Baylor Ahead of Ducks in Coaches Poll
David Marsh replied to Log Haulin's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We are in the top 25 and that's important. It doesn't matter where we are right now only where we end. We are still early in the season so most of these placements are meaningless. I think Georgia is accurate at number 1 and that's about it. Many teams in the top 25 belong on the list but there are still loads of pretenders. We don't get am accurate list (or anything remotely accurate) until around week 5 or 6. Just win and we'll land where we should. -
Cristobal is a good coach... But good I'd relative. He will recruit well and get his teams to bowl games. But he will not bring any team to the promised land of the playoff without some major changes. Thankful for him stocking the cupboards with talent and thankful he left. But it is amusing watching Miami fans squirm.

Did You Hear All the SLAPS Out There After the Game?
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm not saying it is desirable... Though if we do then we have had a very good season. It would be really tough to end the season with another butt kicking though. -
On the field yes... But we will see how it fares on the recruiting side of things. The transfer portal can help but that's never a guarantee. MSU didn't get the boost from the transfer portal that they did from the previous year. The Spartans looked awful.

I haven't watched the replay yet but I get the feeling that a lot of runs are also going away from Sewell's side of the field. It's kind of what happened to KT last year too... Take a player out of the game by running away from them. This happens with lots of CBs all the time too where some teams don't throw at them so they dotb record any stats. I did see Sewell get stuck on a few offensive line blocks. I feel the next big step for thos front seven will be getting through that offensive line and recording some sacks. The other problem is that a lot of teams intentionally get the ball out quick to avoid pass rush problems. So it all comes back to the secondary. The secondary needs to be more consistent and give those pass rushers more time.

1-2 years... Like all of his coordinators. I think it might be only for this season if Gattis wants a head coaching job I'm sure he can land one at the end of this season. Miami under Cristobal will win enough games to help his coordinators' resumes.

And I'm glad I'm not forced to watch it anymore. How about Lanning and Dillingham calling a few QB sneaks and then switching it up to a run at to get some nice 3rd and 4th down conversations. Oh I'm so glad the Cristobal years are behind us now.

Look at the bright side everyone. The Huskies may have won but their final score does not look as impressive as Oregon's win.

Just saw a 2nd and the 30... And they dumpt it off for a short gain. This is playing to not lose... Which will probably result in actually losing!

Just watching Mario be Mario. Lots of runs that go right up the gut with a pile of dust and in to the teeth of Texas A&M. Van Dyke being mostly wasted as a quarterback throwing screen passes and more passes laterally than vertically. Also just saw him throw to a receiver for a two yard gain when they needed much much more than two yards on their down. The kicking game looks pretty underwhelming too. Makes me feel good about where we are with Lanning right now.

I feel this is one of the first games in a long time where we saw our talent advantage really take hold of the game. I don't count FCS teams and I don't count games against the likes of Ohio State where they actually have more talent than us. Today our Oregon Ducks played to their talent level and not down to the talent level fo BYU.

On the year! All the times the quarterback has gone down it has been outside of the pocket.

LaDuke made some plays early on and I heard his name. Haven't heard Sewell too often. Granted BYU really focused on trying to attack the edges. Sewell anchors the middle more and I get the feeling a lot of teams are trying to run away from Sewell. The secondary had some good moments but was inconsistent over the course of the entire game. The center of the Oregon defense has been getting good push for the past few weeks, even against Georgia the center of their offensive line was pushed backwards. The next step for the front seven is getting pressure on the quarterback himself and getting him on the ground. That will take the secondary holding their coverage longer and more consistently. -
I did already commit to rooting for Washington once this year... Against any LA team (I believe they are playing UCLA this year). And that feels bad enough. But it would help elevate Oregon and the PAC if the conference racks up some good non conference wins. We did our part by beating BYU today.

Lanning is learning but I think he has a real vision for this Oregon team. This team is improving scary fast.
-
Really bad. At this point I guess I want Washington to be ranked so we can crush their dreams in Autzen. They haven't played in Autzen since 2018 ... And we crushed their dreams that year too.

Crap. And I'm NOT Doing Analyses on Offense!
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think the pass was actually to Seven. Irving came back and recovered the ball. That play was executed very poorly and probably should have been drawn up as a forward pass so at worst it would be incomplete. -
The Huskies are beating Michigan State right now which raises the question to root for or against Washington... A Washington win would be a good boost for the conference over the B1G ... But it's Washington... And it feels dirty to root for them. So I'm just hoping the stadium catches fire and everyone loses.

Secondary still has a long way to go on the whole. But that secondary has made some serious improvements over the course of the last few games. -

Everyone is still judging Oregon on that week one game. It was a very bad get for Oregon. But this team is far more than that. If Oregon were to play Georgia next week it would still be a loss but Oregon would look a whole lot better. Who knows ... There is the possibility we play Georgia again this year. -

The pistol is fine.. as long as Cristobal isn't using it. I think you said it yourself at one point Charles that Oregon of the Kelly/Helfrich era used it from time to time along with Clemson and even Bama. It's not an every down formation but it has its uses , its a sometimes formation. I did like the use of the I-formation. I also loved those two gutsy 4th-and-1 calls from Lanning and I LOVED how in both of those calls BYU assumed QB sneak but they did a handoff to a runningback instead and it completely fooled BYU. It's going to make future QB sneaks all the more effective if the defense isn't sure what Oregon might do from that formation on a short yardage play. And all those scores under 2 mins... oh this is a fun Oregon team again. -

I feel those struggles emerged more when they were burning the clock down. That does disrupt the normal tempo. It should be corrected. I don't think it is a chronic problem though.. -

I feel it should be. I also feel Lanning may have learned a lesson here as well. BYU wasn't quite out of it when TT came in. It was a bit early to put the back up in. Make sure the opponent is dead and buried before the starters come out. -

It also feels like BYU is getting tired and Oregon is just going at them and challenging them.
