In four starts during the week, the redshirt freshman slashed .471/.471/1.176 with a 1.647 OPS, while going 8-for-15 at the plate with six extra-base hits (3 HR, 3 2B), six RBI and five runs scored. In a midweek start at Portland, Lauaki homered and had two doubles while going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. In the Nebraska series, he slashed .385/.385/.923 with two home runs, a double, five RBI and three runs scored. In a 7-6 win on Friday, Lauaki drove in a pair of runs with a two-out double in the fourth inning to give Oregon a 2-1 lead. On Saturday, the Ducks' DH belted a pair of home runs while also delivering a run-scoring single before finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. In Sunday's series-clinching win he added a hit and run scored. Lauaki is the fourth Oregon player to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in the Ducks’ two seasons in the conference. Angel Laya earned the honor twice earlier this season, while Burke-Lee Mabeus claimed the honor last season. I am okay sticking with Altman. He deserves another year IMO. My concern is that for every guy you get that makes the jump from G6 to Power 5 like Simpkins did, there is a whole list that do not. Recently for Oregon that list includes RaHeim Moss, Jesse Zarzuela, Amauri Hardy, Aaron Estrada, etc. There are some big time players in the portal, but Oregon is not in the discussion for them right now. I guess that is disappointing.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Stefini Ma'ake's fifth inning grand slam sparked No. 15 Oregon to an 8-2 win over Maryland Sunday at Maryland Softball Stadium. The Ducks swept the Terrapins and have won eight in a row with No. 22 Washington visiting Eugene next weekend for a series between two of the top four teams in the Big Ten. Sunday, Oregon scored a run in the first inning and that's how it stayed until Ma'ake's homer. After Maryland scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut Oregon's lead to 5-2, Emma Cox made it a six-run game with a three-run home run in the top of the sixth. That was more than enough for starter Lyndsey Grein, who struck out 10 in improving to 21-4 on the season. For the weekend, Grein was 3-0 with 25 strikeouts and allowed two runs in 16 innings. "(Grein) was smiling the whole game, and I think she kept her composure well and she kept it simple and I think she just flat out competed today and wanted to sweep," said Ma'ake. How It Happened: In the first inning, Oregon (32-9, 13-2) did what it does better than anyone else in the county – bring a run home on a sacrifice fly. After Maryland walked the bases loaded, Emma Cox lifted a fly ball to left field that scored Elon Butler from third and the Ducks led 1-0 after a half inning. Grein kept the Terrapins (14-26, 1-17) off the scoreboard by striking out nine batters in the first four innings. The Terrapins had two runners aboard in the bottom of the first, but she struck out three hitters to leave them stranded. Grein then struck out the side in order in the bottom of the second, getting swings-and-misses on all three third strikes. Grein added three more punchouts in the bottom the fourth inning. Ma'ake opened the game up with her grand slam in the top of the fifth. Oregon loaded the bases on singles by Amari Harper, Ayanna Shaw and Taryn Ho. Ma'ake then launched an 0-1 pitch high over the wall in left field. It was her fifth home run of the season. "Honestly, I was just trying to see the ball," said Ma'ake, who had two hits on Sunday. "I haven't been able to see it all weekend, so I think it's just putting a good swing on a good pitch that I saw up. And so I think just doing that for the team just broke things open." The Terrapins scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth, cutting Oregon's lead to 5-2. Those were the only two runs allowed by Grein all weekend. In the top of the sixth, Cox stretched the Duck's lead to six with her fifth home run of the year. After Butler and Harper walked, Cox hit a laser out of the park to left center field, giving Oregon an 8-2 lead. "I definitely got jammed a little bit my first time, so I was like, OK, just get my foot down and let's get the barrel out," said Cox, who was 2-for3 with four RBI. "I was happy that not even that it went out, but that I was just able to execute the adjustments there." Grein retired the last six Maryland batters of the game to close out the win for the Ducks. In 2025, Michigan signed a half-decent player out of G6 UAB. Dana had success at a mid-major program. Perhaps he wants guys who appreciate a shot to play in the Power 4 and will play well together? What did Kentucky get for $22M? Every concern outlined is certainly justified and may come to fruition, but IMO, a guy with one losing season deserves the chance to do it his way. As Dana noted, based on their failure to perform up to expectations in 2025, many of the players who portaled out were going to be offered less money in 2026. Dusty May brought in team-oriented guys and coached them up. I'm hoping Dana can do the same. Although I don't think we'll see what Michigan accomplished in 2025.

EUGENE, Ore. — A record-breaking day from a freshman kept Oregon in the game early, and a shutdown bullpen sealed it for the Ducks late. Angel Laya homered twice to break the UO single-season record by a freshman, and the Oregon bullpen threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings as the No. 21 Ducks won the rubber match of a series with No. 19 Nebraska on Sunday at PK Park, 5-4. Laya hit a two-run shot that gave the Ducks (26-10, 10-5 Big Ten) an early lead in the second, tying teammate Maddox Molony’s two-year-old record for homers by a UO freshman with 10. Laya broke the record with a solo shot that sparked a three-run rally in the sixth, bringing Oregon back from a 4-2 deficit. “It feels good,” Laya said. “(But) it wasn't a goal of mine at all; I came into the season just trying to help the team win and make it to Omaha.” Wins like Sunday’s can help fuel those aspirations. The Ducks won the rubber match against a conference rival and fellow top-25 team, bouncing back from defeat to build some momentum before a match-up with rival Oregon State on Tuesday and then a weekend road trip to Illinois. “It definitely feels good — pops us up going into this midweek and for the next weekend,” said Tanner Bradley (3-0), who got seven outs in middle relief to start the shutout effort by the UO bullpen. “But we also like to keep it flat-line, not get too high, not get too low.” Miles Gosztola took the ball from Bradley and pitched a scoreless seventh inning, keeping his cool despite tempers flaring after a hard slide at second by the Huskers on one of Oregon’s season-high three double plays.
