Football: 2025 Developmental Player Film ReviewBreaking down the film during non-representative play of Oregon’s depth that may play a role in future seasons. The best athletic programs, in any sport, don’t manage their rosters one year at a time. While the transfer portal is an important tool in roster management in modern college football, many contributing starters spend time on the team developing as young players. In this article, I present my findings from reviewing the garbage time footage of Oregon’s offense this season that features developmental players. These players are usually in their first two years in the program and did not see regular playing time until the outcome of the game has already been decided. Readers should note that the sample of plays for each of these players is relatively small. Further, playcalling by both teams tends to be different to reflect the game effectively being over when these players are on the field. Being good at identifying and paying talent is where it’s at, and apparently we have room for improvement on both of those fronts. Our activity level is starting to get embarrassing imo. Can there be any question now as to the effect transfers (and the amount of $$ it takes to get them) have had on college basketball when the starters for a team that just won the national championship had not one player from their own recruits?

It probably has to do with the amount of $$ generated by football before and after the three broadcast tv channels was replaced by the cable services (primarily ESPN & Fox) that bid university/athletic dept. income into the stratosphere. From that point, it became just a matter of time before those responsible for this jump would demand their rightful share of this new wealth. Cue the lawyers . . .

Northwestern defeated Stanford 3-2 to win the 2025 NCAA Championship. Field Hockey - Northwestern won the NCAA championship.
