Man that would be a blow to their egos. Would they go independent? Try to join the WAC? I've heard rumors that the AAC kicked the tires on them, but the two big timed themselves out of any future talks with the then commissioner Arresco. The AAC doesn't have the money to afford big name brands like Oregon State and Washington State. The two "big time brands" are only considering the Big 12 and a PAC reformation with SDSU, Fresno State, Boise State, Nevada, Rice, USF, Memphis, and a hodge podge of numerous G5 names. But they don't want to use any of the money they got from their settlement with the treacherous ten to help make the move possible.

Truthfully all they have is the sympathy card. But the MWC sees the writing on the wall. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. A reformed PAC with Oregon State and Washington State as your alphas isn't a P5 league. Keep the branding, but if I opened up a store with dime store waffles and bought the SEARS branding rights to use for my company, it's still a dime store waffle company.

While I'm certain you're referencing the travel aspect because New Jersey is across the country anyhow. I think Florida State losing today will turn out to be a shocking result as the season progresses. I don't see Oregon losing any road games this year, but I could see them losing to a team like Rutgers if it was played in Europe. Traveling the Continental US is different than flying to another country across the pond. It's not just the miles or time zones. Oregon has guys from all over the country. Not too many Irish guys. For 18 to 20 year olds it's a big difference.

The Green Dream Team!!!

Anybody going to watch Florida State vs Georgia Tech at 9AM today? They'll be playing in Ireland to kick off week zero. Would any of you be interested in going to a game across the pond for a Ducks game? Starting the year off with an in conference game instead of Portland State. I'm not so certain I would, not because visiting Ireland is terrible. But rather the odd things that could happen with having the team tripping up against a team like Northwestern or Rutgers because of the long travel. Northwestern won one game in 2022, that win came against Nebraska in Ireland during week zero.

The Big 12 will never be the B1G or SEC in money, prestige, big name programs, or media rights value. But with UCONN they could conceivably have the best basketball league hands down. Beavis doesn't have anything that anybody covets. People only bring them and Washington State up because they've been a member of the second oldest and once second most prestigious leagues in the country. But 108 years of being at the bottom doesn't really carry much weight. For some reason this concept escapes the media when they ask why the Big 12 doesn't want them. They think that they are the ultimate victims of this conference cannibalism.
-
So far the B1G has the Michigan State game at 6 pm. The away game at Purdue at 5 pm which is 8 pm their time, so it looks like they are trying to put these games on at reasonable times or maybe we're getting preferential treatment because of the hype. The game against Idaho is 4:30, while the Beavis game is 12:30.

Look at how many top 5 QBs the Bears and Jets have had since 2015. Look at the 2021 draft compared to a year before. 2020 wasn't nearly as hyped as 2021. Yet three QBs have signed record deals from 2020, yet only one in 2021. My guess is this recent class looks more like 2018 than 2021. But it wouldn't shock me if only one of the guys drafted this past year makes it past his rookie deal. The factors involved can't be isolated or predicted. Otherwise all these draft gurus would be successful GMs. A guy like Justin Herbert has succeeded and failed because he's very boom or bust, much like Mahomes was coming out of Texas Tech. The difference is Mahomes sat for a year behind a quality NFL guy that made smart decisions, and had Andy Reid as a coach. Herbert was thrust into action in that odd 2020 season, he has had coaches with questionable pedigrees. Burrow, Tua, Herbert, Lawrence, Allen, Jackson and Murray have all had success because of surrounding talent, great physical skills, or great coaching and being able to read defenses or just break plays open because they are physical freaks. Mariota was mobile but not Jackson level. He has a decent arm but not like Allen,Herbert, Lawrence or Murray. He could make a few reads but not like Burrow . He doesn't have the release Burrow does either. He is comparable to Tua in a lot of respects, but doesn't have that leadership or surrounding talent that Tua does.

Stewart Mandel NOT Sold on Ducks...

But the PAC lives on, they had a media day and everything. Forget the fact that there's only two teams. The B1G hasn't had ten members for thirty years now. Most of us knows what happens when you give a mouse a cookie. -
" We are....uhh located in......uhh ....Los Angeles.... Along with uhhhhhh...... USC. Yeah uhhh ...yeah.." Anything else Coach Foster? " A Bruin is a Bear!!!" Deshaun Foster in his head " Nailed it!!!"

Nobody thinks the Big 12 is on par with the B1G or SEC. It never has been, it was some mutated form of the SWC and Big 8 when it was formed. So yeah it's not even at that level anymore after losing it's two anchors. But it's still a P4 league, it's more stable than the ACC. Sure they have no huge brands, but if you don't have the credentials to get into the B1G or SEC, the Big 12 is the best fallback. -

Mandel is the same guy who predicted the Big 12 would be gone by 2024. He mocked fans from Texas Tech for thinking they could believe the PAC would ever accept them. I get the feeling that his brother Howie might know more about CFB than Stewie. You can take Stewie, Cowherd, Rob Parker, Skip Bayless, Steven A Smith, and Finebaum and throw all their "analysis" in the garbage disposal. Rotten apples are worth more. -
I actually just referenced Drew Brees before I read your response. I said Drew Brees should be the benchmark for guys under 6 foot. Russell Wilson had more natural talent, but his play style has caught up to him. I don't buy the story of him not caring anymore.
-
For some reason I always thought Kurt Warner was at least 6'2. As for Russell Wilson, I think he has a stronger arm and is more mobile than Gabriel. Drew Brees is the benchmark for guys under 6 feet. He maintained a high level of play up till he was almost 40. Russell has gone downhill before he reached 35. All those hits have come back to bite him. Still a Hall of Famer though.

Dillon Gabriel is what we would call a journeyman if this was the NFL. He's on his third college program. My guess is he isn't the NFL prospect Nix was, mainly due to his size. But my guess is he's made some money the last two years. If he leads Oregon where we think he should, he'll get drafted. Probably not in the top 15, but he could easily be a second rounder imo.

Chris Weinke won a Heisman at almost 30! He won a National Title that year as well. Michael Penix and Bo Nix went from castoffs to first round picks. I chuckled when I was watching a game featuring the Dallas Cowboys in one of Tony Romo's last games. The announcer asked why Dallas just didn't put the backup in. See what the kid could do. That backup was Brandon Weeden. Tony Romo is currently 44 years old. Any guess as to how old that kid Brandon Weeden is? He's...... 40.

The Ohio State football team's revenge against their toughest Big Ten foe SCARLETANDGAME.COM The Ohio State football team is looking for revenge against the toughest team they'll face this season. -
I agree with you my friend. I got what you were saying. USC wanted to be the good guy by pretending they were team players. Texas didn't care if anybody saw them as the villain. But both exited messes they helped create by negotiating like thieves in the night. The fact that the Big 12 survived and the PAC didn't is the biggest reason I say the PAC has the worst leadership by far of any conference. The deal that the PAC turned down by ESPN was taken by the Big 12. Yet Oregon is seen as the traitors.
-
Texas did the same with the Big 12. Except USC says they were too generous because they allowed the PAC to evenly distribute money to programs like Washington State and Oregon. Texas forced everyone in the Big 12 to accept the Longhorn Network which caused Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, and Missouri to look for new homes. If there is any program that has done less with more than Texas, I can't name them. USC was the lynchpin of the PAC. But I think most of the failure falls upon the "leadership" of Larry Scott. Ole George became the steward of a decrepit boat, he helped poke a few holes to finish it. But to me Larry Scott and the school presidents that looked down at Oklahoma because of their academics or cow patty locale deserve much of the blame. The B1G and SEC have thrived because they don't allow anybody to be bigger than the conference. South Carolina doesn't have less say than Florida or Georgia. Iowa doesn't get less consideration than Michigan or Ohio State. But the conference commissioners realize that those programs will defer as long as they are adequately fed. Big dogs gotta eat and there is plenty there, even if the little Chihuahua gets just as much. The B1G Network was launched in 2007. From day one it was better than the Longhorn Network or PAC 12 Network. One reason was because you could find it on just about any cable or satellite plan. Two is because it wasn't the Buckeye or Wolverine Network. Texas and USC failed their respective conferences in different ways. One was the ultimate power player that cared only about them self. The guy who took fifty shots a game, not even looking to pass to an open teammate . Then being oblivious as to why his team lost by fifty. Couldn't be his fault, now he needs to find a better team. The other was the grumbling "hero" who allowed the coach to mismanage the roster by allowing everybody to have a say, even when it was detrimental to the team. Then they just abandoned the team for a better ran one in the middle of the night. Essentially ensuring it's demise.

Last year it was all those transfer guys and the returning Heisman QB. This year it's a new coach and a QB that is some kind of savant that will utilize the entire Lincoln Riley repotoire of plays. Since 2007 USC has been one of the most underachieving programs in all of CFB. They didn't make one BCS Title Game( remember that game was first implemented for the 2006 season). They didn't make one four team playoffs. They've swiped two coaches from P4 big name programs, yet done zip. Oregon meanwhile has been targeted three times since 2007 to go under. Chip Kelly going to the Eagles. Mr. Seminole leaving after one year, and Super Mario going cross country to be the latest guy to bring back the "U". Maybe it's something in the water? Let's come back to this topic in November.
