Oregon Football: Early 2026 Ranking Projections
Good article. First, I don't buy into the hype about Arch Manning. He is a guy who "needs to get it going" his entire college career. At some point, that is who he is - a player trying to find a rhythm, getting there briefly, and then doing a whole lot of trying to get back there again. Second, what matters is talent of the field, not talent that already went to the NFL. (Indiana, Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St) Third, this is the interesting one. Sometimes players improve with another year of playing and sometimes they kind of stay of the same, and once in a while, they slip a little. Dante Moore: He already has the perfect arm, so I can't see any improvement there. I do expect improvement in how he reacts to pressure since that is really the only part of his game that he needs to work on. Matayo U: He seemed to have moved down a notch last year from his first year. As his body grows and matures, I think he will go up a couple of notches and turn it on this season. The skills players on O and D should be some of the best in the country. Are the linebackers going to improve as a group? They should be more athletic and the subs who have been hanging around should be ready to contribute, but this is a question mark. I feel the same way about the edge players. The D line: Key subs have left via the portal. Seems like the Ducks have traded backups for backups thru the portal and went down a little talent wise. Can the newer players step in and bring some juice? Again, a question mark. The O line: A whole bunch who have been patiently developing in the system. Will they be any good? Another question mark. Overall, the Ducks have some great position groups and some not too sure - only time will position groups. It really come down to the O line and the linebackers playing up the standards of the rest of the team. There is no big bunch of experienced transfers to save them. We will see how well the staff can develop these players and get them ready for the big time. I would expect to see some "growing pains" from time to time, but then for them to form into solid units by November. At least, that is the hope.

Bill Moos Wanted Chip Over Frost
Scott Frost…Mr. It is tough to recruit to Oregon guy. A little late in the game to be lamenting over decisions made years ago. I think i would ride off into the sunset, and leave the luggage behind. Otherwise might as well call out who forced your hand, and really muddy Nebraska waters.

Interesting to see that both Oregon and Indiana each have 6 returning starting players on defense and offense.

Massive Loss: Let's Remember 30Duck, an OBD Member and a Great Duck-Buddy
One of the core and founding members of the Our Beloved Ducks forum was 30Duck, who up to about eight months ago--posted many times each day. He could not continue due to a variety of issues surrounding health and home-tech issues, but I spoke to him on the phone a couple of times a week. He was a passionate Oregon fan, and we had such fun discussing the current team, and so many teams of the past. 30Duck died recently at only age 66, and I can still hardly believe it. It was very sudden, thus why I sense it was probably related to his heart challenges over the years. He would call in his weekly score prediction to be listed among them all, although I had not heard much from him as the season wound down. There are a couple of items that are notable about him, and I wanted to share with you... 30Duck was a big fan of music in the 70s and 80s, and he would post a music video by Olivia Newton-John on a regular basis. We would laugh about changing the words in one of her songs to..."Hopelessly Devoted to....DUCKS." He would post many songs of that era during the off-season (like now) to lift the mood, and give us something to discuss and be entertained with. You may recall how he was a big fan of the US Navy, as he served for many years on the USS Nimitz Aircraft Carrier, and he had some dandy stories about all the people and experiences over the long time that he served. And boy...did he ever see the world with the way those carrier groups moved about after they left port. He had an impact with his own contributions to the forum, as it was he who began the term, "PREVENT-OFFENSE" to describe the drudging Cristobal time in Eugene. It was so accurate, and so perfect a moniker. He is also the one who came up with the unique slogan for this message board, as he was the first to call it the, "Forum-with-Decorum." So true, and he epitomized that label. In the beginning of the forum...we all were learning how to gradually pull our fangs/claws in, as we realized that we did not need to personally attack each other to make our points. It was he who put many of the ideas in my head about how to focus on hearing all opinions, and not allowing the venomous bluster that occurs on other boards. More than once in those early days--he would get viciously attacked, and I would deal with it in the background. But in public--he was all-class, and I admired him for handling those situations so well. As someone who has lost-his-head a few times--his example was just what I needed to model my forum conduct after, and hence the rules were shaped by his input. One of those rules concerned how we never discuss politics, and his internal strength was a great demonstration for all of us. I have lost many friends over just being politically different, as I did not want to press anything with them, but some could not endure the thought of the forum operated by someone so politically different. 30Duck and I were on opposite ends of the political spectrum--and once we realized that, we agreed to never discuss politics again. He taught me that the friendship was more important... Why was he called 30Duck? Because he loved Ronnie Lee back in his days at Oregon, and you can see in the photo above the number that Ronnie Lee wore. He found that cool picture of Lee laying the ball up over the late Bill Walton, and that photo was his avatar. He knew the teams of old so well, and I so enjoyed hearing the stories about Mac Court back-in-the-day from him. He was one of those who camped out at night for a student ticket prior to a big game, and no surprise. He was a great Oregon fan! The Duck-Angels wept as they lifted 30Duck from the earth, and took him to his final destination. They are not the only ones, as I loved and I miss this wonderful Duck-Buddy. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Bill Moos Wanted Chip Over Frost
This is why I appreciate Uncle Phil. It feels like he's consulted for his opinion on certain things but his word is definitely not the end all and he trusts the people in the AD office to do their jobs. I wouldn't want to work in a program where donors have the kind of out-sized influence where they can overrule the athletic director.

FishDuck Foaming Over Upside of 2026 Diamond Ducks
Boy....I guess Waz is not as exceptional in bringing in so many pitchers as I thought by comparison. What I thought was a high number is actually over the average, but not by much. Thanks for the research, and bringing that to us! We'll see Collin Clarke this weekend!

Oregon Football: Early 2026 Ranking Projections
We are ranked high enough. We'll have to see how our offensive line is same as every year, and see if there are any freshman surprises like last year to help us along. I think the 2025 season was peak depth for this team. It's all downhill from here as the expanding playoff and NIL continue to redistribute talent to a broader number of teams. So injuries will have greater impact to our team as well.
