BIG Floating New Playoff Format for 2027 and Beyond
The B1G has a businessman at the top. This proposal would rain more money down on top-level CFB than any other alternative proposal. What I don't like: 24 instead of 16 teams, although the first round would be playoff play-in games like we see with the First 4 in the CBB tournament, quarterfinal games in bowls, and not on campus, and I would prefer a system with automatic qualifiers up to a point, which would result in better out-of-conference games and the additional money that would come with an SEC/B1G Challenge. I've read three articles to date on why the Bama vs. Ohio State series in 2027-28 should not be canceled because of "The Good of the Game". Hogwash! ADs are paid to look out for the good of their program, and both Bama and Ohio State will have challenging in-conference nine-game schedules. I reiterate, have a system with automatic qualifiers, and quality OOC games will follow. I do like the elimination of conference champ games that are close to meaningless with today's expanded PO. I also think that a move to 16 teams would result in Week 0 becoming Week 1 and bring other positive and necessary changes to the CFB calendar. This proposal could be for leverage only; an attempt at bringing the SEC back to a 16-team AQ format. What effect will the SEC playing nine conference games this season have on Greg Sankey's PO format thinking? I'm rooting for many three or more losses SEC teams. And I hope beyond hope that No. 12 seed Notre Dame knocks No. 11 seed LSU out of the PO.😁

2026 CFB Playoff Information, Predictions, Schedules, Etc.
2026 College Football Odds: Notre Dame, Oregon Best Early Bets to Win CFPI know what you're thinking: Indiana was barely crowned the national champion, and we're already on to the next. That's how it works in betting. If you see a number you like and have the stats and information to back it up, why not go ahead and sprinkle a few bucks on a couple of college football national championship contenders? Whoever had the foresight to wager on the Hoosiers winning it all this time last year is laughing all the way to the bank, which is at least some incentive. To be fair, I don't see another Indiana-type team on the radar making that kind of run, but here's why I don't mind holding tickets for Notre Dame and Oregon for the next 10 months. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/early-college-football-title-picks-2026-27

With the College Football Playoff format remaining at 12 for the 2026 season, the drumbeat of potential CFP change will inevitably echo through the coming season. The document, obtained by ESPN, includes other interesting details, such as the committee being tasked with not having any rematches in the first round. Know Your Opponent (Cignetti)
Good take and spot on. I did not mean to say Cig would win another title this season. I meant to say that he has a coaching staff and a system in place that will keep Indiana in the top 25, at least, while he is in Bloomington. To me, a team in contention for a spot in a 12-team PO field every season equates to success. At some point in the 2025 season, all of the teams you listed were potential playoff teams. Most people would consider the teams to be Blue Bloods. In 2025, all of the teams on the list had Blue Chip rosters. Indiana did not. With free agency and pay-to-play in college football, will we see more Indiana's coming out of nowhere to win it all? I think we're more likely to see teams on your list and other once successful programs at the top before we see another team make a Phoenix-like rise from the ashes of the sport. I also doubt that we will see another CFB hegemony as we recently saw at Alabama under Nick Saban. I sure hope this grey beard gets to see OBD in the champions circle.

Bill Moos Wanted Chip Over Frost
Kind of a random off-season kind of question, did anyone actually ever "catch up" to that Kelly/Helfich offense that spanned 10 seasons? Thoughts? 2007: 38.2 ppg, 467 ypg, 5.9 ypp 2008: 41.9 ppg, 485 ypg, 6.6 ypp 2009: 36.1 ppg, 412 ypg, 6.1 ypp 2010: 47.0 ppg, 531 ypg, 6.7 ypp 2011: 46.1 ppg, 523 ypg, 7.2 ypp 2012: 49.6 ppg, 537 ypg, 6.6 ypp 2013: 45.5 ppg, 565 ypg, 7.5 ypp 2014: 45.4 ppg, 547 ypg, 7.3 ypp 2015: 43.0 ppg, 538 ypg, 7.0 ypp 2016: 35.4 ppg, 492 ypg, 6.6 ypp I mean, maybe there is an argument about 4-8 in 2016; but, before the wheels finally fully came off, Oregon was still averaging 41 ppg and 519 ypg (and had over 400 yards of offense in all 8 games), then finishing 1-3 averaging 25 ppg and 437 ypg. Helfrich certainly had to go; but, I doubt anyone is catching up with Oregon's offense in 2017 either if he did stay. Herbert, Freeman, Brooks-James, Nelson, Pharoah, Mundt. In the 7 regular season games Herbert was healthy, Oregon averaged 52 ppg and 550 ypg in Taggart's new offense, with a healthy Herbert and Helfrich, who knows where the offense might have gone? It still probably gives up about 50 a game though. 🙂 (As late as 2022, Chip still got 39.2 ppg and 503.6 ypg out of DTR, Charbonnet, Bobo, and Kazmeir Allen)

Know Your Opponent (Cignetti)
You are right ... the NIL and the current transfer portal rules change everything. I remember when Cig was hired all my friends and I wanted was consistent winning seasons comparable to Iowa ... now we are not sure we can handle a 3 loss season. Plus with the new hires of HC in the B1G, that conference just got tougher from top to bottom, thus hard to stay on top.
