Shocking, just shocking!

For that offense focused on running...Mariota was ideal. He was so fast.. Gabriel is a good runner, but he is not "Mariota-Fast," but then I believe Dillon is more accurate passing than Marcus. And yeah...LaMichael had that 4.30s breakaway speed that would create explosion plays for us. We have a recruit coming in next year to watch... Dierre Hill has run between 4.27 and 4.40s; he is the MaxPreps Illinois State Player of the Year, and ran for seven touchdowns in the State Title game.

He goes through primary run and pass plays on offense, and defensive issues as well. You may say, "Charles...it is 21 minutes!" I say, "we got a TON of time to blow!" (It is a long ways to Wednesday afternoon)

My impression is that we tried for a number of the top defensive tackles, but missed. Because we have so much extremely young depth at defensive tackle, I am assuming that they wanted only top-tier or none. However, they may be going to the portal, and the new JC Transfer rule in another thread could impact whether Jamaree Caldwell returns.

This week the NCAA Board of Directors granted a waiver to permit student athletes who attended a junior college for one or more years, eligibility to compete in 2025-2026. However, this waiver only applies to student athletes who would have otherwise used their final season of competition during the 2024-2025 academic year. Duck players impacted are starting safety Kobe Savage, starting defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell, offensive tackle Georgia Silva and cornerback Sione Laulea. This will not only impact those players who may return, but also who Oregon targets in the Portal and/or saves room for. Those first two defenders listed could be a B1G impact if they return next year. Effectively we would have safety covered between Savage and the Purdue Safety transfer. The departure hit on the defensive line would be highly softened by the return of Caldwell. When asked about it, Lanning offered nothing. Just that they have not addressed it yet, and probably won't until after the Rose Bowl. No. 90 Jamaree Caldwell Attacking...

I believe that our QB and OC are better, and that will be the slight edge in the Rose Bowl!

As you recall, Rivals is the toughest of the rating services, and has the most consistent historical data and thus why I refer to them. Oregon lost a signed WR recruit to Florida recently, Dallas Wilson, who was reported as a 5-Star. Perhaps on other services, but he is a Rivals 4-Star, and losing him did not change Oregon's No. 1 Ranking for the 2025 Recruiting Class. Why? Because Rivals looks at your best 20 signed recruits, and this way a team that signs 29 recruits is not rewarded more with a bunch of 2 or 3-Stars than a team that signs 22 recruits of high quality. In Oregon's case, we signed 20 recruits, and our average per recruit is still the best, hence why we retain the No. 1 Recruiting Ranking on Rivals. Having a record Four of the 5-Star recruits on Rivals is why, and is just astonishing. You know, I think I am in favor of 14 or 16 teams now so that all conference champions can get in, and we destroy the old Pac-12 team in the first round. Plus the SEC can get their undeserving teams in the Playoff and... Have Them Show Us How to Do It...

Great article David, as you present logic that I can swallow, and understand. Many people forget that the first round of any Playoff is supposed to have blow-outs. That is what the correct seeding does, as in the "March Madness" you have No. 1 Seeds playing No. 16 Seeds in the first round, and they usually win by 30 points. Everyone is used to it and it seems routine now. If the football seeding was done correctly, the blow-outs may have been worse and they should be in the future.

Harper was in the game in the second half against Penn State, and was key on a couple of plays in our final TD drive.

The endless string of analyses, the tons of articles stating the same things, my trepidation about the massive implications of this upcoming game....and nearly another week to wait? I am going to be a muttering-mass-of-protoplasm by the time the game gets here. I will be so nervous about winning, that I won't even be able to actually "see" what action is going on from an analysis standpoint. This is one of the worst build-ups for me in a long time, if not ever. If it were not Ohio State again, and if they did not look so darn impressive in their pasting of Tennessee--I would not be as wacko. Anybody got a tranquilizer?

Screw Ohio State, all their National Championships, and their entitled fans. Given a choice they would tell us "thanks" for adding to their media share, and then pat Oregon on the head, and tell us "you have a nice little team there." Then they would tell the Ducks to go out and play, and let the B1G boys conduct business that a former Pac-12 team would never understand. We will not be "in the club" for 30 years, if ever. How long has Penn State been in the B1G, and they still regard them as "the new guy?" Screw 'em. Take no prisoners...

Their hubris (Ohio State) going into the first game was the edge Oregon needed. With all this stuff said and written...I'm thinking Oregon just may have that edge back again. Ohio State and their fans are sounding the same as they were coming into Autzen in October...

The respect is clearly not yet there...

After watching the game again....I don't think that was the reason for Penn State run-gashing us. We did not set the edge well, and when our defensive tackles were both double-teamed--our linebackers did not come up and fill the gaps fast enough, IMHO. This is not your normal Penn State; that offense has become much more highly skilled as they burned us on pass plays that only a great OC can create, and a QB can implement. Their balanced attack kept us off-guard and hesitant, and that new OC for them has completely changed the outlook for the 'Lions for next year. PSU already had really fast defenders, a defense that was tough, but adding an offense that is now becoming more skilled and attaining their confidence makes them a much more difficult team. They will be a 'Natty contender now...this year and beyond. They absolutely are a 'Natty contender this year...

Good grief. He says it out loud...what we've always known the nation was thinking... "The Ducks aren't going anywhere. They have been an elite program for years now, but because they played in the Pac-12, not everyone took them entirely seriously." Wow. There is it, brutally out-loud. While leaving the Pac-12 was sad, but the best thing for us by a mile.

Whoever loses this Rose Bowl game...will have fans that are crushed. This will be a very tough game for either side to lose...
