I wanted to say incredible, except that conveys a sense of surprise and disbelief, and what the Oregon softball team is in 2025 is completely real.

So many stars, my game ball today though goes to Oregon SS, Maddox Molony 3-3 1R, 2 RBI, 3-3 stolen bases and as usual, great fielding.

Ducks finish fourth, but another former Pac-12 team wins it in UCLA!

Oregon Wins 3-2 over Oregon State for the first sweep of a top three team EVER in program history! Seth Mattox came out to the hill for the Ducks, and gave up a double on the first batter, and then Santiago Garcia came in and put Beavis away. The last batter was a very dramatic strike-out, and the crowd went nuts. What a win! More coming!

Staci Chambers delivering under pressure bodes well for the team as it moves towards trophy time. Filling a role that’s been reserved for Grein and Sokolsky could offer the two starters some relief when things start to heat up. The slow but steady growth of her program is well displayed by how Lombardi is now beginning to attract and develop good transfers pitchers into some of the best in college softball. Finding that culture identity fit with Oregon like she had at Oklahoma (where for 21 years she was in charge of pitcher development) hopefully will translate into top drawer recruits taking a closer look.

3-2 Ducks after eight innings, as Umlandt gave up a homer to Beavis, and Cole Stokes blew his 97 mph stuff for Oregon to close the side. Ducks strand two on base at the end of the eighth....we need three more outs!

My next day thoughts. The passing offense will be ridiculous. Moga as a periodic wildcat could be lethal. By the fall, the D should be Lanning’s best. 54 yard field goals? Yes please! Many Ducklings look impact ready right now. PS I will never get tired of seeing Rich Brooks being honored on his own damn field!

3-1 Ducks after six innings, as The Pride of Sherwood Oregon, Ian Umlandt, kept Beavis scoreless in the inning, while the Pride of Springfield, Maddox Molony, crushed a pitch to Oregon State bullpen to add another score! Think the Civil War games mean something to in-state players?

2-1 Ducks after five innings, as Oregon's Jason Reitz put down the Oregon State batters 1-2-3. Ducks could not produce any runs this inning, and I see that Ian Umlandt, The Pride of Sherwood Oregon, is coming out to pitch the sixth. This in-state player that would love to spoil things for Beavis.

2-1 Ducks after four innings, as Reitz put Beavis down easily, and the Oregon bats got going! First we have Jacob Walsh evening up the score in a way that only HE can... When it is evident we have a tight game, Coach Waz is able to switch to Small-Ball to score. Drew Smith draws a walk, and then Anson Aroz bunt-sacrificed to move him to second. Then Smith steals third, and Maddox Molony hits him in! Great Baseball!

9-7 win on Sunday. Travel to Notre Dame on Monday, then head home to host Michigan State for last series before Big Ten Tournament. Ducks currently lead the B1G: 17-2 - Oregon 14-3 - UCLA 13-5 - Northwestern, Nebraska, Ohio State UCLA has two games at Michigan remaining this weekend. Then, back to L.A. to face Northwestern. 1-0 Oregon State after three innings. Oregon's pitcher Jason Reitz came back and was superb,as he dispatched the OSU batters easily. However Our Beloved Ducks can barely put a bat on the opposing pitcher, as he's really good today...

PODCAST: Oregon Football Spring Game Reaction Football was back in the air in Eugene on Saturday as Dan Lanning and Oregon Football held their annual spring game at Autzen Stadium. The Fighting Ducks defeated the Combat Ducks 24-20 in what was a back-and-forth game that was largely highlighted by a strong defensive performance. On the latest episode of the Ducks Dish Podcast, ScoopDuck’s Max Torres and Justin Hopkins dive into their analysis from the spring game and what’s in store for Oregon in the 2025 season. Many of Oregon’s young stars stepped up and made big plays. 5-star true freshman wide receiver Dakorien Moore got fans excited after he connected with Austin Novosad on a deep ball. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Dillon Gresham may have been the break out star of the day with his three-catch, 96-yard performance. Redshirt freshman Luke Moga had himself a nice day and showed that he’s a true dual-threat quarterback capable of making plays with his arm and his legs. Young defensive backs like Na’eem Offord, Trey McNutt, Aaron Flowers and Ify Obidegwu all made plays at various times as Chris Hampton and Rashad Wadood look for their next stars in the secondary this season. Kenyon Sadiq did what he does and put on a show en route to over 100 receiving yards, which of course included a hurdle play. Blake Purchase, Elijah Rushing and Matayo Uiagalelei also had strong days in what should be another elite defensive front for Oregon in 2025. Lanning also doubled down on his confidence in Oregon’s linebacker group, emphasizing that the team won’t look for reinforcements in the transfer portal at that position.

Gage Hurych ups the game in place kicking competition, punting a spring game flop Redshirt freshman place kicker Gage Hurych connected on two long field goals. The team's punting was not up to par though. According to special teams coordinator Joe Lorig, senior place kicker Atticus Sappington aims to handle all of Oregon's field goals this fall. If Saturday's spring game is any indication, he's got some serious competition. Redshirt freshman Gage Hurych wasn't a factor in last season's place kicking rotation, but makes from 47 and 54 yards on Saturday indicate he might be Sappington's top rival this year. "There's a competition in every position," Oregon coach Dan Lanning said after Saturday's spring game. "Atticus has been really good for us and done a good job, but Gage is a guy that we are really excited for in the future. He's done a really good job. Seeing there weren't any follow up threads on the game and the news cycle is going to be on idle, I figured I ought to start a follow-up thread. My thoughts: QB is the most important position to pay attention to, and it seemed there was zero separation from all 5 that played. I mean you could make an argument Brock Thomas played the best, as he seemed the most efficient with the ball which is Lannings #1 measure of QB success and rightly so. It was fun to watch Akili out there. He reminds you that you can't teach height, and he has a very natural feeling for the 11 on 11 game. If he can tighten up his throw and learn some patience he could be special. Novasad processed the game better than most with one glaring exception that he seems blind to second level pressure screaming in from any direction. He feels the DL pressure and sees his wide receivers, but he could have been knocked out of the game on a few plays if it was a real game. Moga is more than serviceable. If Moore or Novasad hits the portal in the Fall I won't be worried about our backup. His biggest issue is simply the height. Lastly Moore has the best arm, and seems motivated to play well. But I think he is not that great at keeping the chains moving. It everything else that you need to do to make the most of every down, and I'm not sure he has it. If you make him scramble he won't get a completion. His pocket presence is still several notches down from DG and not in the same universe as Bo Nix. This is going to have to be a totally different offense. Stein's going to have to earn his money, in selecting the right starter and tailoring the offense to cover their weaknesses, and maximize the efficiency of the offense. Even though it was just a spring game I still felt like I was seeing more effective and intentional route trees, creating space for receivers to work, or overloading an area of the field to get someone uncovered. This was one of my hopes from our new WR coach is helping Stein in this area. We'll see. A follow on to that is Kenyon Sadiq. Rather than trying to get him the ball on trick plays and TE reverses, just send him down field and clear out his area. Seems to work much better. Benson looked like dud which is apparently what he was at his previous stop. Impressive sized guy with athleticism, but not really able to do much with it. Kasper is still dropping key passes, but at least he is catching it sometimes. Gresham had a good game, but not enough in general to judge him or the rest of the WR room to determine separation. If nothing else we could rotate our significant depth so these guys can go at 100% every snap like a timed 40 yard dash. OL will be better this year, could be the best since 2019 unless Alique Terry screws them up. World, Pregnon, Ilipani, Bedford and the next best guy that can play right Tackle should be a special group. Need to bring in a center from the portal though. Ilipani has no backup. I'm still not crazy about our run blocking. Both screen and player decisions seems like it's always a struggle to block beyond the DL. RBs are another level group. Hughes was just okay. Watching his tape at UNC seemed the same. Nothing super standout other than the blocking he was running with. He didn't shine any better than Harris or the other big guy freshman. Hill has some burst, which is nice to see, and I'm starting to be a believer in Limar. Riigs certainly did do anything today that would push him up the depth chart over Limar. Wittington is back but will the OL and the scheme create the creases he needs to work his magic at the second level? Our front seven will be the best group in the country in 2026, and more than formidable this year. Everyone on the DL and LB crew was impressive. Lanning is right, we don't need a LB from the portal. Flowers continues to be the spring game master. I wonder if he's one of those guys that can find that extra gear in the game, but doesn't show out much in practice limiting his playing time. It's a shame if that is happening. My advice to any coach is "whenever a player steps into the game and tells you who they are, good or bad, you need to listen and forget about how they practice. Coverage by the secondary was consistently tight and contesting catches. We should be able to rotate dudes and keep the them fresh. Lastly, too much slipping on the field for Nike U. Almost like the tread is too narrow for sharp cuts players felt they were capable of making. Nike needs to fix that. All in all, tremendous depth, my concern is us being limited to merely a great team, without the extra magic needed to make a deep playoff run.

Agree about Moore, caveat being the secondary and pass rushers played really well. Makes me feel very confident about those position groups. For me, I mostly judge a QB by his decision making and how well he runs the offense. Moore's decisions were good I thought, but IMHO Novosad looked like he had better command of the offense. Damn Moore's got a cannon though.
