  1. Lenoir is a backup DB with San Francisco, and Johnny Mundt is on the Rams, but out for this game, but Justin Hollins is there playing on Sunday as a backup. Kenjon Barner is playing for the Bucs, so a few Ducks are still alive.
  2. To be a great football coach--you must have the Xs and Os as Cristobal demonstrated with his lack of expertise in that area. (IMHO) But you also must be a great recruiter, and MC was that for certain. But you also must be a great CEO, to have supreme management skills, which to me, is what you are referring to. Very few coaches can do the Xs and Os like a CPA, yet recruit like a Master Salesman and yet be a truly great CEO. You have Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Bill Belichick, Bill Parcels,....a few you can name within two hands are skilled at all three areas. Over time it is darn few who have champion CEO skills in addition to the other two skills. So yes, it will be interesting to me to watch that aspect of Lanning's coaching, but being a CEO is more than Organizational Management, IMHO. It is establishing a culture that makes sense in reference to all else happening with the team. I will be interviewing some people at Georgia in the near future to give us a glimpse of what we might expect in the "culture" area. So I will politely disagree with "most of the results coming from Organizational Management over the years." I believe the OM is part of being a CEO, but the game-planning, in-game adjustments (Xs and Os) along with recruiting great talent are all equally important. And it is really hard to be good at all of them. Here's hoping he is, and I will agree that it will be quite fun to watch. Thanks for a great post to ponder...
  3. This does not bode well for Verdell returning if they are bringing in this guy for a look.
  4. Oh I love that....you gotta bring that up this fall!
  5. Lanning and staff are hard at work, and cross our fingers!
  6. No doubt they will be good if he gets his quarterback, but we have not yet seen what Lanning can do with a defense. The Pac-12 is going to be surprised... And if this means that both Oregon and USC are in the nations TOP-TEN, that is good for the conference.
  7. What I wrote above is not directed at Oregon fans, as we agree with you and are quite thankful. I have a whole section of nice articles about Phil Knight in the Oregon Football Repository. But yesterday morning we had two posts written by a new member who was here to do the usual, "you are nothing without Phil," and since I've seen and heard that so many times, (and will continue to get it in emails and posts by Trolls) I decided to have a "template" made above where I can copy and paste it or send them the link. While some of it is jealousy, a big part of it is a rationalization as to why THEY are not doing well, when Oregon is. It is their "Go-To" excuse, as they do not want to face the truth of their own fund-raising or bad decisions stacked up for years by their athletic administration. People are critical of Rob Mullens, (and yes he has made some mistakes and is not perfect) but without him and the ADs before him....we would have the record of our neighbors to the north. BTW....95% of you did not see what the Troll wrote, as our Moderators do a great job catching the bad posts, and hiding them from public view until I deal with the violator. So nice to not have to read that crap!
  8. I agree with that feeling, and it points to Verdell returning. But he would have had better run blocking at Oregon!
  9. Unfortunately, this might be the "Canary-in-the-Coal-Mine" that Oregon got outbid in NIL, and that doesn't sound right...does it? I appreciate what he did for us, but he is a treasonous enemy now. Travis....you will find that running behind the USC offensive line is..."where great backs go to DYE."
  10. This is not about fair, but factual. Washington has three times more Billionaires in their Alumni than Oregon, and a much bigger alumni base to draw from. Oregon's enrollment is 18,000 and Washington's is nearly double at 35,000 and thus twice as many donors to solicit. There are no excuses for anyone in the Tyee Club to be complaining about a lack of money in Montlake. And you do not have to be an alumni of the university to be an influential donor; Thomas Autzen went to Oregon State....
  11. As a side note--the two posts written this morning were not seen by many as a moderator caught them right away. So nice to not have to even read that nonsense!
  12. I hope this gives fuel the fire inside the current players. This is more than a gut-punch... No more pictures of him in the background of this forum!
  13. How many times have we Oregon fans heard that or read it? We just had another new "Drive-by Troll" today sign up to write something of that nature. I am creating this post with a response, so I don't have to rewrite it every time, but simply send the link to the opposing fans. If you have something to add, (and so many of you are better writers than I) do add it in the response posts below. Thanks! For Washington Fans: Let's talk facts: the State of Washington has 21 Billionaires, while Oregon has two. Washington is the only state that has two 100+ Billion Net Worth residents, while Phil and Penny Knight are worth 55 Billion. If you are not tapping into that wealth in Washington, then that is a problem with your fund-raising/development unit of the University of Washington, because ten-times more of the staggering wealth should be going to Husky causes than to the Ducks. When did Phil and Penny Knight begin to help Oregon? Only after the football program did it themselves, as only after the 1994 Rose Bowl and 1995 Cotton Bowl did Phil reach out to Mike Bellotti to see how he could help. You see, winners want to work with winners and Phil had to see that Oregon had good leadership in their football coach and Athletic Director. Meanwhile Washington made bad hire after bad hire following Jim Lambright, thus affluent Washington fans did not want to support that. Can you blame them? Your problems on the football field are of your own making, as Phil and Penny Knight had nothing to do with your poor Athletic Department leadership or poor fund-raising by the University of Washington. For Oregon State Fans: A crossroads moment in your football history had nothing to do with Phil and Penny Knight as in 1979 the OSU Athletic Director had a choice to make between three finalists for the open Head Football Coach slot. The choices were Terry Donahue, (who went to UCLA and won the most in Westwood ever) Rich Brooks, and Craig Fertig. (Who was the OC to the National Champion USC Trojans) Think of it; had your AD selected Brooks....Oregon's history would have been yours. Brooks would have brought Mike Bellotti to Corvallis, who then would have brought Chip Kelly in to wear orange. Meanwhile Oregon State made bad hire after bad hire following Dee Andros, thus affluent Beaver fans did not want to support that. Can you blame them? (There are plenty of business and engineering graduates who have done well and could be your next Phil and Penny, but....) Your problems on the football field are of your own making, as Phil and Penny Knight had nothing to do with your poor Athletic Department leadership. The Ducks first did it on their OWN, and then Attracted Substantial Donors
  14. And if that becomes the case...it is no longer a team that represents Oregon, and where are we left as fans?
  15. So Jim Mastro is doing anything or be anywhere other than with Cristobal? Do know that this is a BIG pay cut, as Nevada does not pay well. The new Head Coach from Oregon, Ken Wilson does not even make a million per year! Former Oregon RB Coach Jim Mastro takes Director of Ops. Job at Nevada by Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire
  16. Some pretty big names in there from the past--pretty cool seeing some of the pictures. Oregon Ducks Football Roster announced for Madden 22 Campus Legends by Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire Dan Fouts
  17. And where is the funding for all the other sports? What about equality for the women competing? All revenue generated from football is used to fund the other sports, so how do we fund them?
  18. And whatever you pay football players as employees...you have to pay the same to Women athletes in all sports. (The law)
  19. Omigosh! A new article where it states, "Does Cristobal take a long time to hire his coordinators? Yes, but he has a track record of getting the hire right—which is what matters most at the end of the day." Understanding Mario Cristobal’s Thorough and Meticulous Process with Putting Together a Coaching Staff by David Lake of InsidetheU (Try not to hurl) He KNOWS what he is doing!
  20. My FishDuck Friends, when a new coach is building his staff--doesn't he first hire the Coordinators so that the input is given for the other assistant coaches hired since they need to be all versed in the same offense or defense? Isn't that what Coach Lanning did? Yet Mario has hired everyone but his coordinators, and we've already discussed extensively why anyone would pass on being his offensive coordinator, but what about his defensive coordinator? It would appear that he has not had any luck there either, and that should have been one of his first hires? Now he looking for some NFL underling to fill the spot? Mario Cristobal Considering NFL Coach to be Defensive Coordinator by Christopher Stock of InsidetheU I was pondering this, and thought about how DeRuyter just left as soon as he could, and did not look back. He did not have the year on defense that we thought he would have....and it makes me wonder..."did Mario meddle in the defense too?" Is that why he can't hire a DC, as the word is out among coaches that you cannot execute your own plan? You'll note that Andy Avalos left in much the same way--just gone, with little in the way of parting gestures like you saw with other assistant coaches. Avalos had a terrific 2019, but not a good 2020...was there "Mario-Meddling" there as well? I have NO proof,I am simply connecting some dots. The media has made a BIG DEAL of the Cristobal hire at Miami, and yet he is becoming desperate to hire coordinators? Maybe the word is out among all the coaches, and it would not take long. Moorhead left in the same manner--just escaping. But Cristobal is SMARTER Than ALL of Us He has to be! His butting-in behaviors has been rewarded with EIGHT MILLION a year. So now that his MO has been reinforced, I cannot imagine that he will change since he was just told how good he is. And potential OCs and DCs know that, and the good ones want nothing to do with him. Moorhead went from a highly regarded national reputation to Akron? Whew! There is a lot more to this story than we'll ever know, but when you have repeated examples....
  21. Matt Prehm is the manager and primarily reporter/writer for 247, and has been doing this for years. I have much more, but cannot disclose in public! Let's just say that he has rules on their site--unless it pertains to FishDuck...then you have free reign to write anything. But he is very knowledgeable and has connections for his pay site.
  22. I love the weather report for Saturday's game at Green Bay; the high is expected to be 21 degrees, with a low of 5 degrees! Yikes.
  23. I am impressed with how fast he is in the video on this page that is free. In the right lower corner of the video--you can click to make it larger. Wowsa.
  24. It is not OUR values, but how the system is now designed. It is amazing that even if you fail as a coach...you get paid millions to go away! Disgusting to me too...
  25. 30Duck gets credit for the BEST description of the Cristobal scoring machine when he called it, "The Prevent-Offense!"
