  2. Holy Buddy Holly! Pat failed to note the new leader in roster payroll expenses resides in ... Lubbock, Texas?🤪 AP NewsTexas Tech hoping big money and top transfers lead to unp...Texas Tech is investing a lot of money into its athletes, and has brought in a lot of football players from the transfer portal.
  3. If you are in Iowa City on November 8th, bring warm clothing. If there, you will see in person the winningest coach in B1G history. Kirk Ferentz is two wins away from passing Woody Hayes. This is Kirk's 27th season at Iowa. Looking at the average per-season win totals, Dan, now in his 4th season, should pass Ferentz before the 2048 season. 😁
  4. With the College Football season just around the corner, Brett Ciancia of Pick Six Previews joins Dirt & Sprague to talk all things CFB with them.
  5. Thank you, Stevan. Malchow was a terrific hire by Dan Lanning. But unlike the situation at SC, he wasn't brought in to rescue recruiting, or fire the HC at Stanford like Andrew Luck, or win a power struggle at Cal, Rivera over Wilcox, with every quality Cal player transferring out. Or to prop up six-time Super Bowl winner and $10 million a year man, Bill Belichick, at UNC. I see many of these GMs being brought in to patch holes that multi-million-dollar coaches can't fix. Recruiting, with the help of heaps of cash, has seemingly been fixed at SC. But the newbies have to be coached up; will this happen in South Central? Unfortunately, Luck isn't suiting up for the Cardinal, and Riveria is also out of eligibility at Cal. I don't expect these two programs to ace the ACC anytime soon. And Tom Brady isn't suiting up at QB at UNC. Without Tom Brady, Bill's Super Bowl record at New England is a likely Zip for Zip. Too many cooks ...?
  6. Nice Man. An example of The Peter Principle. I wish Coach Mark nothing but the best. One of two Oregon coaches who coached in a national championship game and won a Rose Bowl for OBD. Although the Rose Bowl win was 'this close.' Right, Jameis. 😃
  7. I think it would have improved in 2017. I'm sure Hoke would have been fired and Mullens (and Knight) would have had say in the new DC if they opted to keep Helfrich. The reality was that the old guard of the Oregon staff was fast approaching the end of their ability to keep up with all the changes in college football. I had another article almost done on the Taggart year and I have one I started on Cristobal. Those have been interesting to reflect on as well.
  8. I'll be honest... I feel like the retros were a little overused for my liking last year. I know some of the greybeards feel differently and I respect that. I also feel that Oregon's uniforms last year had two sets and they didn't really mix well. We had the modern color palette of Oregon with the black, yellow and white and then the retro green and white. The yellow of the retros is just a very different shade and didn't work with the modern look. Personally I'd like a set of uniforms that could be mixed and matches better with a few strictly one-offs.
  9. "Not exactly unprofessional?" How about Rude, Arrogant, Entitled, and a product of today's (un)Social media and Don't You Dare Tread on My Self-Esteem? As to another's self-esteem? Who cares? Good riddance to this kid and his Old Man, too. SMH. Another example of why I'm happy to be on the back nine. There used to be a thing called manners, civility, and respect for your elders. OK. I hope the waving cane didn't hit you.😒

  11. Mark H was a really good man with a very good offensive mind. He was a victim of circumstances, somewhat beyond his control. I thought his removal was premature, especially with some of the young talent he had amassed..........but it was a matter of "what have you done lately". I was sorry to see him go but the program did improve.....as it might have had Mark stayed as coach.

  14. A lot better than playing Cal or Stanford. Probably a national audience. Against a ranked team. Sellout. I'am jealous.

  19. Former HC Mark Helfrich doesn’t get much love from a great portion of the Oregon fan base. He was the last of the decades-long tradition of continuity at Oregon, and in 2014 he was the man in charge when Oregon reached its peak (though we all hope to see Dan Lanning surpass that mark soon). In 2014 the Ducks won ... https://fishduck.com/2025/07/how-should-duck-fans-remember-mark-helfrich/
  20. That home field looks awesome, with an incredible crowd. It is on my "bucket-list," but I am going to Penn State this year, and Iowa another time. I am sure it will be a great game with good people there...
  21. This is a FUN trip down memory lane of great hits of Our Beloved Ducks!
  22. I have no idea what he is referring to, but there are other rumors that some new unis are going to ruffle feathers--both ways. (The Fuddy-Dud in me groans)
  23. Hey all. I am a regular reader of the OBD forum and occasional poster based in Seattle. I am a proud 1992 grad of UO. But I was also born in Iowa City to parents who are both grads of the University of Iowa. The Hawkeyes are my second favorite college football team. Guess where I will be Nov 8? I will be wearing green, yellow, and white and rooting for the Ducks but if there are other Duck faithful out there in Iowa on Nov 8, I’d love to meet up pre-game.
  24. This former Duck has done pretty well!

  26. After reading this thread I expect us to go 7-5 at best, god OBD are so bad! 😜
  27. I can definitely get behind Ohio State not wanting to play OBD 3 times, they didn't WANT to lose to Michigan, but they were more interested in the end game. OBD would definitely have been better off if they had lost the CCG and traded places in the CFP with PSU. Really can't have a worse shortcoming in a DC than not grasping the concept of shutting down the opposition. can't have talent like Matayo, Bear, Thieneman ...not utilized properly.
