Oregon Football: Projected Win Total in 2026
11-1, perhaps. But playing 8 straight games against Big Ten opposition and a double west to east yo-yo in November gives me pause. On November 7th in Columbus, I expect a 9 AM body clock time kick off. And Ohio State has many talented players on the O-side of the ball back. The weather in East Lansing, Michigan, on November 21st could be a great equalizer. OBD returns from Michigan State to play a UW team coming off a game in Seattle vs. Indiana. UW could be coming to Autzen with a victory over Cig and the Hoosiers and a chance for a spot in the playoff field. Indiana will not be an easy out, but the game is being played in the Pacific time zone, not the Eastern time zone. A plus for UW. Will the SC D step up under Gary Patterson? The offense will score points behind the now-experienced QB Maiava. I think the Week 4 game at SC is a defining moment for SC football under Lincoln Riley, and the Trojans and their fans will be geeked for this game. If you asked Trojan fans if they'd rather beat Oregon in Week 4 or Ohio State in Week 9, I think the majority would take a win over the Ducks, not the Bucks. SC has the easier early schedule. Three G6 opponents at home without one of the G6 teams being as dangerous as Boise State. SC does have to travel to Rutgers the week before the Oregon game, but I'll take that game over having to play at Oklahoma State in Week 2 with the Cowboys bringing a new HC, a QB, Drew Mestemaker, who led the nation in passing last season, and an improved roster including the Mestermaker's top receivers and running backs, and three players who started in front of Mestemaker on the North Texas O-line. After last season's pounding, OK State fans will be out to pluck Duck feathers, in a stadium that is loud with the crowd right on top of the visiting team's bench. Oregon also gets another short end of the scheduling stick, having to play Nebraska in Eugene before traveling to play Illinois in Week 9, with the Illini off the week before Oregon's visit. The Oregon O-line had lapses last season, but it was a Joe Moore Award finalist. Will three new starters on the O-line come through? Will the new OC and DC pan out? Will Dante be better prepared to play under physical and mental pressure? In this NIL era, the roster depth, even on Blue Chip Roster teams like OBD, will be tested by the worst part of the game, injuries. Of course, I hope you are correct in your 11-1 or better call, but there are too many questions IMO to bet the Over 10.5. Many of the 2026-27 playoff contenders have easier schedules than Oregon, and the schedule is harder next season. Gulp. Thanks for the article, and Go Ducks!

I'm not sure how they could have used him more while also distributing the ball to other playmakers. He did a ton of blocking which is using him as well. But if you add touches to one player who do you take them away from?

It's a B1G Final 4 -
When I completed my bracket prior to the tournament tipoff, I had both Michigan and UConn progressing to the final four and Michigan winning it all. After watching the offensive machine of the Arizona Wildcats, I am not so confident about Michigan winning, but the Wolverines are a very solid team . I kinda lean toward Illinois falling to the tournament tested coach Dan Hurley who seems to always find a way to win big games. However I admit that Illinois is much better than I have given them credit for. And I have to admit that I turned away from the Duke-UConn game and was shocked several hours later to learn that UConn ended up winning that puppy.

Whoa! A Duck Got the Big-10 Pitcher of the Week!
Miles Gosztola is another example of a pitcher, (transfer this time) who started out very hit-and-miss this season, but given enough playing time--built his confidence to come back, and deliver a superb performance. It is hard to have good mid-week pitchers available, as you need them to win the weekend series. And I assume that since he was not used this last weekend...that he will be the starter against Portland Tuesday night at 5:00 PM PST on B1G+.

Whoa! A Duck Got the Big-10 Pitcher of the Week!
OREGON ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2026 BASEBALL | @OregonBaseball Gosztola earns B1G weekly honor EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon left-handed pitcher Miles Gosztola is the Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Week after an outstanding performance in a 6-0 nonconference win at UC San Diego, the conference announced on Monday. Gosztola took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, before finally surrendering a single just out of the reach of second baseman Ryan Cooney with two outs in the inning. He retired the next hitter to finish his day allowing just two runners to reach base. The Ducks’ lefty was in command from the outset retiring the first 15 batters he faced before finally issuing a walk to lead off the bottom of the sixth. He got the next batter to fly out to Brooks in center field before getting a ground-ball double play to end the inning. Gosztola faced 22 batters throwing first-pitch strikes to 17 of them on the way to finishing the game with eight strikeouts. For the most part, those Isla Vista match-ups were fun mound duels to watch. Really enjoyed them. I’m far from being any kind of pitching expert, but watching their motion and mph, the Gaucho hurlers seemed to have a lot wider curve, and speeds more often in the 70’s and 80’s, where as our guys regularly pushed into the 90’s which accounts for not having near the hook of their pitchers. Got me wondering if that has more to do with pitching coaches or player ability, or both. Either way, both clubs have top drawer pitching coaches and staffs. Exciting stuff, and one of the things that makes the game great.

FYI - from a Jon Wilner Hotline ($ Wall) article. Before yesterday's loss by Duke, No. 1 seeds in the Tournament were 134-0 when leading by 15 points or more at the half. Duke's loss to UConn joins last season's late meltdown versus Houston, and the Blue Devils' fans would like to see Coach K retire from retirement and back on the Duke bench. UConn coach Dan Hurley is 10-0 Against the Spread in Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final 4 games. Again, I caution against recency bias; the SEC dominated last season's tournament. But in this season's tournament, the Big Ten went 5-0 against the SEC. "It Just Means More B1G Wins?" 😁😁😁😁😁

Oregon Moves Up to No. 15 in the Nation with Interesting D1Baseball Comments...
Thank you, Vince Scul, er, Charles, for the great B1G baseball coverage of OBD and other Big Ten and Pacific time zone programs. The notes on Oregon's pitching prowess brought me back to Vin Scully's call of Don Larsen's perfect game in 1956 - "Got him! The greatest game ever pitched ... A no-hitter, a perfect game, in the World Series." 1956 was the last time the Brooklyn Dodgers played in a World Series. In 1958, the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA, and the New York Giants moved to San Francisco. St. Louis was no longer Major League Baseball's western-most team. The iconic Scully called the Dodgers games for 67 years, 1950 - 2016. He was also at the mike for Hank Aaron's 715th home run in 1974, and a lame in both legs, Kirk Gibson's pinch-hit, walk-off home run against Oakland A's closer Dennis Eckersley to win a 1988 World Series game in extra innings. In 1956, I listened to Scully calling Larsen's perfect game on my transistor radio. I was fortunate enough to watch Hank Aaron's record-breaking home run and Michigan State man Gibson's game-deciding home run. Charles, you have decades left to cover your beloved Ducks!

Oregon Moves Up to No. 15 in the Nation with Interesting D1Baseball Comments...
There are five baseball polls, but the one I focus on is D1Baseball for consistency. We finished No. 12 in the nation in their polls--three years ago and two years ago. We were on that path last year until the pitcher meltdown in our hosted NCAA Regionals. Thus we were not ranked preseason this year, and not for nearly a month into the season, but Coach Waz and Oregon baseball is known, and if you keep winning--the rankings will follow. After at No. 23, then No. 20, and then No. 19....we are now at No. 15 in the nation. Below is us and our major interests and conference competitors: No. 1 UCLA 12-0 (B1G) and 25-2 No. 9 Beavis 21-5 No. 12 USC 10-2, 26-3 No. 15 Oregon 7-2, 23-5 No. 19 Nebraska 8-1, 22-6 And we play all of them above to sort out the conference, and improve our RPI. (We play Nebraska and USC at PK Park) There was an interesting article about Oregon vs. USCB by D1Baseball writer Eric Sorenson, and he clearly liked both teams, but was impressed by the improvement in Oregon pitching. We are not there yet, but we have had big steps forward by many of our relievers. Coach Waz stated in an interview recently that many of our relievers are nails in practice scrimmages, but need experience in games to make it happen there. Thus why four of our five losses were due to pitching, but he explained that "you have to play them to get experience and get over that hump." You can see how many relievers have grown, and given the Ducks clutch performances that have resulted in more wins for Oregon. Now with that--everybody has a bad day, and we have even seen that from our starters on occasion, just as we have observed it from our opponents. Back to the D1Baseball article--Sorenson writes... Coach Waz is one of the more unique head coaches in our sport because he is the only one who will ask me, “What did you think of us this weekend?” Yes, he actually asked me that, both this weekend and the weekend of the Vegas Tournament. This time I told him, “You guys proved you could win some games against a really good opponent without having to rely on the home run or big multi-base hits.” In Vegas they bashed the ball around a lot, gaining a few two-run and three-run yard calls to win games. Here in Santa Barbara they relied on their pitching and defense to win games. Oh sure, Angel Laya got his fencebuster today, but it’s not like the Ducks based their entire hopes of winning on the long ball. “The inexperience thing was real,” coach Wasikowski said about their earlier struggles this season on the mound. “Now, as you see these guys starting to get more experience, you’re seeing them settle down and the game has become manageable. I see them growing and developing every day and that’s a credit to Matt Florer and Dan Straily for working with those guys on a daily basis.” Tanner Bradley has emerged to be a top reliever.
