  1. I do have a lot more respect about the process Mario is going through than the one slick went through. I will also say I was wrong about if Mario decides to stay he wouldn't have any validity as a recruiter. He could salvage his reputation, I just don't expect that. I just want to see the program move forward and execute an offensive game plan, unlike our offense on the field.
  2. I will also say Mullens gets along with PK, and that is one of the most important ways The Oregon Athletic Department can thrive. As long as Mullens understands this he keeps his job. I can't imagine the potential outcome of this loss will play well with PK. Somebody OK'd this massive offer, and to lose isn't a good thing.
  3. Chasing somebody who doesn't want to be here longterm with money is stupid money, bottomline. Give him until 5:00 tonight or he stays under the old contract because he wants to be here. If he needs more time let him pay for it.
  4. I hope Mullens is just sitting by shaking his head yes on this hire. The last two Florida boys weren't all they were made out to be. Put Kilkenny on a jet and get him to work on finding the next Dana Altman of football.
  5. If we can pull David Aranda back to the west coast then yes. I don't want to see another short term fix who becomes a house fire again. I think the bottomline question is who would do it, could do it quick and do it well in the short term, because we have to save recruiting. Recruiting, right now is critical for the next 4 years of this program. If recruiting this year is gutted, then we suffer, like a team with sanctions. That is basically what Cristobal is setting us up with. I don't think Wilcox should be shackled with one poor season as his ceiling. The guy has integrity, is a good coach and would excel better at Oregon. Aranda would be ideal, west coast guy and I like the way he holds himself. Might seem crazy, but he just has a presence on the sideline I have never seen Cristobal have. Wilcox has the same look to me.
  6. It is amazing Miami gave him a deadline and we didn't? If this is true then Mullens is already dropping the ball. Mullens needs to be putting the next guy in place soon. He also needs to force Mario's hand so he can make a decision. This is business, not some sale on craigslist. Hopefully, and I think this is probably true, Mullens isn't really making the full decision. Smarter minds are making the choice and probably having a lot of the calls made. Mullens has already played his Florida cards and they weren't a winning hand either time.
  7. It really does seem like the logical fix, but what do we know? We do need to hire well, and hire soon. The thought of having no one when the signing period ends, and Mario's assistants poaching our kids doesn't sit well. I will say if I hear we hired somebody from Florida again, I might just kick my dog! I definitely won't be posting what I would be thinking!
  8. Tend to agree, Mario was like a chef who could cook one thing very well. The problem is a restaurant needs many items to make it work. He doesn't have it to make the restaurant really work. He was the elite recruiter from Alabama. He was also the failed coach from FIU, we got both. Miami just hired both, good luck with that.
  9. If true I hope the door doesn't hit him on the way out, actually I hope it does, he falls down the stairs, and then trips into the road and gets run over, twice. There I said it. Wow in a weird way I kind of feel better.
  10. If true then Justin Wilcox just beat sc and has no obligations until next season. I hope we don't repeat the same pattern we have seen too often.
  11. Mario and Manny are one in the same. Miami native Cuban immigrant family Miami legend One thing for sure, if Mario leaves we shouldn't be hiring Manny. I'm tired of resurrecting, building coaches reputations so they can move on to where they want to be. People and organizations tend to repeat the same patterns, hopefully Oregon can just learn from this one.
  12. Joe Brady, Coached one season in college football. Had 1st round draft choice at qb, and WR in 2020 draft. A 1st round draft choice in 2021 draft at WR. He looked really good with that talent. Before and after not so good. I would definitely ask Sean Payton what he thought, but I am skeptical about a one year wonder. Both Coach "O" and Brady are without jobs now that those guys are gone.
  13. Good point, thanks for bringing that clarity to my shortsighted response! I do think my other concept is pretty spot on, we'll see.
  14. If Mario is uncertain it will only take more time to create certainty, and the trend isn't our friend for that certainty. Sometimes fantasy and reality aren't the same, actually often it isn't. Mario spoke about how much he loved Oregon, but now he has a few years of knowing what it is like to live in Oregon and have your home in Florida. He wants to go back is what this process tells me. One of the big allures of Mario to recruits was his integrity and stability, that is shot. He better come back with an even better sales job after this is over or it is over. I just don't see it as from my experience trust is easily earned at first, but is a struggle to get back after losing it. I personally have lost a lot of trust in Mario going forward.
  15. I think getting back on the hiring the next great coach merry go round just leads to a gutted program. Do we want that? I like everything Mario has said, but he hasn't delivered on what he has said. He didn't just add power football to our offense. In my experience people from Oregon say what they mean. I think Wilcox will say what he means and that would be refreshing. I don't want to go through another roller coaster ride with the same end result. We know what happens when the roller coaster ride ends.
  16. Is this what we want to continue to be? Chip from the northeast leaves for the better job, Slick leaves for his dream job, Mario is undecided about going home. It is time to stop this merry go round.
  17. The more I think about this the more I think we should have a campaign to get Wilcox hired. Mullens has already showed he can be swayed by the players, they got Mario hired. How about us fans making the case for an Oregon native, Duck Football Alumni as the next coach at Oregon, if Mario leaves? Oregon has a rich history of producing coaches. From John McKay, John Robinson and even Madden were Oregon Ducks. The problem is none of these guys ended up coaching at Oregon. It is time to see the beauty of what Oregon produces and creates. We produce talent and create winners. Time to take one of our own and make him and us a winner longterm. We should no longer chase after the next shiny thing. I know if Mario leaves I will be writing my two cents to Mullens, even if it is only worth two cents!
  18. I think we have recently hired because of the words, and maybe a bit of the eye test. It is time to hire because of the heart. When you think of who has the heart of Oregon, and can coach there are few choices. Oregon has had connections to many great coaches in the past. USC can thank Oregon for over 230 of their wins from their Oregon connection. Few of this talent has ended up coaching at Oregon. It is time to bring one home so he can make that great history at Oregon
  19. Empty words, could be said about any of the news outlets.
  20. To be clear up to 2019 Wilcox took at 5-7 team which was in disarray and went 2017 5-7 2018 7-6 lost a bowl game 2019 8-5 won his bowl game not too shabby when considering who we have hired in the past. The past two years have been interesting for just about any program even Alabama.
  21. What coach have we hired who wasn't mediocre or unproven? Wilcox improved the Cal program until last year after we stole his DC. He can win and imagine what he would do with support, something he has little of at Cal. Also imagine how he would recruit, and the integrity he would have as the Oregon coach, as an Oregon native, Junction City.
  22. Agree with the Wilcox hire, go all in on Oregon! Hiring Chip could never live up to the expectations, never. Chip was like one of those moments you try and recreate, but it was just a moment, can't be recreated. We shouldn't live in the past, move forward!
  23. With an OC with both feet out the door, and a head coach with one foot out the door it is no wonder we saw what we saw on Friday. Same game plan, not even executed well, right? With Bellotti's staff they, pretty much, wanted to be here. With Mario and his staff they have one foot out the door at all times. It is time to get some coaches who want to be in Eugene. I realize PERS was a big draw, but most want to be close to home. Hopefully Mario begins to look at that more than he has in the past, and Mullens does next time. We can't have another embarrassment like we did against Utah. I only hope we learned a lesson with that game. As great as Mario's recruiting has been, his leaving now is much more damaging to the program. It is time for the Oregon football program to do some longterm planning, soul searching after this one, as it seems to be playing out.
  24. It is clear Mario is taking care of himself, either way. I just want Mullens to take care of The Oregon Football Program, now! Mullens should give Mario a deadline, we love Mario, we don't need to beg Mario, that isn't love, that is desperation. Desperation also comes from the lack of a plan, that is Mullens job. Mullens should be rounding third on an actionable plan for when Mario leaves.
  25. I remember when Bellotti did this to leverage his salary. I didn't like it then, don't like it now. I say give him a sign or see ya date. I don't want Oregon to looked at as begging a coach to stay. Make an actionable plan, have a plan and lead. We shouldn't be begging and waiting. I think Mario realizes the precarious position this puts the Oregon Football Program in. I hope Mullens does too, and is working on a plan. The last thing we need is somebody with their fingers crossed, eyes closed and holding their breath waiting for Mario to make up his decision. The outcome of him leaving is too big to do that.
