I would like the returning players and coaches, who have a season under their belt in DL's system, lead the new or incoming players into the system. They are all part of DL''s culture and can and should lead by example. Hopefully, that culture's end goal is a National Champuonship for the Ducks. The future is now, its today.Having the opportunity to play on Sunday means being your A+ game to practice, today. And everyday. GO DUCKS........

JJ, based upon the metrics that FOX and ESPN have touted about pay outs being tied to TV sets, then SMU and SDSU should bring in more than enough additional revenue to earn $30 plus million per season. Enough to justify nembership. But i dont believe either network. They used leverage to gain an advantage for themselves with UT, OU, ucla and usc. They didnt care about the carnage that was left behind. They didnt care about the non revenue student athlete and or the well being of any athlete. They only cared about their bottom line. The schools and the networks did what was best for themselves. Now we can say that it is just business. Fair enough..... Our family business employs and helps sustain 14 families and their lively hood. Another competive company wanted to create a strategic partnership that would on board 5 more families. All 19 families would be impacted financially and emotionally. Just business, right? However, our companies mission statement was grounded with a moral compass as a foundation. As well as our competitor. From the beginning, neither company would make a move if it cost one job. How could we enhance corporate growth, increase profits without cutting duplicate positions? Well after 5 months of talking together, listening to each others needs and laying out a plan, we accomplished it. People working together can achieve when working for the betterment of others. Each forum member can and will derive what they want from that example. FOX does not have a plan for usc and ucla, they dont care about them. They got what they wanted. Blocking ESPN from the So Cal market. In the process, poor decision making by PAC officials, coupled by FOX's pirating of the PAC's most valuable media property left 10 PAC families in a hardship situation. We had a choice to protect all 19 families and we did. FOX had choices to be up front and protect all 12 PAC families. They chose not to..........

Its interesting to me that Oregon has done well whem traveling east. I may not have this correct so it may not be accurate. Please add to or correct for those in the know: OBD's traveled to Ann Arbour and beat Michigan. Traveled to Tennessee and took the Vols to the woodshed. Traveled to East Lansing and lost in a good game with the Spartans. Traveled to Columbus and embarrassed tOSU Bucleyes. That last victory over tOSU coupled with our dominamce over the Trojans may keep Orrgon from getting am invite to thr BIG. The Ducks have traveled well the last 2 decades. With the expanded playoffs, as long as the PAC holds P5 status, I expect our Ducks to make the CFP 3 out of every 5 years. The road to a Natty will be far less complicated for our Ducks than the road ahead for UT, OU, ucla and those who are trojanless. Go Ducks. A natty will generate millions and change the PAC's perception.

No worries. U r correct that UT killed the expansion move in 2011 or 2012. They did not want to give up their Longhorn network. I am trying to find the article where they were looking to join the PAC again before they made the decision to move to the SEC. UT amd OU would have found the money in the PAC (with them as members) substantial. And a little easier than climbing over The Dawgs and Bama. Normally, things work out for the better in the long run. In this case it is difficult to vision the long run when the short term is not set. Appreciate your comments and well thought out breakdowns. This forum is great.

It's not what they did, its how they did it. Keep in mind that usc and ucla blocked UT and OU from PAC membership. If those 2 schools had joined the PAC, then ALL the media giants would be BIDDING for the PAC 14 media rights. Payouts would be $70 million plus per year. They put FOX in near linear control and gave them direct west coast prime viewing slots. Slots that compete against the remaining PAC members. Then last summer, knowing they were going to head to BIG, they blocked the PAC 12 - BIG 12 merger. THEY BLOCKED IT.. ... I respect how you feel, i just have a different view poibt. The 2 traitors were not one part smart and one part lucky. They planned this exit. Keep in mind if they had stayed in the PAC, the media market value was around $500 million. And that is before the bidding. FOX would have had to bid to have west coast content. ESPN would have had to bid to keep their west coast content. The 2 traitors made it possible for FOX to get what they wanted and ESPN to low ball the PAC. They left the PAC high and dry. I would have been disappointed if Oregon had done this to the PAC and my financial support would have stopped. This move was not necessary, IMHO, but it was planned.

It certainly looks like GK misread the media market. Or, due to the unstable economy, the available dollars simply diminished. Also, FOX no longer needs the PAC for after dark viewing. They have usc and ucla home games to broadcast in the late viewing window. FOX doesnt need to spend money to compete with itself. And no one, including GK, all other conference commissioners and AD's could have known that ESPN would tighten their belt and spend less. Both FOX (BIG) and ESPN (SEC) are all in on their conference partners. Both networks spent leftover dollars together to tie up the BIG12 until the next major expansion round The PAC is guilty of slow play and arrogance, maybe more than anything.

The BIG12 had the opportunity to invite both SMU and SDSU into their conference. But chose to replace Texas and Oklahoma with the likes of BYU, Cincinnatti, Houston and one of the Florida schools. An invite for SMU was blocked by TCU and Baylor. Their was no economic or recruiting value in diluting the DFW market with the SMU addition. The BIG12 snubbed the Mustangs........ A possible invite to SMU by the PAC would benefit the Mustangs. They would move from G5 to P5 status. Enabling them to compete against TCU and Baylor for 4 and 5 star Texas talent. As a PAC member they should make 3 or 4 times more money per year than the $7 million a year they receive now....... SDSU is a different story for the BIG12 conference. This opens up the PST time zone and California recruiting for the other BIG12 schools. They could invite Fresno State as a travel partner for SDSU. The BIG12 is driven more by money than whether a school is a research university. This allows the BIG12 the window to enter the 4 and 7:30 pm television broadcast window on Friday and Saturday. With usc and ucla the BIG also has the same window to broadcast in. 9:30 or 10:30 kick offs are not ideal for fans who live in the CST or EST time zones. Welcome to the world of PAC after dark...... The only thing keeping SDSU out of the BIG12 is SDSU. They want to be in the PAC, not the BIG12. The only thing the BIG12 offers SDSU is a bargaining chip against the PAC for an immediate full share of the media money. Only time will tell how this plays out for both SMU and SDSU. Both schools have made massive investments into their athletic facilities. They both meet the academic profile for expansion into the PAC. Now neither school can replace the TV sets lost by the 2 traitors departure. However, both schools are in the top 30 TV markets. Both schools are in rich fertile receuiting areas. Good for them and good for the PAC. Patience, patience and more patience. Good things come to yhose who wait.
-
JJ, thanks for pointing out the value of the LV market. I did not realize how large of population LV is. They would make a great travel partner for SDSU. Hopefully they have donors willing to make an investment in higher coaches salaries. And a willing investment into a NIL collective. All the expansion schools should be prepared to step up to attract 4 and 5 star athletes in their foot print. SMU and SDSU have top level talent within a quarter tank of gas drive. Gonna take some young dynamic recruiters and Brinks truck NIL packages to get it done.
-
JJ that is an interesting proposal or thought process..... I believe the PAC should keep the BIG 12 out of the Pacific Time Zone. However, FSU and UNLV do not move the money meter. But it keeps the BIG12 from PST broadcasts. Adding teams in DFW, Houston, San Antonio and New Orleans have the greater potential to move the money meter. A pod of 4 teams in the CST time zone opens up more games to broadcast. More regional interest and the chances to create natural rivalries. My gut feeling is that the PAC10 Presidents will do just enough to get a media rights package with unequal shares to placate the Ducks and huskies. But very little else. This short 4 to 7 year media package allows the PAC the time to properly prepare for and negotiate an ACC-PAC merger down the road. Create a super conference..... Or simply survive until the BIG finishes with their expansion. Then the once proud Conference of Champions can quietly fade into a footnote in sports history. If the PAC stays at 10 teams that could be a telling sign.
-
Me too, Annie. However all may not be lost. Oregon is the prime viewing property for the PAC. We should see a lot of 4 to 4:30 PST, kickoffs for the Ducks, Utah and or washington. Showcasing the best game for better viewing in the EST and CST time zones. At this point SMU cannot be a flag bearer for the PAC in the Central Time Zone. All and i mean all the schools need to invest in upping their football profile, nationally.

It's difficult to know or guess what all the parties want, at this point! As we all recognize its just best guessing on our part. Rest assured all parties involved want control of the situation. There's one thing that the PAC controls: Friday and Saturday night content without competition. ESPN has done real well with the PAC after dark. The streamers should be able to do the same.

Onboarding 2 to 4 schools is the easier course of action than onboarding one or two streaming companies. As we all know the PAC has been taking a lot of criticism because they dont have a media deal in place. When you are part of pioneering a new venture, i assure you it is not easy........ The other conferences had little trouble landing their deals because the linear broadcast industry is set in stone. This many TV sets, well then we pay this much money. Simple. The PAC 10 was told $300 million a year by ESPN. Thats what you are worth, take it or leave it. GK and The Presidents decided to explore all options. The BIG 12 and its commish and writers are full of .... They jumped the gun to get a new deal ahead of the PAC. Their conference is weak in footbsll and has very little fan interest outside of Texas. It took ESPN and FOX to work together to give thst pissant conference an extension that boosted their payouts by a measley $3 million a year. WOW. That sure narrowed the revenue gap against the BIG and SEC payouts. I have been very critical of the PAC and GK thru this process. However, i am going to cut them some slack and give them some cudos for this out of the box effort. They are boldly going where college football has never gone before. GK, the conferemce and the streamers are building the blueprint out of thin air. Hec, they are making yhis up as they go along. The streaming companies need games to broadcast. 2 expansion teams replace the home games lost from the 2 traitors departure. 2 more teams then will add 14 more home games to broadcast. Remember the more time zones the better for the streamers. ( I for one will stream SMU vs ASU on Saturday morning at 10 am pst) Both streamers need the PAC Network for quality broadcasts. They need camera operators, equipment and command centers. They need on field and on air talent. The streamers are probably needing the PAC to help them lay out the road map. Bringing this all together is complicated and rightfully takes time. However the PAC 10 has 3 things going for it that the BIG 12 doesnt have: OREGON - UTAH - washington Name me one brand in the new BIG 12 you would place ahead of these 3 schools for national recognition. The new deal will probably not be the very best deal. However, if this is set up correctly and the new expansion teams grow their brands then the next deal could be a blockbuster. Oregon, Utah or washington winning a natty wouldn't hurt either.......

This is the second BS article by this clown in a week. His source is always unnamed. UNNAMED..... IF u aren't in the room how the hec do you know that negotiations are floundering? Is your source a fly on the wall? For what it is worth because this writer is worthless, Wilner and Canzano have QUOTED PAC Presidents and AD's. Not unnamed sources. Common sense at some point should apply..........

Will Stein: Oregon’s New OC and Miracle-Maker?
HappyToBeADuck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thank you Charles! Ir's a positive, refreahing take on Coach Stein and supports his ability to be flexible and creative. I really appreciated the take on his placing the players in an offense that the players can execute while being coached up. Imagine a team full of 2 stars and walk ons willing ro be coached up! Working hard to succeed and then accomplishing that on the field. Well done WS and staff. Now if DL and staff can work a miracle like that on the Ducks Defense! I truly hope that this star studded unit is willing to learn and work together. As,a fan, i would like to be excited when the Duck Defense takes the field........... -
Thanks JJ....... SMU and SDSU need travel partners and immediate, end of season rivalry games. It bodes well for their financial health and great regional media broadcasts...... Fresno State and UNLV may very well be added to the BIG12, if the PAC passes on them. Would hate to see the BIG 12 get a foothold in the Pacific Time Zone. I wonder if any of the BIG 12 schools would head to the PAC if the money was right? Houston would be a smart pic, however it may not be in their best interest. Go GK....
-
Thank you P Duck for posting these 2 articles from Wilner. Really appreaciate you and all others who dig out these articles. These articles were refreshing because Wilner listed no "unnamed sources" So called expert sources who grasp onto anything to present the WOW FACTOR to get clicks. If you can't name the source then its just media speak on the BS barometer. Wilner, got on the record comments from 2 PAC Presidents. We learned nothing new, except that the sky isn't falling and the final details are close. The 2nd article was a Q&A with fans and Wilner answered them with what knowledge he had. The rest was Wilners opinion. Once the media rights and distribution rights are completed then GK will take it to the Presidents for a vote. Then we will see if any of the rumors by the unamed sources and the chicken .... writers is true. Fun times. Go Ducks in the upcoming BB conference tournaments.......

I find it so interesting that so called sources, who are not in the room with GK, network negotiators and others, are deemed credible or reliable. Have any of the so called sources been accurate on the PAC 10 info yet? Where were these so called sources when the 2 traitors were sneeking around betraying their business partners? They didnt know anything then and they dont know jack now........... When the ink dries on the media rights contract then we will all know.

Genuinely happy that this situation turned out positive for this young man. I like DL's swift response in both directions. Showed the team, staff and school that their is no tolerance in his program for any indescretions. Showed the team, staff and school that he can swifty act when he may have made a snap, knee jerk reaction. He did not let his ego get in the way. Well done..... Now lets turn this into a positive on the field. Mistakes will be made, however growth comes thru learning and overcoming our mistakes. I hope that GK and the 10 presidents can get their egos out of the way and learn from their mistakes! Too much to ask?

I really think that GK and the PAC Presidents could do a better job of informing their loyal fans. The Unity Letter was vague because all it said was the 10 teams are united and working together. My answer to that is 2 fold: Well i would hope you would be united and sticking together. All the good ships have sailed and none of you were on them! What are you united and sticking together for? And dont say the best media deal available. What is the conference short term, meduim term and long term goal? What does the conference want to look like in 5 years, 10 years, etc? GK can share the goals and vision without exposing critical information to suitors or competitors. I find it laughable that the BIG 12 can add 4 Group of 5 schools and its a stroke of genius! And when the PAC wants to add 2 G5 schools its a,sign of weakness.. Gk, pick the markets that make sense for media rights and expand. Get PK and his mega money friends to financially invest in the conference to heighthen the brand. Create a partnership that makes business sense. $120 million annually from Pk and business partners would bring each school $10 million a year above the media deal. Each school could invest in their athletic departments. Better coaching salaries, etc.... With some form of return on their annual investments. Naming righrs, free tuition for generations wtc. Its a new world when 2 conferences can purposely destroy 2 other conferences. Time for a new plan from those with smarts and money to help those who were purposely damaged.

Just curious. Did ESPN back out of their $300 million dollar offer? I cant find anything...... If not why are we having comnents about APPLE+ being the only place we can find the PAC? Is there an article that supports that APPLE+ is the only bidder? If ESPN is still on board, then take less money and stay put. If APPLE+ plus is the only bidder then the PAC is finished. Where to land? Who knows! PK should purchase the PAC Network. Settle the dust with Direct TV and become visible in 40 plus million homes. Whatrmever the fees and costs, well advertisers will pay the load. Expand into Texas for 3 reasons: Replace the 24 games lost to the 2 trairors. Midwest broadcasts Recruiting footprint OBD's need only to survive until the next round of expansion. When they leave the PAC will fracture.

Apple TV+ Could Decide Fate of PAC 12
HappyToBeADuck replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Cant open James Crepea's comment. So can maybe someone expound on it. Also did I miss an announcement? DId ESPN drop out of their proposed offer to the PAC? So much junk floating around, its hard to tell. Reaching the beyond confused point. -
Nice breakdown and analysis, Alex! In year 2 of Coach Lannings career we should see his process and hard nose culture take shape. Not just from the players but coaches, too! 3 of the 4 areas you covered should start improving with the over abundance of players during spring practice. Fierce competition just to make the aquad should bring out the best in these talented players 4th down and late game decisions will have to wait until the season starts. We know DL is a gambler and will take chances. So we will see if he improves. I agree with you and the previous posters that back up QB development and Defensive improvement are essential moving forward. Having a shut down D can help minimize risky in game decisions. Go Ducks! Nothing will help improve the PAC's National image like OBD's getting to and winning the Natty. The future is now........

THE PAC-16 - Time to Go to a 'Super Conference?'
HappyToBeADuck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks P Duck. That was a informative read and lends some credence to the possible slow movement on the media deal. I have been thru a number of negotiations, expansion and business mergers. In the middle of one right now that may wipe out 44 years of business equity. Its business and sometimes this happens. Being a great listener and paying close attention to the other party is critical. At some point, it takes understanding what the other side REALLY wants and needs. This will be boring and maybe redundant but hopefully fruitful. ESPN valued the remaining 10 PAC members media rights at $300 million annually. Unless it has been pulled off the table, that is the media rights basement. That may be lower as the economy tightens. $30 million a school per year. So we have only heard that Amazon and ESPN+ Streaming companies are interested in the PAC. Maybe or maybe not, but lets say they are. So ask yourself, as a network executive for a streaming company, what do i need from the PAC? Streamers need good quality games and plenty of them. And i would need them in different time zones to maximize broadcasts. The remaining 10 PAC members cannot deliver enough quality games weekly to satisfy both streamers and linear broadcasters. Its not that the sky is falling, it simply takes time to put that together. Now remember the PAC told us media contract first then we might expand. Well that didnt work out. Perhaps the streamers told GK to go get more quality games for us to broadcast. Then the money will come. Just a thought....... JJ and PDuck are correct. Go big. Create a conference that consumers want to see. In most negotiations you reveal just enough, never your full hand. Let's hope GK has a few aces up his sleeve to fill his hand. -
THE PAC-16 - Time to Go to a 'Super Conference?'
HappyToBeADuck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
JJ this is a great, out of the box, vision for a expanded PAC! Others on this great Forum have proposed a number of interesting realignment plans. You are correct that the Oregon brand is strong and will stay with the PAC or land on its feet. But for the next 4 to 6 years, ESPN will cover every Duck game on the CHEAP. The 7th largest draw in college football for pennies. Ask your self, how did this come to this? I can give you 10 reasons why this happened. That would be the 10 Presidents of Arizona, ASU, Cal, Colorado, Oregon, OSU, Stanford, Utah, washington, WSU and Utah. Why would the Presidents who, rejected UT and OU (football blue bloods), who rejected the entire BIG 12 last summer and who have snubbed their nose at SDSU and Fresno State for years all of a suddenly decide SMU and UTSA are better fits than any of those schools? Think about this, these are the same Presidents who had all the top BIG 12 schools handed to them on a silver platter. Yet these 10 have made poor decision after poor decision and rejected them. Now the PAC goes after table scraps in the Texas media market. Perhaps and just perhaps, desperation may force them to exercise forward thinking. So JJ do you think any of these Presidents feel deperate, yet? Desperate enough to make a good decision?
