  12. The B1G Ten tournament, featuring 12 teams, will have a new look this spring. The first three days of the tournament will feature a double-elimination brackets, pairing eight teams seeded 5-12. Four games will be held on Tuesday May 19th and Wednesday May 20th and two games on Thursday May 21st to produce four qualifiers. The four advancing teams will face seeds 1-4 in a single elimination quarterfinals on Friday May 22nd. Semi-finals take place on Saturday May 23rd, followed by the championship game On Sunday, May 24th. All 17 tournament games will be carried live on the B1G Ten network. The Nebraska Cornhuskers have captured the last two titles. The games will be played at Charles Schwab field in Omaha, Nebraska. Our Ducks are currently in 4th place. With home games against Penn St. and USC, road games against Washington and UCLA, they face a challenge, especially against the Trojans and Bruins. It's imperative that they finish in the top four. Schools that finish between the 5 and 12 seeds simply won't have enough pitching to win the tournament. The Bruins will probably win it, but a runner-up for 2nd place would be quite the accomplishment for Oregon.
  13. The D1Baseball poll came out for this week, and Oregon remains ranked and poised to move higher with more wins. No. 1 UCLA 36-3 No. 6 Beavis 30-8 (Who we play in Corvallis on Wednesday night at 5:35) No. 19 Oregon 28-11 No. 20 Nebraska 31-9 No. 23 USC 30-11 The Big-10 rankings are in great flux, although UCLA has run away with it, and everyone else is playing for second, or simply good NCAA seeding later. Gotta win games! Oregon averages 7.8 runs per game, and give us good relief pitching....?
  14. The rule change to punt formations was merely a footnote. Now, it’s a full-blown controversy. After the NCAA’s Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee on March 19 adopted what the special teams community has called a “drastic rule change,” the measure that restricts player movement for “two adjacent linemen on either side of the snapper” faced objections from coaches. However, those objections didn't stop the NCAA football rules subcommittee from upholding the change in a call held Thursday, April 9, a person with knowledge of the vote told USA TODAY Sports. “We didn’t have a chance for answers,” a current Power conference special teams coordinator from a College Football Playoff participant told USA TODAY Sports. “Some people basically were already done with spring football when this was passed. “I can’t do it or teach it in the summer, because that’s cheating and then I’d get fired.” https://trojanswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2026/04/09/why-ncaa-new-punt-rule-change-has-college-football-coaches-fuming-special-teams/89525109007/

  19. Incredible post, Jon. You make a powerful case, and I agree with you in that it would increase the interest in regular season games, because more teams have a shot at making the field. Teams that stumble, and have one bad game still have a chance to make the Playoffs. More money, more opportunities for teams to make the Playoffs, more exposure for all, and more great, compelling games. Greg Sankey?

  21. Great presentation Jon. We need you to help Sankey and Petiti get their heads out of the sand. Come together and stop worrying about looking weak in a standoff. We'd have to move up the playoff, and that would likely mean CCG and the Army-Navy game weekends would have to change. Joel Klatt spoke about moving Army-Navy to open every season. Purists wouldn't love that. We'd also need some more info on who from the G6 should get the nod. But as Notre Dame proved two years ago, and Miami last year. Anybody can get hot and make a run, given the chance. Of course those were two loss teams, but who's to say Texas couldn't have gotten hot with Arch finally starting to put it together. Iowa would've been a tough out imo. Look at what they did vs Indiana and Oregon, plus the beat down they put on Vanderbilt.
