Mario Got His OC
Great take. But lateral? From a sold out Big House to a school that plays ball 30 miles from campus? From the B1G champ and a Playoff participant to a school with unrealistic expectations that lives in past glory, that believes Mario is going to recapture the glory? Mario played for Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Ericksen (sp?). Mario is nowhere close to these 2 guys. I wish him continued mediocrity. I don't mean to be petty but what he told Mullens and us regarding the O he was going to run, as Charles has pointed out on numerous occasions, was nothing but male bovine excrement.

Husky Humblings on Recruiting: "This Class is Worse Than Oregon State"
Spot ON! Jen Cohen is a terrible AD who deserves to be fired but will not be fired by the UW female president. Will DeBoer turn out to be a good hire? Maybe? He had fantastic success in the CFB little leagues and put a solid Fresno St team on the field. But his hire certainly did not move the national needle or draw a bevy of quality recruits. Players can be coached up but stars matter. IMO, UW will stink in CFB and CBB as long as Cohen is in charge.

No Respect: The Pac-12 Needs to be Livid
For Pac-12 coverage outside of the conference footprint, DISH is the best. Thanks for the heads up.

Mario Got His OC
Gattis won the Broyles Award award as the top assistant coach in CFB in 2021. The Michigan DC who has also left Ann Arbor and was not far behind in the voting. I think Harbaugh wore these guys out? But if Gattis had problems with the peripatetic Harbaugh, wait until he gets a load of Mario's, 'my way or the highway?' I agree with Charles, this is baffling. If you told me Gattis was off to the Miami Dolphins, OK. But the Canes? The money being thrown Gattis' way has to be $erious. And seriously, losing both coordinators speaks poorly for Harbaugh, very poorly.

Media Rights Question Posed To Wilner By Joseph
Great take Mike. The Cal, UCLA, Stanford approach was fine in the bucolic days of regional college football. Before the BCS and this so-called 'Playoff.' Those days are gone. 'Expand territory and wipe out a competitor at the same time, why would we do that,?' evidences either a completely naive athletics business POV or a completely blase POV. As you so artfully point out Mike, the folks in charge at many the Pac-12 school don't give a whip about big time titles in big time sports. And a number that likely do care do not have the money to compete in CFB at the highest levels of competition. Oregon is blessed with a patriarch who is most certainly a 'sports guy.' Oregon, its graduates, students and fans want the program to be competitive in athletics at the highest levels of play. Many of Oregon's partners simply do not care. Their fans or folks who would normally be fans, such as students attending Stanford, don't care. IMO, Oregon will never win a championship in college football playing with the kind of 'partners' it has in the Pac-12. I can't believe that Phil Knight and I hope, President Schill, cannot see that the situation in the Pac-12 when it comes to football is dire. Because once the media rights are pledged to a new media deal, it will cost a whole lot of money to join the B1G or any other conference. At the very least, if Oregon stays in the Pac-12 it should strenuously object to giving an equal cut of revenue to schools that spend far less on athletics. BTW: UCLA did go 8-4 last season but the Bruins did not defeat a team with a winning record, including LSU. 8 wins against no winners says a good deal about the CFB competition in the Pac-12.

KT's Heart Questioned
Exactly! No player goes through the draft process without being dinged. For the most part, without sound reasoning. I do not want to do the same but I do have a sense that he had some kind of falling out with Mario which was behind his release of the locker room video.

No Respect: The Pac-12 Needs to be Livid
THIS is the contract Larry and friends agreed to that at the time was considered to be a great deal. This is why I advocate for the new deal to have streaming options. FOX owns 51% of the B1G network and operates same. You don't see 'this stuff'' when it comes to B1G CFB and CBB broadcasts on FOX.

Enough Already, Saturday Rant!
It started with the BCS and the greed was doubled down with this BCS x 2. Expand the playoff? I'd rather go back to the Run For the Roses and have the B1G champ play the Pac-12 champ in the Rose Bowl. Co-champions, I could care less. But I'd also like to be able to drive the ball 260+ like I could in the pre BCS x 2 'good old days.'

A Quote From a Newly Reclassified 2022 5* (Possible Duck?)
But for a Pac-12 team to make it, it has to go at least 12-1 (duh) and Oregon has to win at TX TECH in 2023, which is far more likely than winning 'at' Georgia in 2022. I think the QB question for 2022 and into 2023 will be a very interesting one for the Ducks to answer this season and next. I think I am higher on Nix than many of this forum but he is a one and done guy in Eugene.

No Respect: The Pac-12 Needs to be Livid
SSDD. Streaming alternative? No respect? NFL draft guru D Jeremiah's top 50 CFB draft prospects: 6. KT, Edge, Oregon; 8 Lloyd, LB, Utah; 10 London, WR, USC; 13 McDuffie, CB, UW; 22 Gordan, CB, UW. 5 for the conference. Fewer than the number of Bama and UGA guys in the top 50. Where have you gone O and DL guys, Larry Scott turns a lonely eye toward you? I see no reason with the Pac-12 'standing still' expansion-wise, why we should expect to see anything else after the new round of media negotiations form the 'traditional' media. We need GK to be thinking outside of the media box. Otherwise, games will continue to be un-watched on the network and not watched east of Denver 'after dark.' Broadcasting from the studio (before COVID) was the exclusive broadcast method of the Pac-12 network. But interference from 'truck whatever' was not. And 'the Pac-12 guys' decided not to expand into the Central time zone and wipe out a competitor bidding for the same media rights in the process. SIGH!

Great take. THIS, could have been lifted from Justice Kavanaugh's concurring opinion in the Alston case. All of this 'stuff' could be regulated if there was a CFB players union, like in the NFL, to negotiate with 'management.'

Enough Already, Saturday Rant!
You lose 9-0 in the United States Supreme Court + there is no way NIL is going to go. Nor can it be restricted via regulation. This is all due to the NCAA refusing to bend from the 'student-athlete' model and instead spending multi-millions of dollars in legal fees in a futile effort to defend the model and convince justices that CFB at the P5 level is an amateur sport. It's not just football players making money. Twin female basketball players at Fresno State signed a million dollar deal. A number of Olympic sports athletes have signed lucrative deals. However, the intent of NIL is being trashed; NIL is being used as a recruiting tool for HS kids and to sign guys out of the portal. 3rd parties are urging players to enter the portal and get paid. It does make one want to watch football on Sunday and not Saturday. The reason there is a salary cap and restrictions on free agency is due the players having a union that negotiates with management.

Media Rights Question Posed To Wilner By Joseph
The Pac-12 network either needs to find a media partner who will upgrade the network to 'varsity' level, or file Chapter 11 bankruptcy and hope that in a reorganization bankruptcy the existing lease can be crammed down and a viable media partner found; or, file a complete BK dissolution, Chapter 7 and get at least some of the investment back from a sale of the assets including the subscriber's list. The network today is an albatross for the Pac-12. And ASU prez Michael Crow, and the AD and Herm, should all be shown the door at ASU. Crow was the biggest Larry enabler by far. The Pac-12 will get a 'reasonable' package that will be far behind the B1G and SEC deals and continue with Pac-12 after dark.

Media Rights Question Posed To Wilner By Joseph
Great point; yet, I think streaming is where all sports is heading. Hundreds of thousands of people are unplugging and going to a streaming platform(s.) The NFL has turned its schedule over, in part, to Amazon. What could the NFL garner if the NFL network owned all the inventory and instituted pay-to-stream all of its games? I think Amazon is the NFL's beta site. Responding to DUCati855 above, the bars are paying for the inventory via cable. They will if it becomes the go to viewing system, pay for streaming services. Depending on the amount paid for streaming, games will be shown advertisement-free or with far fewer advertisements. Would you pay for an advertisement viewing service instead of paying for cable plus having to watch advertisements? I would. We are in a world of media delivery change. Games streamed during and post game is what I believe is coming on. Access to streaming services is becoming far easier. A tech dummy like I had no problem adding Amazon and Paramount. I think Pac-12 games up and streaming from Friday through Thursday for a base fee and residuals could be very rewarding. I do not believe that ESPN/FOX is going to reward the Pac-12 with the prime viewing windows. I do know that games on the Pac-12 network are watched by very few. I am old enough to recall when CFB went from solely radio to TV. Despite naysayers, the addition of TV added multi-millions of dollars to the CFB coffers.
