New Hires by Ducks and Pac-12 Inspire Hope
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Another way to measure a man is when a crisis happens, or with Mario, when the perceived crisis he called timeouts for happened. You can win a team over and lose a team based on how you deal with the crisis you don't expect. Game time decisions and how he handles the inevitable crisis within the program will better define him. Hopefully he doesn't have any big crisis's soon, but it will happen when you have 85 plus men in your charge their first time away from home. He now has the added benefit of boys away from home with NIL money to spend. Imagine Cliff Harris with NIL money? -
Kickoff Time Set For Season Opener Against Georgia
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The uni's will be just one statement we will see in Hotlanta about how Lanning will run the team. I may not even notice the uni's, there will be so many other things to focus on. Unfortunately it almost seemed like a highlight when Mario was coaching. What would the uniforms be come gameday, because we knew the offense wasn't going to change! -
New Hires by Ducks and Pac-12 Inspire Hope
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I can't see a weakness in the Lanning hire. We have no real data on how he is going to coach on game day, but as long as he doesn't start out calling a timeout I think most will be extremely happy. I think the only problem may be the fan will expect too much after only seeing what he has done without the game clock running. Can the miracle really continue through the season, we can only hope. With George, he has done a very good job of cleaning up the mess. Canzano did a superb job of outlining the problems under Lavish Larry's leadership, or lack thereof. I am not sure we completely understand just how hard the job will be to move forward after cleaning up that mess. The programs seem to be helping. The mistake up with the Lake is over, no more pelting Helton at sc, and Oregon may just have an offense again. With these three moves George just might have some leverage when he actually can do something to help the conference. The heavy lifting is still to come, but he definitely looks much better than the incompetent fool who was before him. -
I'm Getting a Serious Man-Crush on Coach Locklyn...
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It seems the difference, so far, between Campbell and Locklyn is Campbell brought in elite talent and put them in the NFL. Locklyn seems too, in his past job, bring in diamonds in the rough, more like a Kenjon Barner, and turn them into NFL players. Every one of our greatest back in modern program history, except Bobby Moore, were coached by Campbell. Can Locklyn turn one of these guys into a top ten in our program history? Maybe it will take one of his new recruits coming in the future to break into the list. Our previous RB coach, along with the meddler, certainly couldn't develop a draftable product. Run hard straight into where I tell you doesn't cut it. It seems like the backs who are coming in are signing up to be turned into NFL players. They all seem like hard workers with ability to be honed into elite talent. It will definitely be interesting to see what Locklyn produces, and how they fair compared to Campbell wrecking crew over the years. -
NIL World--It's a Full-Blown Race to the Bottom Now
Haywarduck replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
They say 'out of chaos come clarity.' The problem is the clarity may not be what we want to see! -

Agree with all you said and especially what you ended with, what will these coaches do when they have a couple of years of relationship building with the best players of the 2024 and 2025 classes? Throw in some good success on the football field and a “buzz” about the program the other element is the development of talent. It seems that is what is driving the Locklyn's success. He can sell the fact he has put so many players in the NFL. Dowdell could be the back we have been wanting for a while. Donte may be that guy, but I also wonder who Locklyn can bring in after the relationship building and success you speak of. An exciting program will bring back the buzz for playing at the O because we have an O again. Add the D we have seldom had and the future looks extremely bright. So bright I may have to leave my green glasses on all summer!

Sadly that is about when one of the greatest baseball players in all of history become just another mistake of the steroid era. Barry wanted the Chicks to Love his long ball, not just his amazing talent playing the game.

Mai TaiDuck, I love how I never come away wondering exactly how feel about a subject, WELL Done!

If we take care of our own business it will all work out. What we can't do is put up a pathetic team for the playoffs, like we did with the dawgs, the last time the Pac-12 was in. What we can't do is beg for an expansion and then get spanked. If Oregon becomes an elite program again the rest will take care of itself. This is the kind of stuff we have little control over and does cause angst. I love how Lanning and company seems focused on creating a team which will compete with the SEC. The first test will come in Atlanta, and I doubt it will be the last. We just need to make sure we get sharper and stronger each time. That article is just background noise in my book. There is a spot available as is, we need to take care of our business!

Won't go down at first contact, another item I am a little tired of seeing. Bringing back the big back with the stiff arm, love it. For a big back his wiggle and ability to stab a foot in the ground and change directions is exceptional. He runs angry with good power and contact balance rarely going down on first contact.

I hope they lose their last Pac-12 game! I love seeing the sc faithful with hope and then....... bam!

I can't wait to see who they want as their next great qb. The transfers and leftover players from Mario are great, but this is extremely interesting to see the O-lineman, RB's and WR's Lanning, and crew are bringing in as freshman. The O seems to be back in Oregon!

I think the quote says a lot, and speaks to what drives a team. I have little doubt the team didn't listen to Helton, and didn't show much, if any, team leadership. If this is part of the Riley's process, consider me impressed. It is one thing to talk the talk and another to walk the walk, so we will see how it plays out.

Great quote at least, elite teams are led by the players, held accountable by the players. Good teams, they’re led by the coaches, held accountable by the coaches. And the poor teams, there’s nobody that does that. We’ve been trying to be the elite team. So we’ve been having a lot of players step up into leadership roles, be more commanding, have a voice. What is on YOUR Sports Bucket List?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I have too much to do to sit and watch much. I am still training for a few big races and enjoy participating in sports still. I want to do as much as I can until I have to watch. I suppose experiencing some sporting events with friends would be on my bucket list, but not too high. If a friend said they had tickets to a big event, I would make time. My bucket list is still full of things I want to do, not so much see. -
Oklahoma played a lot of close games they should have blown out and lost a couple when it got tough. I think it is a valid observation to say Oklahoma had a casualness to its program. Riley is now head coach at the University of Southern Cali Casualness, he will fit right in. Where talent goes to be respected, underperform and sadly never reach its potential.

I will agree with Drake and raise it one more, no purple or orange ever, and no blue either! Let the student athletes get creative, but certainly put limits on what is acceptable. Nobody should ever wear purple or orange in public! I mean if you really like those colors there are only certain places it is acceptable to wear them, and maybe certain days of the year, like halloween.

That is much like the Saab story I heard in reverse. I guy came to work for a software company, and was told he would be paid in stock options as a signing bonus. He had heard about getting a car as a bonus so he negotiated getting a car instead, quite the negotiator. He got a Saab, instead of Microsoft stock before any splits. Quite the sob story.

After failing the Mustang brand for decades Ford finally did it justice, nice! I had a nice old mustang, and always was interested in the latest models coming out. I actually stopped paying attention as they just kept disappointing, year after year, decade after decade. Hopefully Oregon and Lanning will bring the brand back, and do it justice again too! I suppose that is what Mario is trying to do at Miami. Bring the brand back, not sure that one can be repeated. Saban did it at Alabama, Riley is trying to do it at sc, and the list goes on. Well done on picking up that Mustang!

The old Alfa may be my next one! Love Annie's, women don't often look at the car as an extension of who they are, men.......

Which Freshmen are Playing for the Ducks in 2022?
Haywarduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The main caveat is if a player is only going to be around for 3 years before he is ready for the NFL draft, you play him early. We probably have at least one of those, and if he can get up to speed, you play him often. Agree most players can use some time getting use to college speed and putting on some more weight and strength. I can't imagine losing a season of Noah just to get him more ready for his sophomore season! There are players who just need to be on the field from the start, DAT was definitely another. Can anyone name the players who were ready day one? Maybe Justin should have? -

Was at a hotel in Montana where the wifi password was 67GTO. I asked the guy behind the desk why the password had GTO in it, and he said part of his retirement package was in the barn out back. He showed my his '67 GTO with the #3 stamped on all the parts. The car was up on blocks and all stock, what a muscle car, agree actually one of the best muscle cars.

Resembles my old 2002 BWM, loved that car. Never had this problem with it, thankfully.
