Northwestern Beats Oregon and Stanford On Way to NCAA Golf Title
Jon Joseph replied to HDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thank you, NW, for keeping the title in the B1G Family! Nine national titles for NW Men's golf; first one for the Women. -
Why this format? Why not 16 teams with the Ducks playing the No. 16 seed and assuming a W, the winner of the No. 8 vs. No. 9 game, etc.? Or, how about the top 8 teams go to Omaha and OBD opens against No. 8, and UCLA against No. 7, etc.? Is the stud pitcher for Sparty starting the game vs. OBD? Look at an orange long enough and you can convince yourself it's a grapefruit. Better yet, how about call the whole thing off and prepare to play in the tournament where a trip to Omaha really matters. I don't believe Fox came up with a lot of extra money for the right to broadcast this tournament. Meanwhile, GO DUCKS! And thanks again Charles for the terrific coverage.

I think the rest time is only important for the pitchers, and again, the Sports information director told me that the starters will be resting for seven days regardless. We could put nothing but freshman pitchers out there on Thursday, and lose the game, but we have everybody rested for a normal three day weekend series, so I think we will be OK. We have three catchers, and plenty to sub for infield and outfield that are quality players with little to no dropoff. I think everyone knows me well enough to confirm that if I was really concerned about this now, I would be asserting it strongly as I usually do. We may disagree, and that is fine. I actually think that throwing freshman pictures out there Thursday that haven’t had any action in a month or so besides practice, would be good for them in case we need to turn to them in the playoffs for an inning or two.

Schedule Change for OREGON, and the B1G Baseball Tournament
HDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
While the Ducks have played 3 straight days on weekends, so have their opponents. With time off like Nebraska and Penn State would have, both can rest starters and relievers. But, my real point was the seeming unfairness to higher seeds in the Pods. Just like the CFP. What if No. 1 seed Oregon had Nebraska's schedule (with rest) instead? -
Meh. If I know Coach Waz...he will remind the team that they've been playing three straight games a weekend for a couple of months, with a number of weekends of four straight games. They have their routine, and know how to approach it. Frankly, breaking up the routine might have made it worse? In his interviews he explains that he tells the team..."instead of practice--we get to play BASEBALL!"

Schedule Change for OREGON, and the B1G Baseball Tournament
HDuck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Add another crazy thing about the seeding... Remember, we said since Nebraska played on Tuesday, they will have time off until Friday before facing the Ducks, while the Ducks play on Thursday. Well, for the moment, assume Oregon beats Nebraska and wins Pod A. The Ducks would then play on Saturday after playing on Thursday and Friday. But, if Penn State beats USC on Thursday, they would be the Pod D winner with a day off before facing the Pod A winner on Saturday. So, you could have the No. 1 seed Oregon playing two teams coming off rest on Friday and Saturday while the Ducks would have played 3 consecutive days. -
Another close 3-2 win today for Northwestern over Stanford, just like Tuesday's semi-final with Oregon. Came down to the last pairing. And, the same Northwestern golfer who won it on Tuesday was the closer for Northwestern today. Northwestern was fifth in the Big Ten Tournament when the Oregon women won in April.

USC Demands Major Date Change to Keep Notre Dame Rivalry Alive
HDuck replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
USC is trying to get the ND game scheduled early in the year rather than at the end. I can kinda see their point. IF this is their future: 9 - Big Ten games 1 - SEC opponent in a Big/SEC agreement 1 - Notre Dame 1 - open date SC has never scheduled an FCS opponent, and there will be a portion of their fan base who will want either Cal or Stanford every year on that "open date." That could mean, that other than the annual SEC matchup, the season would be locked in and no other intersectional opponents from the Big12 or ACC would be possible. No Arizona, ASU, Utah, San Diego St, etc if Notre Dame/Cal/Stanford were locked in. I can see their "worry" about renewing a long-term contract with ND until there is clarity on the SEC/Big challenge agreement. -
To answer your question, Mr. Waddler, I believe no, after talking to the Sports information Director for Baseball. They want seven full days of rest for their starters, in particular Grinnell, because he’s going 100 pitches these days. So I don’t think they will save him for Sunday, as I believe they will use him on Friday this week so he is fresh for the regional, as that is first priority. Now, with that being said, they may not play Grinnell, against the number four seed in the regional on Friday, and perhaps save him for Saturday next week? Just another means of entertainment…trying to figure it out!

With Dzierwa going 6 innings, and Broderick 3.1 in Michigan State’s loss to Nebraska, does Wasikowski now strategize the pitching order with an eye towards the championship game by going by committee tomorrow, and then reversing his starting order in order to save Grinsell for a possible show down with UCLA?

USC Demands Major Date Change to Keep Notre Dame Rivalry Alive

As long as ND can get an invite for the "ND is in if ranked at a designated number or higher", regardless of schedule strength, they have no real incentive for changing. -

Like Paige Sinicki said, "There was no doubt we were going to win this game" after Stanford got a grand slam in the 1st inning, then led 7-3. Incredible performance, and it all worked out, they got their Super Regional. -

Jon...your points are more important and valid than what the writer suggested, and yet....I do not think ND will ever join, full-time, a conference. They will continue to play footsie with the ACC because it suits their purposes, IMHO. -
