  1. Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result each time is the definition of something wrong. Another year of under preforming top talent and one has to point to the coaching staff and ask some tough questions. We have all had our speculation as to what/who is the problem and I wish it was more clear as to what specific it is with this coaching staff but over the last 4 years their has been only one common component. Talking to the coaching staff has not seemed to reveal much of the internal workings. For example: exactly who is calling the play to run up the middle on 4th and 1 over and over, never seems to get revealed. Hints, yes, but no one is standing up and taking responsibility. Having everything gel properly in a football program is the responsibility of all the coaches, but in the end only one is held accountable. The problem Oregon has is, we do have good talent, we do have a good OC and we do have a good DC, so why doesn't the program succeed to a much higher degree than it is ?? On paper it should, but in reality not so much.
  2. Maybe it shows that Avalos just isn't ready for the top job, yet. I'm sure the loss in the bowl game didn't help his chances. Nice to hear he'll be staying.
  3. A tough game for the Oregon women coming up, but it's good its here early in the season so any flaws can be worked on for the seasons end. The UCLA loss was more of a big issue then a loss here to Stanford would be.
  4. Brings back so many good memories. Oregon, controlling the Pac-12 football and also showing up to play at the pro level in basketball. Nice
  5. Can't imagine why they would want to play in Santa Cruz, Ca. Where the "yellow banana slug" is the local college mascot.
  6. I would have to say Justin Herbert will easily surpass what MM has done in the NFL if the Chargers can find the right head coach for the franchise and get a few more good defense players that can help support the team. . Justin is an easily "rookie of the year" for his first year in play.
  7. Place your comments to the daily article here in this topic. You will find a link to the article here 2021 should tell us much more in regards to the direction of Oregon football under MC.
  8. The daily article on FishDuck can be found here. I’m not so sure Verdell will declare for the NFL Draft given that he’ll be leaving on a downward slant. Losing game time like he did for what ever reason will not help his draft status and he also might see it that way and surprise us by returning for one more year. Dollars in turn should get equal time in 2021 to Dye and Habibi-Likio, he’s that good. I think the surprise for us Duck fan’s will be which QB transfers out before the 2021 season starts. Robby Ashford and/or Bradley Yaffe and/or Cale Millen.
  9. From The Mercury News: The UCLA basketball team traveled to Oregon two weeks ago, only to have its date with the Ducks called off because of COVID-19 issues with the officials. At that point, athletic director Martin Jarmond did something unusual: He asked the conference to reimburse the Bruins for their travel expenses. Makes sense, right? The conference is in charge of the officiating program and has established the testing plan for each crew. The postponement had zero to do with the Bruins or Ducks. The Pac-12 doesn’t have a policy when it comes to the conference office picking up the tab for a game not played — until this fall, games were never not played. But in football and now basketball, we have seen cancellations at the last minute, we’ve seen road games added to schedules, and we’ve seen teams uprooted for weeks at a time. The Hotline doesn’t know exactly how much UCLA spent for its flight, lodging, food and transportation, but a typical basketball trip likely would be in the $75,000 to $100,000 range. The Pac-12 should make this happen, not only for the Bruins but for all the teams in all sports that spend money on travel, only to have the game postponed or canceled.
  10. Add your comments to the daily article here in this topic. A link to the article is here. Coach Boles you mention that ".....Coach Andy Avalos most likely moving on ......" meaning he hasn't accepted the job yet. With luck he'll stay because this program offers him the opportunity to progress and later take a HC at a better school. Good to see we have some good choices.
  11. A very enjoyable analysis Ryan, I thank you for the detail of it. "The offense is lost", yep thats for sure "The defense is too complicated", not good, not good at all. You pointed out some good details and I don't know the answers to the questions it brings up in my mind, but I do have one observation of my own that I want to add to yours. My observation of this game is simple and boils down to one question that I have: Why did the Cyclones "Big Guys" seem to be much bigger than our "Big Guy's" ?? Oregon got push up and down the field like a rag doll being run over by a bronco bull.
  12. Well that didn't work out so well. I guess Ryan will just have to not go to that press box anymore. Great photo
  13. Interesting thoughts Sherman. You may be right in that Cristobal has no system that we are aware of. Don't forget MC coached in Alabama for awhile and I'm sure he learned how they do things as well as developing his own system. Also you don't win two Pac-12 championships in a row without some sort of system in play and to my knowledge MC hasn't broadcast that system to anyone I know. Chip did have his fast pace practice in play at Oregon and that worked out for him. Not so much at UCLA. Personally I like the high speed practice, as like you say it slow the real game down for the players. I also don't think very many HC's have the same "system", always some differences. Asking Cristobal to use Chip/Helfrich's system would not work because it wouldn't fit, like putting a Chevrolet engine in a Ford car, it just doesn't fit.
  14. Helfrich had a completely different HC to work for back then, won't work with Cristobal, as we saw when Helfrich went pro.
  15. In the USC game the D got better as the game went on. Hopefully they will do the same here.
  16. I kind of feel Clemson showed up for the game, its just they didn't have what Ohio State has. Which beg's the question: "Does anyone think we could have beaten Ohio State this year if we had played them like we we're sapose to ??" Ohio State 64, Oregon 0
  17. Add your comments for the daily article in this topic. Washington had the opportunity to prevent Oregon from taking the Pac-12 North - - but they didn’t take it. They just couldn’t control themselves. The Clemson’s and Alabama’s don’t seem to have a problem with “not showing up for a game”, why is that ?? As much as coach Mario Cristobal talks about being a dominant physical team, I can’t say I've see the Ducks play that way, Is Oregon going to “out=tough” or “out-smart the Cyclones ?? That depends on who’s in charge of the offense: Mario Cristobal or Joe Moorhead ?? Will Oregon be allowed to score enough points to win ?? No, its not in Mario Cristobal’s nature to “dominate” like that. Mario is more of the “if you get a 1 point lead then you sit on it” type of guy. He just doesn’t want to play for a full 60 minutes.
  18. David Marsh makes a good comment here saying "A very very long ways off from seeing this status quo break up". So true and my question is "will the Pac-12 even be around when that time comes" ??
