  1. The line of demarcation in the House case is 6/15/2016 until the class was established in the case in 2023. The $2.8B settlement if approved by Judge Wilkins, will be paid over ten years. Attorneys fees between 25% and 35% of the judgment are expected to be awarded to the plaintiffs' attorneys. The House settlement does not bar further litigation. The NCAA hopes that if the House settlement is approved, college athletics will receive much-needed relief from Congress. Congressional relief may require forming a recognized players union for football and other sports, that can negotiate issues with 'management' however defined. In the Dartmouth basketball case, the players voted to join the Service Employees International Union Local 560. I doubt that Local 560 has much experience negotiating on behalf of athletes. As evidenced by the Dartmouth case and the Labor Department's suit against USC and the once-was Pac-12, expected to be amended to include B1G members, in addition to attorneys stirring the pot, you also have federal and state regulators and state legislatures chiming in. And, colleges are bringing litigation against the NCAA via their attorney generals to thwart any regulation of transfers and NIL. In short, it is a complete out-of-control mess. Imagine the NFL having two openings every year when players could switch teams for any or no reason. At what point does Atlas shrug? The NCAA has 1,000+ members but fewer than 50 are movers and shakers in money-making sports. Looking at the proposed House settlement, IMO it would have behooved the NCAA to file an anticipatory Chapter 7 Liquidation Bankruptcy procedure that would have stayed the House case, other litigation, and regulatory actions and limited the NCAA's liability to assets in hand. Bring the proposed filing to Congress and either obtain Congressional relief or file and liquidate the NCAA, limiting current member's damages, What possible sense does it make to settle House for close to $3B without relief from future litigation? Relief can only come from Congress or via a Super League where the athletes are employees and union members and negotiate enforceable agreements with the Super Conference management. The student-athlete model is dying a lingering death, Let's cut to the chase where schools unwilling to invest at least $X in athletics cannot participate at championship levels and where Northwestern isn't getting the same piece of the pie as Ohio State. Meanwhile, I'll enjoy what we have knowing that the Oregon Ducks may be brought to you by Nike but will not disappear.

  3. If you are going to get hammered, get hammered B1G. Hammerin’ the B1G: 1 game every new Big Ten head coach needs to win in 2024 SATURDAYTRADITION.COM The Big Ten has some new faces in the head coaching ranks looking to get off on the right foot. Certain games will go a long way in shaping their early future. B1G ask for Danno, beat Ohio State.
  4. Steven, thanks for the post but FPI should change its name to FP-Why? SP+ makes sense. FPI is off-the-wall. ESPN's computer models rarely conform. Unlike super-secret FPI, Bill Connolly explains the programming for SP+. As I posted elsewhere today. In its 2024 preseason rankings, College Football News ranks Oregon No. 4 out of 134 teams. Ohio State is ranked No. 1. In College Football News Strength of Schedule (SOS) rankings, Oregon has the 11th hardest SOS; Ohio State has the 57th hardest SOS. If this was the game of golf, Oregon would be getting at least 2 shots a side. The other B1G title contenders SOS: USC No. 1, Michigan No. 5, Penn State 14, Wisconsin 18, Iowa 22. and UW 33. There is not a preseason SOS ranking I have seen that does not have Ohio State with the easiest B1G schedule in 2024. Easiest by far. 8 home games. 3 G5 OOC games all in Columbus. Oregon plays 8 games without a break; Ohio State plays 6. Ohio State does play at Penn State. PSU last defeated tOSU in 2016. And, on 10/12/24, the Buckeyes visit Autzen. Iowa, Nebraska, and Michigan trip to Columbus. Other tOSU opponents - Michigan State, Purdue, Northwestern, and Indiana. With the odds for the Oregon game now Ohio State -1.5, Ohio State will be favored in every game.

  6. Playoff expansion winners and losers. College Football Playoff expansion winner and losers: Who does it benefit the most? WWW.MAIZENBREW.COM James Franklin might just be the biggest winner of all. Before the Committee produces its final 2024 season ranking and the first 12-team playoff seeding, it is fun to predict PO winners and losers. However, before we know how the Committee will deal with SOS in a mega-conference PO era, all projections are shots in the dark.
  7. FPI? Sigh. College Football News has ranked 134 eligible playoff teams and also ranked 134 teams by strength of schedule (SOS). Oregon is ranked No. 4. Oregon's SOS is ranked No. 11. Ohio State is ranked No. 1. Ohio State's SOS is ranked 57. But Oregon has the easier path to the playoffs? GIGO! Oregon has Big Ten’s best shot to make College Football Playoff according to ESPN FPI AUTZENZOO.COM New to the Big Ten but not new to fielding really strong football teams, the Oregon Ducks apparently have a pretty good shot of making it to the College Footbal

  12. No. 3 on this list is why Howard left K State for Ohio State. Howard was not going to start at K State. This could be Ohio State's 2024 Kryptonite. Howard will be handing off to two terrific RBs but will the O be balanced? And while the Ohio State D was great last season the OL also struggled. 13. The only team with better odds of going undefeated in 2024, is Notre Dame. Domers have a '4-game schedule: At A+M, Louisville, FSU, at USC. And, No. Ill., Purdue, Miami-Ohio, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Navy, UVA, Army (where are the Coast Guard and Air Force?) 5 games vs the G5. No 13th champ game. $cam. Looking at the B1G schedules, Ohio State visits Oregon but overall ahs a far easier schedule than the Ducks. Oregon Football's Exciting Chances At Undefeated Season WWW.YARDBARKER.COM Could the Oregon Ducks football team go undefeated in the 2024 college football season? 14. It's going to be a B1G Power 2 taffy pull when UNC comes to market. Not because of eyes on the prize, Nielson ranks UNC football 46th in 2023 viewership at 966K a game. Basketball is, of course, among the cream of the crop. Come the 2030's North Carolina will be the 5th most populous state in the Union. A market not covered by the B1G or the SEC. FSU with 4M viewers on average, 9th in the nation in 2023, would be immediately accretive for the B1G and the SEC. But until I see otherwise I do not believe the B1G, no matter how much Fox may urge to do so, offering a non-AAU member institution. (Oregon finished No. 7, with 4.43M viewers on average.) Clemson finished 19th in viewership, with 2.90M on average. FSU is close to and working hard to obtain AAU membership, but Clemson is not. UVA is 58th in viewership at 663K. Maryland has the B1G in the Del-Mar-Va market. Does the B1G want a team with the same lack of administrative support as we see from Cal and Stanford? The two no-brainer additions for both the B1G and the SEC are North Carolina and Notre Dame. FSU becomes an AAU member and the battle for the Seminoles will be fierce. The latest SEC football expansion news and rumors center on four ACC schools BAMAHAMMER.COM At the recent SEC meetings, Greg Sankey said little about future conference expansion. During the spring, Sankey devoted expansion comments to his belief the NC BTW, Greg Sankey is EVERYWHERE. Tony Petitti, where are you?
  15. Say it's not so Ducks and Beavers. Sunday could be the last day REAL Pac-12 teams compete in an athletic event. It is fitting that this article comes from the team site that started the Pac-12 on its way to oblivion. Is Sunday, June 9, 2024, the very end for all Pac-12 sports? TROJANSWIRE.USATODAY.COM We might have arrived at the very last day of Pac-12 sports. We’ll find out as the day unfolds.
  16. Back in the day, SC had Hall of Famer Tom Seaver (RIP) on the mound and many other good pitchers alongside Tom. USC's program is a shell of its former self. Stanford baseball has fallen off also. And ASU turned out good teams year after year. Seaver transferred in from JC and in his one season at SC, 1965, he went 10-2. A few years back the SEC decided to improve in basketball and baseball. Missions accomplished.
  17. Bummer. The crowd was impressive. The fans were into the game and never down when A+M was behind. Better luck in game 2.
  18. I am not a fan of FPI but I would be fine with Oregon defeating Ohio State in the B1G champ game. https://athlonsports.com/college-football/espn-fpi-predicts-oregon-ducks-win-big-ten-championship
  19. Athlon Sports uses the NFL scheduling model to put Joel's idea on paper. Every P4 team would play 2 other P4 teams OOC. Based upon last year's finishes, Oregon would host SMU and play Texas in Austin. Rivalries such as Georgia vs Georgia Tech, Florida vs FSU, USC vs Notre Dame, etc. would be protected and played annually. https://athlonsports.com/college-football/how-college-football-would-look-with-nfl-style-schedule-2024

  22. A couple of SEC football teams have the easiest paths to Atlanta BAMAHAMMER.COM In the new world of SEC Football, getting to 10 wins in the regular season is almost as important as playing in the SEC Championship Game. Winning SEC Champions With 18 teams in the B1G and 9 conference games and 16 in the SEC and 8 conference games intra-conference SOS will vary widely. This season, Ohio State has the easiest schedule among the B1G title contenders, and Missouri has the easiest schedule in the SEC. The B1G will vary the intra-conference opponents, except for designated permanent opponents, UW in the case of Oregon, every season. I was very surprised considering the disparity in the SEC SOS that the SEC is mirroring the 2024 conference schedule in 2025. Only the venues will change. Mizzou has a back-to-back cakewalk compared to Oklahoma. Georgia will have one of the more difficult schedules back-to-back while Texas' conference schedule is one of the easiest in the SEC. (However, in 2024 Texas plays Michigan in Ann Arbor and in 2025, plays Ohio State in Columbus.) Teams in the B1G and the SEC could be superior to lesser conference teams and go 9-3 instead of 10-2 and out of the playoff. The SEC could be hoist on its own scheduling petard. Boo Hoo, Right?
  23. A B1G reason for Howard transferring out of K State, he wasn't likely to start. There is a lot of young talent in the Buckeyes QB room but it is very young talent. Will any Buckeyes QB be better than McCord last season? QB could be a comparative weak spot for Ohio State this season.
