WR Trebor Pena transferring from Syracuse to Penn State will help the Nits at a position of need. Pena was 2nd team All-ACC last season. 84 catches, 941 yards, 9 TDs. Penn State's $2 million portal pickup gives them a 'real case' to open as top team in nation WWW.SPORTINGNEWS.COM Penn State just added to an impressive portal class with Trebor Pena, giving them a huge chance to start as the No. 1 team in the country. Like Michigan in 2023 and Ohio State in 2024, PSU has opened its NIL wallet to keep quality draft-eligible players on board and pick up players from the portal to fill positions of need. And picking up DC Jim Knowles also took opening up the wallet. OBD plays two Blue Chip Roster teams in 2025, USC in Eugene and PSU on the road. https://247sports.com/article/oregon-ducks-football-trip-to-penn-state-football-season-defining-espn-245899164/ GO DUCKS!

I think the 4-4-2-2-1-1 format would be great if it were accompanied with a conference post season pitting 1 vs 8 2 vs 7 etc with the winners of those match ups moving on to the playoffs. That way 8th place teams in the power 2 conferences still have a path to the playoffs as would 4th place teams in the B12 and ACC. That would also mean even lower ranked teams would be in contention for that final spot late into the season. This would provide that March Madness type magic that keeps basketball riveting without expanding the playoffs that much. If a 5-8 ranked team in a conference can't win a road game to make the playoffs, then they wouldn't deserve to be in the playoffs anyway. If they can't get that win on their home field, then that higher seeded team showed that they didn't really deserve that spot as well. This system seems perfect to me and I really hope it happens at some point. As for conference champions, that could be declared after the highest seeded team in the conference playoffs wins. If one loses to eight and two loses to seven but three defeats six, then that's the conference champ for that year. This seems like the best path forward to me both in entertainment value (highest viewing ratings possible) as well as for fairness to all the teams in the conferences. This format could help keep conferences from getting too top heavy (same 2-3 teams at the top every year) and let even average teams feel as though they still have a shot.

Three predictions: Osborne’s choice, Brown’s ranking, Oregon’s QB pursuit Oregon will get either Jared Curtis or Ryder Lyons Jared Curtis | Rivals.com N.RIVALS.COM Jared Curtis - 2026 5 Star Quarterback for Nashville Christian School (Nashville, TN) on Rivals.com Ryder Lyons | Rivals.com N.RIVALS.COM Ryder Lyons - 2026 5 Star Quarterback for Folsom (Folsom, CA) on Rivals.com It feels like a fait accompli that Oregon will land a five-star quarterback in this recruiting class; we just don’t know which one yet. Five-star Jared Curtis from Nashville (Tenn.) Christian announces his commitment on May 5 and he’s down to Georgia and Oregon. Curtis has gone silent and hasn’t given many hints on whether the Bulldogs or Ducks will win out, although the feeling is the Bulldogs might have the slightest edge. If Curtis goes to Georgia, then Oregon makes an even bigger move on Ryder Lyons, who is considered basically a 2027 recruit because he’s taking a one-year LDS mission. But the Ducks, Michigan and BYU are three frontrunners for the Folsom, Calif., quarterback and one could surmise that they shoot up even higher if Curtis goes to Athens. Lyons has a phenomenal relationship with offensive coordinator Will Stein, he fits that offensive style well and Oregon will make him an even bigger priority if it loses out on Curtis. It seems unfathomable that Oregon would lose out on both. Either Curtis or Lyons will be headed to Eugene. It's not a B1G championship, but the acrobatic tumbling team just won a national championship this past weekend. Gotta count for something.
