THE FRONT RUNNER: The Life of Steve Prefontaine.
He came to talk to my class at Pleasant Hill. He didn't have much to say, but then we went up to the track and ran a lap, and no he wasn't the nice guest. He won. Pre.

Oh yes, "Do you believe in miracles" Just have a skills competition, throwing the ball through a tire would be must-see!

Fraudulent Power Index Reveals ESPN's Fair and Balanced Approach to CFB
Did I just get really old? It used to be that I actually paid attention to the "Way Too Early" rankings, and it's still silly to even consider rankings before Week 6 and now? What good does, did, being No.1 all season mean anyway? Recruiting rankings at best are just counting up stars. Hurry up, Aug.30!

McElroy: Oregon is a Top 10 Defense Entering 2025
Great to see OBD on the list. But the defense is full of new players, who could be great, tOSU has 3 starters on defense returning and a new DC, how is their evaluation valid. Isn't this just a list of the teams that have contended for the Natty for years now? Of the 22 starters last season, ASU is expected to have 18 back, including both coordinators, I predict they'll be top 10 on defense, close on offense, but no Skattebo.

WOW! No. 1 TE Reportedly Set to Earn Around $10 Million After Committing to USC?
It absolutely does. In the NFL a good rookie QB is a great asset for a team because they don't get a big paycheck, $50 M, until his 4 year rookie deal expires, allowing the team to build around him with the salary cap.

So, We're all Waiting for FOOTBALL, but There is Other Stuff to Discuss
For instance, generally we think of a rhino as definitely being a creature we wouldn't want to encounter, and a hippo as being a much better alternative, but it seems that's wrong! Hippo's have got great PR from "Fantasia" And a Rhino looks like this But it turns out that about the last place you want to be is between a Hippo and their watering hole. So, anybody else have a thought, a topic, that has been burning a hole in your synaptic process?

Could Oregon Be Seeing TWO Steps Ahead in Recruiting?
Very true, and given the nature of recruiting, committing, transferring, it makes perfect sense that our "Rival" to the south is the shiny object now. I don't like them getting a star out of Mater Dei. but if he's still there for the '28 season, I'll be surprised.

Baseball Season Comments & Stunning Playoff Results
The expression goes, "Leave them wanting more." That was certainly true with our Diamond Ducks. We saw they can clearly compete in the B1G. So now we just have to slog through football and basketball seasons again!

Oregon Softball Ready for that Next Step
No Paige Sinicki, no Kai or Kedre Luschar. Patmon will be gone. But yet, there's a lot to look forward to. Grein is a fighter, so is Sokolski. The Ump for the game against Oklahoma had at best, an interesting strike zone. Oregon got off to a lead, a home run, the 42 times that happened before, the Ducks won. Unfortunately, Oklahoma is undefeated when they hit 3 home runs. It was a tough loss, but the Ducks never gave up. One of my lasting images of Oregon sports is Kai Luschar on deck, hoping that Katie Flannery could get on base, give her one more chance, and if she got on her sister was at bat... Melyssa Lombardi started at Oregon with the program in shambles, tryouts were needed to fill out the roster her first season, and now the Ducks made it to Oklahoma City. Some great talent has left. but I don't doubt for a minute that Lombardi will have a championship level team next season. Rock The Jane!

Could Oregon Be Seeing TWO Steps Ahead in Recruiting?
Great take here already. Since Carroll, USC has been struggling. They thought Riley was the answer, but then find themselves stuck with him because they couldn't afford to fire him and hire a new coach. So now they throw a lot of $$ at kids. The symbiotic relationship of kid and school is dissolving, the NIL is lot more important to the player, and his family, than the name on the front of the jersey

Flag Football in The Olympics? Seriously?
Who knew, back in the 5th grade, before the first class. me and my buddies were prepping for a Gold Medal. Currently it's part of what the NFL came up with to replace the Pro Bowl. It will be part of the 2026 Olympics. This makes more sense.

WCWS: Oklahoma beats Oregon 4-1
Definitely going to miss Sinicki, the Luschar sisters, Dezianna Patmon, but a lot to look forward too from the Softball team, The Jane will be rockin' again!!!

WOW! No. 1 TE Reportedly Set to Earn Around $10 Million After Committing to USC?
This is too good to be true. Since PC, USC is all about noise, as noted college football fan, William Shakespeare put it, all this recruiting hoopla is "sound and fury signifying nothing" If you can't beat 'em...

Portal Killed the Recruiting Star
"Commitment" is a word that hasn't met anything in sports for a long time, along with loyalty. It started with the coaches of course, one day they're in a living room, telling the prospect and his family how great it will be to coach his son at... and then a week later the coach is somewhere else. Even back in the day, and still now, player's "flip". A flip won't really happen now because a player will only be at a team as long as he wants. In the NFL, players renegotiate contracts all the time. In college, we've seen NIL deals being tossed up. If the NIL ever does get managed. The renegotiation, like in the NFL. will become normal in college.

WCWS: Oklahoma beats Oregon 4-1
Well, the Lady Ducks finished 42-1 when they hit a home run, they got this one early, but that was it. Oklahoma hit 3.

WCWS: Oklahoma beats Oregon 4-1
Oklahoma Coach Gasso: "If it isn't us, I want it to be them" I'm sure Lombardi feels the same way.
-
Portal Killed the Recruiting Star
No. Back in the good ol' days, even being No.1 in recruiting on June 1 didn't mean a thing. Now being No.1 on National Signing Day is better than nothing. USC is on top now, check back in December.

Portal Killed the Recruiting Star
Absolutely. Saban knew when to get out.
