  4. Spot on article. It seems like there will be years when what you have on the roster at QB will be better than what’s out there in the portal market, and I think this was one of those years. We’ve had a history of great and not so great transfers at QB. IMO this is the beauty of the college game, no one knows for sure.
  5. I love it...between mid-February and the end of August...we get HUNDREDS of predictions, or I should say "opinions" about where Our Beloved Ducks end up. I like what he has to say, but damn...I hate this Playoff format, and yeah...we have beaten it to death. This is a very, very good team returning, but like everyone says, it all comes down to QB play. It should NOT come down to that! Why? Because Oregon is one of the few teams in the nation that could bring in an experienced, talented QB as a portal transfer every year as we have done with Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel. In my biased view, we should ALWAYS have an experienced QB every year...always. Why? Because we CAN, and it will make the difference in the high-leverage/profile games. Oregon should not be crossing their fingers that things work out at QB, and yes...I think Moore is talented, and I believe Novosad is talented as well. But they have very little college experience--especially in the big games, and Oregon should not be rolling the dice when a hundred players, a ton of coaches, their families, and staff rely on the success of the football team. And that success can be assured with a talented AND experienced quarterback from the portal.
  6. O'Gara's No. 1 seed? LSU, Florida, Vandy, Oklahoma, Mississippi State? Predicting the 2025 Playoff: No. 2 Oregon - Saturday Down South WWW.SATURDAYDOWNSOUTH.COM Oregon's 2024 Playoff experience ended on the worst possible note, so is redemption in store in 2025? You bet. I'm going with the Bayou Bengals. However, and FWIW, I like those Hairy Dawgs. (The Georgia, not the Mississippi State, breed. ) Will Brian Kelly finally win an opening game? Opening in the 'Other Death Valley' versus Clemson will not be easy. I'll post Saturday Down South's O'Gara's final pick tomorrow. O'Gara believes we will see Playoff seeding matching the rankings in 2025-26. This would mean OBD, with a 1st round bye, playing the winner of No. 11 Louisville at No. 6 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Hmmmm.
  7. Bo and Justin's QB Rankings. (From one source.) Where Bo Nix, Justin Herbert rank amongst top QBs in NFL this year DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Pro Football Focus ranked all 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL and Bo Nix and Justin Herbert both received interesting placements.
  8. Oregon and Oregon State could be on a collision course to play for a trip to the College World Series in Omaha
  9. Part of the reason why the West Coast schools dominated in the Olympic sports is due to the academic prominence of the California schools. A lot of the athletes that compete in these sports know they don't have the ability to make a lot of money off their sport, so they go to school with the intention of actually trying to get the best education. It's just a fact that a lot of these athletes focus on academics more, a large part because they are dominated by those who come from higher socioeconomic backgrounds. It costs a lot of money to get a private tennis coach! I would argue the entire west coast has better weather than the rest of the country.
  10. If the projections of Oregon as the #8 seed in the NCAA tournament are accurate, then any loss in the B1G tournament might have them slip out of hosting a super regional. Win them all, I say. I agree with the consensus here at OBDF. Pitch the younger arms against MSU and use Grinsell in the must win against Nebraska Friday.
  11. Your bad? No way. I had inside information. Wally Godwin, RIP, was my ex-wife's uncle. A terrific guy. A legend in college golf circles.
  12. To people under the age of 30 Notre Dame isn't special. They have cool uniforms, a cool stadium and a cool fight song. The "Here Come The Irish" song is awesome, and Rudy is a great movie and real life story. But outside of all that stuff it's just another big name program. The fact that they are given a seat at the CFP negotiating table should make people question why. If the B1G and SEC froze them out would it damage the playoffs? I'm not for the whole NFL style taking hold, but if it did the one positive might be freezing out Notre Dame and forcing them to make a choice. They've played the system great and I commend them for that. But it's time to stop letting them play everyone for fools.
  13. How it happened Oregon Ducks golf falls short of championship in semifinals loss to Northwestern DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM The Oregon Ducks golf team fell to the Northwestern Wildcats in the matchplay semifinals on Tuesday night.
  14. No better example of this than last year's Indiana, a media dream. Out of nowhere, new coach, appealing, somehow. But don't bother to look at the SoS. Just because Finebaum pointed it out doesn't mean it wasn't true.
  15. Bo Nix doing what he always does - leading his receivers and quarterbacks! Bo Nix Plans Exclusive Retreat, Vacation For Denver Broncos' Quarterbacks, Receivers WWW.SI.COM Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix is entering his second season in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. Broncos rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant was on the Up a
  16. The more I think about it, we need to win Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and we effectively have enough pitchers for three days. So the fourth game, Michigan State,, is a throwaway. Pitch the freshman and those who have very little experience and give them battle pressure for the future.
  17. This is one of the few advantage of being the #1 seed, I guess, is knowing what you have to do to win and being able to get some backup pitches some tournament experience while starters get some extra days of rest going into the post season.
  18. Oregon is a power in track and field. UCLA has an awesome swimming and volleyball program. Since moving out West I've discovered the passion for football isn't as rabid, but the depth of the athletic programs out here is second to none. I know what water polo is now. The B1G traditionalist probably has no idea what Olympic sports means as far as it goes with collegiate athletes. I really didn't as I primarily care about football and occasionally basketball if the Gators have a great squad. In the SEC many fans do care about swimming, volleyball, softball and baseball along with track and field. But I personally really only pay attention to those things during the Olympics.
  19. Good gosh…the Michigan State game is truly a throwaway. The result does not matter, so yes, hold Grinsell for Friday. Start freshmen against Michigan State, and no valued relievers?
  20. A month ago, Oregon won the Big Ten Tournament and Northwestern was fifth. The Ducks best golfer Kiara Romero struggled a bit in this tournament. Not sure why. She was Big Ten golfer of the year, and low medalist in that tournament. But, she did not have her "A game" this weekend.
  21. You are correct. If the three teams in the pod are tied 1-1, the highest seed advances. Pool A 4:00 pm PT – Tues – Nebraska beat Michigan St (5-4) 4:00 pm – Thurs – Oregon vs Michigan St 4:00 pm – Fri – Oregon vs Nebraska Noon – Sat - Pool A winner vs Pool D winner The Ducks must now definitely beat Nebraska, otherwise the Huskers become 2-0. Theoretically, the Ducks could use their No. 2 pitcher vs Michigan State, and hold their No. 1 pitcher for Nebraska. Especially since the Nebraska pitching staff will have an almost 72 hour rest. But, using No. 1 on Friday means he isn't available at Noon on Saturday. This scheduling seems almost as screwed up as the CFP approach of having 1-4 seeds with the worst opportunity??
  22. So if I understand it, and that’s not certain… Regardless of our game with Michigan State, the game with Nebraska decides who goes to the semifinals? Because even if we lost to Michigan State, but beat Nebraska, we would be tied with the cornhuskers, and the Spartans, but would advance as the higher seed. Although… If if we beat the Spartans, and lose to Nebraska and we are tied again with the cornhuskers and would advance automatically? I have not got the rules of all this down yet!
  23. Michigan State is leading 4-3 over Nebraska, it's the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, runner on 2nd, Nebraska hitter sends a lazy fly ball to left field, Spartan LF has it, then it pops out of his glove, player on 2nd scores, ties it, 4-4. In the bottom of the 10th, Michigan State infield in a shift, but Nebraska's leadoff hitter somehow gets the ball to roll past the 4, 5 & 6 into the OF, two straight strike outs, but the next gets a single, Nebraska scores and wins, 5-4.
  24. The invitational golf match Stanford hosts every year is named The Wally Godwin Invitational. Wally was the coach at Northwestern before he took the job at Stanford. Luke Donald, European Ryder Cup Captain in 2023 and will be the Captain again in 2025, played for Wally at Northwestern. US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick is also a Northwestern graduate. Northwestern Men's team has won the B1G Men's Golf Championship nine times, including the 2024 championship. Stanford won a national championship under Wally. On that team was the Oregon golf coach Casey Martin, Notah Begay, and some guy named Tiger Woods.
  25. The star pitcher for Michigan State, and the B1G Pitcher of the Year, Joseph Dzierwa, started against Nebraska and went deep into the game. He left after 105 pitches, so he won't be pitching against Oregon on Thursday. MSU was up 4-3 a few minutes ago...
  26. Ducks lost to Northwestern 3-2... Northwestern and Golf? Congrats to them, and good for the B1G...
