Sources: Pac-12 TV Deal Expected Later This Spring or Summer
The only media deal will hopefully be the right deal for all the PAC members. Whether its the PAC 10, 12 or 16! The right media deal! The more media partners the more inventory necessary. That means more members. I feel confident that this is a complicated negotiation. So patience will be necessary. ESPN, Amazon and Apple will want whats best for them. The PAC will want whats best for them. And ultimately the lawyers will tell them what they can get. If i was representing the networks, i would have serious concerns that the PAC doesnt have enough quality games to fill everyones needs. It may be the elephant in the room.

Oregon Ducks Football: Nix’s Shot at the Heisman
IMHO, its important that usc, uw and the beavers do their part and win all their OOC games. Then win in early to mid October so the late October/November games are high profile events. However, victories by Utah over Florida and Baylor in September are critical to raising not only the conference perception but elevating Utahs SOS. There will be no BO Heisman without a Duck victory on the road against the Utes. Gonna be a fun ride watching OBD's In 2023. Go Ducks - Go Bo!

FUTURE MEMBER? REGARDLESS, HATS OFF TO SAN DIEGO STATE
Congrats to SDSU Mens BB Team. Making the Elite 8, Final 4 and NCG is no small feat! That path has eluded numerous PAC mrmbers for decades. Well done......... There are so many quality reasons to invite SDSU, SMU and others into the PAC. There are 10 reasons, the Presidents, while they wont get an invite. The PAC is taking their time, hopefully to get the media deal and expansion right! Their previous track record for high, quality decision making leaves alot to be desired. What is obvious to many may not even matter to the 10 Presidents. From my life long business decision making experience here are a few of my steadfast rules: Dont think you are the smartest person in the room Dont think you are better than who you are dealing with. Be open minded and forward thinking. Put your self in the other persons shoes. But then again I dont have a college degree. So i could be wrong.

It's Prime Time in Boulder, Colorado
Anything positive that draws national attention to and for the PAC is welcome. Deon is a natural born lightning rod for attention. A,winning season in Colorado will demand attention from ALL the sports networks. No one will want to miss out on anything coming out of Deons mouth. And Deon will have plenty to say! A Duck vs Buffaloe PAC Title game in the next few seasons will raise the PAC profile, image and recruiting. Go Ducks and Go PAC...........

Why the Pac-12’s Survival is in Everyone’s Interest
Personally, our Ducks and the huskies would be foolish and short sighted if they didnt accept an offer from the BIG. That's if they actually get an invite....... 5 years from now, usc, ucla, noryhwestern, maryland and rutgers could have $150 million more in the bank than any PAC member. That number could be much higher depending on what GK can or cannot put together. Rutgers or Maryland could afford to steal the best PAC coaches. Money talks. Coaches are for sale to the highest bidder in many cases. Recruiting could suffered without competitive linear exposure. Not in the short term. 8 to 10 years need to see OBD's in order to dream about them. I hate the idea of the PAC breaking up...... However, TV and money drive the football bus. Ask yourself do you want to be on the bus or watching the bus drive right by? Dont worrry Duck fans, the presidents have watched alot of buses drive by the last 10 years...

Pac-12 Media Deal - “Nothing to Suggest” a Deal is Coming Anytime Soon
As mentioned before, none of us, including sports writers, bloggers and fools know any facts. Just the people in the room. The negotiators, lawyers, GK and the Presidents. Perhaps there are no leaks because there is no news to leak. If a school President says there is no imminent deal, well, i believe him. i feel confident that OBD's will be playing football games in September of 2024 in Autzen. What linear channel or streaming channel they will be on will be determined. What conference they may be in will be determined. And i certainly have no say in those decisions. I only control being a Duck fan. And getting to discuss all this info or disinfo on this great Forum. And DL, his staff anf players will determine the outcome on the field. GO Ducks.........

An Offer From B1G in April Coming?
Other than the concern over poor usc and ucla having to travel so much, how has anything changed in regards to UO and UW Going to the BIG? The BIG didn't want the schools because they didn't bring enough value. They didnt move the meter in July, so how do they move the meter now? Some of the BIG presidents expressed concern that they didnt want to destroy another conference completely. Have they changed their minds? tOSU and USC will vote no on the invite. The Ducks currently dominate usc and tOSU doesnt want a legitimate challenger. It's bad enough that Michigan has won 2 in a row. tOSU will not want to come to Autzen. The conference is 2 legit teams and 12 wannabees. With 2 more wannabees set to join. The Ducks are a legit athletic department that will challenge on many fronts. If the,SEC makes a move, in some fashion for Clemson and FSU thrn the BIG may counter with UO and uw. But what do I know?

What Programs Would You Like to See the Ducks Schedule in the Future?
Great question and welcome to the Forum! If the PAC ends up with more streaming games than linear then these would be my preferences. 1. Go to an 8 game conference schedule. 2. Schedule home and homes with P5 opponents that get OBD's on national linear tv. This can be done without scheduling Bama, The Real Dawgs and tOSU. We need the exposure and should schedule opponents ranked 5 thru 20. 3. However, if winning the PAC gets us into the expanded playoff then schedule the big dogs, too. As long as the money is $5 million plus, and we dont have to share the revenue. Actually all PAC teams shouldn't have to share revenue for non conference games. 4. Every school for itself and stay in the PAC. Its home.........

March Madness: UCLA/USC Leaving, Pac-12 Gets Their Money
The unit payouts for each game played in the NCAA can provide much needed annual cash for conferences and their members. Certain members of the PAC seem to be content with "receiving the money" and doing very little to build their programs to bring in the money. With ucla and usc leaving that reduces future units that they would have produced for the PAC, especially ucla, for years to come. All revenue matters! Bringing in SDSU will help because they make the dance often. At least more often than Cal or WSU for example. Hopefully, the PAC can bring in Gonzaga for basketball. They are an annual dancer and usually play 3 games. An excellent replacement for ucla.

Lanning Can’t Accept Defensive Mediocrity in 2023
Joshua, you are so correct that anything less than significant improvement should be cause for major concern. This fan has never expected the Duck defense to be like the 2021 Georgia defense. If my memory is correct they had 8 players drafted by the NFL. Oregon's talent and depth of talent does not measure to that level. However, thats okay! But the Duck D unit had enough talent and experience to not allow the Beavers to dominate the last 20 minutes of clock in the Civil War game. The players looked lost or didnt care. 12 games into the season and they couldnt make a stop? With a trip to the PAC title game on the line? GEEZ! This Duck fan is excited about the new transfer players and incoming freshmen that DL and staff have assembled. The talent level may be the best in the PAC. To me the staff must improve on player development or I will be concerned. The players need to learn the scheme and jell as a unit. Then bring energy and pride to the field. GO DUCKS.........

Canzano: Cutting Through the Noise About the Pac-12
It's always difficult to know another persons agenda or end game. They can look you in the eye, shake your hand and on the surface lead you to believe that you have an agreement. As humans we tend to believe people will be true to their word. 2 good examples would be the BIG commish agreeing that neither the ACC, PAC 12 or BIG would poach any teams from their respective conferences. Or anytime the USC President opened her mouth. We know how well the words of assuances or hand shakes turned out. My Mom would have simply said they were liars and should not be trusted. As for some sports writers, podcasters and influencers, well to validate their existence, they must say or write something. Their are no consequemces to their BS they peddle. Doesn't matter who they hurt, demean or mislead. They just want clicks. They dont want respect. They want clicks. The more outrageous the statement the more clicks. We have choices to believe them or not believe them. Not once have these BS click bait artists named a source that was in the room. Evidently the greatest source is an unnamed source. I think we all know what my mom would say about these click bait clowns......

Oregon, Washington B1G Consideration After April 17th
For discussion's sake let's say that the BIG begins negotiations for Oregon and Washington....... Why not invite Stanford and Cal, too? This reduces teams traveling east for both the BIG and FOX's prize, the sacred cow that is usc. This creates a more diverse After Dark Friday and Satutday football games for FOX to offer. This move would shut out ESPN, the world wide leader in sports from west coast sports. FOX would control the LA, Bay Area, Portland and Seattle media markets. Shutting out and damaging a rival? This fits FOX And USC's mission statement perfectly. Now potentially, ESPN would have to raise their offer to the PAC into the $50 million per school range. Or vacate big time west coast sports. Then ESPN could broadcast the revised MWC for way less money. Maybe in the $10 million per school range. This fits the new ESPN/ABC mission statement, too. Cheap, get them cheap. There will be only one winner in all of this mess, FOX/BIG.

The Pac-10 Conference - Time to Fight Back?
JJ, that was a powerful post. Thanks for a well qualified and detailed explanation. One of the questions I have: In figuring potential damages to the remaining 9 schools (Cal may be out of equation because the Board of Trustees okayed UCLA to leave) do they need to wait until the final media rights offers are in? Then assess danages. Another question: If WSU and OSU get left behind and the PAC disbands, would they have potential standing ro sue all the other schools? Or just USC and UCLA. The lack of progress by GK leads me to believe we are looking at an unfavorable outcome.

Two Things To Watch This Spring
I would like the returning players and coaches, who have a season under their belt in DL's system, lead the new or incoming players into the system. They are all part of DL''s culture and can and should lead by example. Hopefully, that culture's end goal is a National Champuonship for the Ducks. The future is now, its today.Having the opportunity to play on Sunday means being your A+ game to practice, today. And everyday. GO DUCKS........

Does B1G Have A Viable Strategy For UCLA And USC. . . Or Not?
JJ, based upon the metrics that FOX and ESPN have touted about pay outs being tied to TV sets, then SMU and SDSU should bring in more than enough additional revenue to earn $30 plus million per season. Enough to justify nembership. But i dont believe either network. They used leverage to gain an advantage for themselves with UT, OU, ucla and usc. They didnt care about the carnage that was left behind. They didnt care about the non revenue student athlete and or the well being of any athlete. They only cared about their bottom line. The schools and the networks did what was best for themselves. Now we can say that it is just business. Fair enough..... Our family business employs and helps sustain 14 families and their lively hood. Another competive company wanted to create a strategic partnership that would on board 5 more families. All 19 families would be impacted financially and emotionally. Just business, right? However, our companies mission statement was grounded with a moral compass as a foundation. As well as our competitor. From the beginning, neither company would make a move if it cost one job. How could we enhance corporate growth, increase profits without cutting duplicate positions? Well after 5 months of talking together, listening to each others needs and laying out a plan, we accomplished it. People working together can achieve when working for the betterment of others. Each forum member can and will derive what they want from that example. FOX does not have a plan for usc and ucla, they dont care about them. They got what they wanted. Blocking ESPN from the So Cal market. In the process, poor decision making by PAC officials, coupled by FOX's pirating of the PAC's most valuable media property left 10 PAC families in a hardship situation. We had a choice to protect all 19 families and we did. FOX had choices to be up front and protect all 12 PAC families. They chose not to..........

Does B1G Have A Viable Strategy For UCLA And USC. . . Or Not?
Its interesting to me that Oregon has done well whem traveling east. I may not have this correct so it may not be accurate. Please add to or correct for those in the know: OBD's traveled to Ann Arbour and beat Michigan. Traveled to Tennessee and took the Vols to the woodshed. Traveled to East Lansing and lost in a good game with the Spartans. Traveled to Columbus and embarrassed tOSU Bucleyes. That last victory over tOSU coupled with our dominamce over the Trojans may keep Orrgon from getting am invite to thr BIG. The Ducks have traveled well the last 2 decades. With the expanded playoffs, as long as the PAC holds P5 status, I expect our Ducks to make the CFP 3 out of every 5 years. The road to a Natty will be far less complicated for our Ducks than the road ahead for UT, OU, ucla and those who are trojanless. Go Ducks. A natty will generate millions and change the PAC's perception.

Incompetent PAC-12 Leadership
No worries. U r correct that UT killed the expansion move in 2011 or 2012. They did not want to give up their Longhorn network. I am trying to find the article where they were looking to join the PAC again before they made the decision to move to the SEC. UT amd OU would have found the money in the PAC (with them as members) substantial. And a little easier than climbing over The Dawgs and Bama. Normally, things work out for the better in the long run. In this case it is difficult to vision the long run when the short term is not set. Appreciate your comments and well thought out breakdowns. This forum is great.

Incompetent PAC-12 Leadership
It's not what they did, its how they did it. Keep in mind that usc and ucla blocked UT and OU from PAC membership. If those 2 schools had joined the PAC, then ALL the media giants would be BIDDING for the PAC 14 media rights. Payouts would be $70 million plus per year. They put FOX in near linear control and gave them direct west coast prime viewing slots. Slots that compete against the remaining PAC members. Then last summer, knowing they were going to head to BIG, they blocked the PAC 12 - BIG 12 merger. THEY BLOCKED IT.. ... I respect how you feel, i just have a different view poibt. The 2 traitors were not one part smart and one part lucky. They planned this exit. Keep in mind if they had stayed in the PAC, the media market value was around $500 million. And that is before the bidding. FOX would have had to bid to have west coast content. ESPN would have had to bid to keep their west coast content. The 2 traitors made it possible for FOX to get what they wanted and ESPN to low ball the PAC. They left the PAC high and dry. I would have been disappointed if Oregon had done this to the PAC and my financial support would have stopped. This move was not necessary, IMHO, but it was planned.

Incompetent PAC-12 Leadership
It certainly looks like GK misread the media market. Or, due to the unstable economy, the available dollars simply diminished. Also, FOX no longer needs the PAC for after dark viewing. They have usc and ucla home games to broadcast in the late viewing window. FOX doesnt need to spend money to compete with itself. And no one, including GK, all other conference commissioners and AD's could have known that ESPN would tighten their belt and spend less. Both FOX (BIG) and ESPN (SEC) are all in on their conference partners. Both networks spent leftover dollars together to tie up the BIG12 until the next major expansion round The PAC is guilty of slow play and arrogance, maybe more than anything.

Incompetent PAC-12 Leadership
The BIG12 had the opportunity to invite both SMU and SDSU into their conference. But chose to replace Texas and Oklahoma with the likes of BYU, Cincinnatti, Houston and one of the Florida schools. An invite for SMU was blocked by TCU and Baylor. Their was no economic or recruiting value in diluting the DFW market with the SMU addition. The BIG12 snubbed the Mustangs........ A possible invite to SMU by the PAC would benefit the Mustangs. They would move from G5 to P5 status. Enabling them to compete against TCU and Baylor for 4 and 5 star Texas talent. As a PAC member they should make 3 or 4 times more money per year than the $7 million a year they receive now....... SDSU is a different story for the BIG12 conference. This opens up the PST time zone and California recruiting for the other BIG12 schools. They could invite Fresno State as a travel partner for SDSU. The BIG12 is driven more by money than whether a school is a research university. This allows the BIG12 the window to enter the 4 and 7:30 pm television broadcast window on Friday and Saturday. With usc and ucla the BIG also has the same window to broadcast in. 9:30 or 10:30 kick offs are not ideal for fans who live in the CST or EST time zones. Welcome to the world of PAC after dark...... The only thing keeping SDSU out of the BIG12 is SDSU. They want to be in the PAC, not the BIG12. The only thing the BIG12 offers SDSU is a bargaining chip against the PAC for an immediate full share of the media money. Only time will tell how this plays out for both SMU and SDSU. Both schools have made massive investments into their athletic facilities. They both meet the academic profile for expansion into the PAC. Now neither school can replace the TV sets lost by the 2 traitors departure. However, both schools are in the top 30 TV markets. Both schools are in rich fertile receuiting areas. Good for them and good for the PAC. Patience, patience and more patience. Good things come to yhose who wait.

Canzano: Pac-12 Officially Exploring Four Expansion Schools
JJ, thanks for pointing out the value of the LV market. I did not realize how large of population LV is. They would make a great travel partner for SDSU. Hopefully they have donors willing to make an investment in higher coaches salaries. And a willing investment into a NIL collective. All the expansion schools should be prepared to step up to attract 4 and 5 star athletes in their foot print. SMU and SDSU have top level talent within a quarter tank of gas drive. Gonna take some young dynamic recruiters and Brinks truck NIL packages to get it done.

Canzano: Pac-12 Officially Exploring Four Expansion Schools
JJ that is an interesting proposal or thought process..... I believe the PAC should keep the BIG 12 out of the Pacific Time Zone. However, FSU and UNLV do not move the money meter. But it keeps the BIG12 from PST broadcasts. Adding teams in DFW, Houston, San Antonio and New Orleans have the greater potential to move the money meter. A pod of 4 teams in the CST time zone opens up more games to broadcast. More regional interest and the chances to create natural rivalries. My gut feeling is that the PAC10 Presidents will do just enough to get a media rights package with unequal shares to placate the Ducks and huskies. But very little else. This short 4 to 7 year media package allows the PAC the time to properly prepare for and negotiate an ACC-PAC merger down the road. Create a super conference..... Or simply survive until the BIG finishes with their expansion. Then the once proud Conference of Champions can quietly fade into a footnote in sports history. If the PAC stays at 10 teams that could be a telling sign.

Canzano: Pac-12 Officially Exploring Four Expansion Schools
Me too, Annie. However all may not be lost. Oregon is the prime viewing property for the PAC. We should see a lot of 4 to 4:30 PST, kickoffs for the Ducks, Utah and or washington. Showcasing the best game for better viewing in the EST and CST time zones. At this point SMU cannot be a flag bearer for the PAC in the Central Time Zone. All and i mean all the schools need to invest in upping their football profile, nationally.

Canzano: Pac-12 Officially Exploring Four Expansion Schools
It's difficult to know or guess what all the parties want, at this point! As we all recognize its just best guessing on our part. Rest assured all parties involved want control of the situation. There's one thing that the PAC controls: Friday and Saturday night content without competition. ESPN has done real well with the PAC after dark. The streamers should be able to do the same.
