In 2022 James was used as a short yardage back while Irving and Whittington shared snaps and Nix actually had the most rushing touchdowns. In 2023 Nix didn't run as much but the combo of Irving and James was pronominal. This last year James was the featured back and without him we didn't have much of a run game. Whittington is at best a change a pace back and the youngsters were still developing. Hoping this year the runningback room and the offensive line reasserts itself. Final note... last season we saw a new Offensive Line Coach in Terry and a new runningback coach in Samples.

Something that was always evident, but has become very pronounced this year is the massive difference in talented and experienced depth between the defensive and offensive lines. We have quite a ways to go in building the same depth on the offensive line that we have on the defensive line. The starting offensive line is very good and talented, but they were spread between the two teams and as always--the Spring Game always highlights that disparity. I think this is the best O line talent since 2019. I'm honestly still not sold on Terry. There is a lot of talent on this offensive line, even outside of the transfers. Just need to get that line in sync which is something that is difficult to do in mixed squads in a spring game.

Man, do I have mixed feelings about Bobo. I think the game has passed him by a little bit, but all the criticism about predictable play-calling stemmed last year from repeated injuries on the offensive side of the ball (particularly on the OL) and perhaps the worst receiver room I can remember throughout the Kirby Smart era. Plus, the best offensive analyst Georgia had who worked well with Bobo, got snatched by Georgia Tech as their OC last year. While Bobo could have done better, he called plays that he thought would work best with whom he had to work, even if they were unimaginative. When Bobo was the offensive analyst at Georgia, he deserved much of the credit for the development of Matt Stafford and that was well known by the Curtis family. This was another big reason that Curtis ultimately picked Georgia. Curtis is the closest prototype to Matt Stafford that Georgia has seen, so voila. I figure this gives Bobo at least two more years to do his development thing so we will all see what happens there.

In anticipation of the House settlement and direct from the school payment to athletes being approved, schools have informed certain athletes, mainly football and men's basketball players, as to the amount they will receive in direct payments. For some reason, NIL collectives, especially in the case of CBB players, upped the NIL bidding for transfer talent for seemingly no reason. $20.5 million in 2025, subject to one of those pesky antitrust suits, is the House settlement direct payment cap, but there is not and cannot be a cap on NIL deals. I imagine direct payment to the player contracts will have an 'exit fee clause' if a player transfers to another school (the Arkansas collective is suing Nico's younger brother, and I think UCLA also, for breach of such a clause), and an assignment of a player's NIL as part of the deal.
