  1. The more I hear about DeRuyter the more I think he might need some training from Cristobal in terms of becoming an ace recruiter but he has the personality for it. He also has the exact personally that fits with the culture that Cristobal is promoting.
  2. People get wrapped up by the stars... More stars and more recruits with lots of stars. It's winning the the recruitment battle. More stars mean better recruits and that's what most fans just get stuck reading. I completely get there is a ton of nuance in evaluation... I do wish there were variations in the rankings but stuck with an arbitrary star system for now. I follow recruiting but I'm not a die hard... I could name some of the headliners but I couldn't name the entire class. I really appreciate your analysis Chico because it.is fun and readable. I usually skip over the scout recruit analysis because they all sound the same.
  3. In truth I'm not sure... I think he is at the very least careful and deliberate as to where he wants to go and wants to do his due-diligence. If he was really after the drama he would be making more news on a regular basis. Pretty much all the news are the musing of fans and rumors.
  4. Isn't Kenjon Barner with Tampa Bay? I though he was going to do some kick return stuff or is he on their inactive roster?
  5. Jimmy doesn't want to hangout with Willie anymore? I doubt Leavitt would have worked well at Washington anyways... Lake seems to want a level of defensive control that wouldn't gel with Leavitt anyways.
  6. This is a great demonstration of how a top tier talent can really do whatever they want with their recruitment while other recruits are finding the early signing period a blessing as they can sign and lock down their college early. Just an interesting observation ... or not...
  7. Kinda sounds like we need another Troy Dye type player...
  8. It is SUPER complicated with that rule... basically the only "free" scholarships this year are bonus year seniors (4-5 year seniors + covid year). Everyone else is given an extra year of eligibility but for the purposes of scholarship count THIS YEAR they are part of the 85. Though I am with you... I really really don't want to be in charge of organizing all of this.
  9. Also DE Isaac Townsend is in the transfer portal as well... Article by Duck Territory 247
  10. Harsh reality of it all as well is that this is a good thing... more room for transfers.
  11. It's certainly not bad news... his scholarship doesn't count against Oregon at this point. There are promising youngsters behind him that might beat him out but at the same time he provides an added level of depth for the offensive line.
  12. Oregon has really plundered WSU when Leach was there... David Yost (2016) Joe Salave'a (2017) Jim Mastro (2018) Ken Wilson (2019)
  13. I really hope Cardwell will see the field though he might get stuck behind some veterans at runningback and allow him to develop some more. He might come out late in the season and take over but probably not so much early in the season. Franklin I think will be similar to Cardwell as he is going to have to beat out some vets to get on the field. Though I think Franklin will absolutely do so and get more playing time as the year goes on. How fast he picks up the offense and is able to make an impact will depend on whether he lights it up or not. As for Thompson... if he wins the quarterback job he will absolutely light it up...
  14. I think USC is in play for one 4-star at this point... Raejon Davis .... I mean they are making a "run" at JTT but that doesn't seem to be going anywhere in all honesty. Outside of Davis I think USC is done with this year.
  15. Happle has an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID year... Plague Shirt? ... so he doesn't hurt our scholarship roster at all in that regard. He will fight for playing time and I do think he will get SOME... but I think the other safeties on the roster will push him out over the course of the year. I don't think it is a good or bad thing... I think it would be deeply troubling for Oregon is Happle was a starting safety as that would signal a lack of development at the safety position.
  16. I remember the announces at football games saying 2-Star Scoob all the time... it was infuriating when Oregon lost to Zona. Also... Anu Solomon was pretty good and was a four star... though due to some medical things he fell off the radar after 2014.
  17. Yes, this shorter method is great... but Coach Boles has always left me wanting MORE!
  18. I don't see MC hiring an unproven coordinator at this time... maybe in the future... but championship aspirations require proven coaching, especially at the coordinator positions the risk to too great.
  19. It would appear there is a coaching exchange going on between Oregon and Cal. Oregon took DeRuyter and now Cal is looking to add Heyward by the looks of it. Interesting note is with the departure of Heyward only Joe Salave'a in the ONLY assistant coach who is a holdover from the Taggart year (Cristobal is head coach so not counting him).
  20. Didn't Trevor Lawrence travel with Clemson this last season when he was asymptomatic with COVID? These protocols strike me as dumb in the highest degree.
  21. We all know Cristobal is watching... but is he learning? I think the Spring game is going to be telling as to any changes to the offense. Moorhead will have more time to install his offense deliberately on the field. Realistically Moorhead only had one month of on field practice time before the season to install his offense. Yes, they had loads of zoom time but teaching and learning through zoom is no substitute for doing it in person (I've been doing it with high school and it SUCKS!). My big question is what will the offense look like with enough time to properly install the offense Moorhead wants to install. How much of last year's offense was based on the Arroyo offense because that was simply stuff all the players knew and with limited time they used what they knew while trying to install over the course of chaotic practices.
  22. Cyrus Habibi-Likio would have fallen into the depth chart badly next year regardless. He was already the No. 3 runningback behind Verdell and Dye and with Dollars showing some flashes and Benson coming along from all accounts CHL was going to really have to fight for the few snaps he was already getting. Adding Cardwell to the mix might knock him out entirely. CHL isn't a bad runningback, he has had some nice games, but he just isn't good enough to be the guy at Oregon or many other top Power Five Schools.
