  1. Sorry for taking this sports focused site off topic, but for the slow season what car would you put up there as the best car ever built. We have definitely discussed our favorite Duck teams, what car would you pick, if you could have your choice of any? I love my cars, and right now am without any fun car, maybe I should throw out a bid? Steve McQueen Gave This 1970 Jaguar E-Type to a Chef on the Set of ‘Le Mans.’ Now It’s up for Grabs. WWW.YAHOO.COM The King of Cool gave Fredy Zurbrügg the car during filming, and the chef has owned it ever since.
  2. I think his point is exactly why Nix, was picked up and will start against Georgia. Maybe after the game we will see a shift to one of the new guys, maybe. Georgia not only won that game, but they destroyed DJ for the rest of the season. I think DJ saw the Georgia defense coming the rest of the season, and Lanning doesn't want a rookie having to go against what he knows is coming. I don't think this pundit took the statistic of AB far enough. Our downfield production was anemic, but there were signs of the potential beyond Seven. I will pound the table on Dont'e, again, he will light up college football, along with some other very capable downfield threats. Our passing game will be back, which will also ignite our running game. As long as we don't lose the turnover battle by a wide margin we will stay in the Georgia game. I also like his take on the game against Utah. After we thump the dawgs, Thanksgiving will come early at Autzen. It will be well attended with plenty of stuffing on defense and surprising dishes on offense against the Utes. The last game against the beavs will be a test for Lanning not to have a let down game. The beavs will be ready to make their season by knocking off our Ducks.
  3. Whatever happened to this thinking, a classic! And he said, "Son, this world is roughAnd if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be toughAnd I knew I wouldn't be there to help you alongSo I give you that name, and I said goodbyeAnd I knew you'd have to get tough or dieIt's that name that helped to make you strong"
  4. “There is a reason to panic, because you didn’t have a quarterback in the 2022 class. You now don’t have a quarterback [yet] in the 2023 class. Most of the top quarterbacks out west are either spoken for or leaning elsewhere.”
  5. Flowe seems like the bigger, I mean quicker, threat. Those two along with Lanning's coaching are going to be a nightmare for offenses.
  6. They are all over the town I live in. Same can be said of golf, and those who aren't ready to hit when they get to their ball. One reason why I play little golf. I have to go on the roads, I don't have to deal with people who just aren't ready for what happens next. That is why I love to watch sports. When you see a Brock Purdy make the game of football look like fun it is extremely enjoyable. The problem was that was it against our team. I want to again see one of our qb's school another program, and make it look like fun, not some arduous process. Even watching Mario and the mustache on the sideline wasn't fun. Lanning seems like the kind of guy who knows how to have fun and will bring that back. No stopping, no waiting to figure out what we are going to do, just keep pressing on and enjoying the ride! I want to see the greatest show in college football come back to The Oregon Football Program!
  7. I get frustrated every time somebody stops at a roundabout when they don't have too. I just tell myself at least they aren't quarterbacking my Ducks! The other end is the guy who sees openings no matter what, the turnovers, crashes, don't want that either. There must be foresight, planning, and an understanding of the variables involved. Some just don't have it, frustrating, but true! You do have the wonderlic test and the scores of qb's. An Eli Manning scores a 39, very good, but an instinctual qb like Mahomes, or Farve scores in the low 20's. Does any real metric of football IQ matter other than game day output?
  8. I live in a town with roundabouts, which means you yield to oncoming traffic, but you don't have to stop. Some people can't read traffic and always stop to access a situation before entering a roundabout. To put it simply, a qb can't afford to be the guy who stops when an opening is available. He probably also needs to know how to accelerate out of the roundabout, and I could go on with this analogy. Something a bit less visual is some people can see math. They can do numbers in their head and it is quite amazing when you meet someone who can do this. A qb has to be the guy who can do the math in his head, and see things developing others can't see. A qb has to know what each player is going to do on each side of the ball, and be able to juggle all this movement in his head, while making split second decisions. A qb has to be able to make quick decisions while evaluating lots of information at the same time. This isn't necessary in high school football, so we tend to just look at the big arm, and mobility. These attributes can truly only be seen in live game action. Unfortunately the roundabout and math analogies are only analogies. No one has the perfect test for qb IQ, but you can know when you see it!
  9. I just want us to get better as the season progresses. Not sure how that happens with a win in Atlanta, but will take any we get. If we are talking about 'wants,' just stay healthy, and no key injuries would be huge. That and an improved product at the end of the season are about my only wishes! I will also say a win over Utah and Georgia may not be all that big of a deal by November. Utah hasn't had an off year in a while and is due. Kirby hasn't had an off year at Georgia, but the season after a title isn't easy, stay tuned. Who knows a win up in Pullman might be our biggest win of the early season.
  10. The difference with the sc fanbase and alumni is that they are part of the media. We are just a fanbase and the alumni, for the most part, are just as delusional, but don't write articles, produce radio and tv shows which get a national audience. Let's give FishDuck time to get an audience as big as the 'Herd.' Someday, maybe, FishDuck will be quoted more often than the Herd, but until then we are just the long shot, and that is just the way I like it.
  11. It does come down to development over the summer, and really through the season. The advantage Nix had over the other two is he has been coached by Dillingham before, and knows his system and expectations. Nix not only knows the system, but is mentoring the other two qb's. I look for the two back-ups to get better and to be ready to take over if needed. I think the biggest question is, has Nix reached his peak in development. The book on him, from what little I know, reads, tends to be inconsistent, and makes the stupid mistakes. This is what we saw in the spring game. The most exciting item about the qb position is the unknown about how a qb is going to react as the starting qb on Saturday. Now if a qb isn't ready it can be ugly. We have had some not so ready for prime time qb's and then some, like Herbert recently, who just looked like he was ready from day 1. While Butterfield didn't seem quite there yet, he is the one who seemed to have both the skillset and the poise to surprise many to me. Ty too has a skillset which is enticing, and maybe he will continue to have the lightbulb come on brighter, and illuminate more of the complexities of the game over the summer. Right now I still think the two guys under Nix have the highest upside. I suppose this is also why they are sticking around, they see how they are developing and see the opportunity. Will this continue or will one of the guys separate as they get to know the system, and the complexity of being a starting D1 qb. Right now it seems we are exactly where we were when Nix signed on, that is the crazy thing about where we are today. I suppose the interesting thing to watch will be was Robby Ashford the one who was ready to take over? Did he have the magic, 'Mario don't throw downfield,' couldn't see? I wish him luck, but hope he wasn't the A1, but who is!
  12. I suppose Brenner should have just bought a house adjacent to a golf course and sued for golf balls hitting his yard?
  13. I have never had success telling my wife to stay calm, but there is always the surprise, better late than never.
  14. In this article Seven claims he can run a 4.3 40. This would be in line with what a Barry Sanders ran. DAT didn't run that fast at the NFL Combine, but also looked faster than the 4.5 he posted. My take is Seven is more of a Barry Sanders type weapon, who is just tough to get a hand on. If anyone can have the football speed, and open field vision of DAT, that would be amazing. My take is we have some weapons coming off the bench this season the previous staff was afraid to use. I think this staff knows speed kills. Oregon Running Back Seven McGee Connects with De'Anthony Thomas for Advice on Expanded Role - Sports Illustrated Oregon Ducks News, Analysis and More WWW.SI.COM The freshman running back could be in line for more carries after Verdell's injury
  15. I think Donte would have those stats if he had gone to community college and had a qb who could get him the ball. This kid does look special, runs a 10.4 100 yd. and can long jump 25'. Maybe he could be entice by the new Hayward? Will that be the difference maker. I can only imagine it will make the difference with some track talent who can catch and run!
  16. Agree a Linebacker with speed is a nightmare, and we have a few. The real horror for a defense is a guy with speed and height at wide receiver. Fortunately a guy with both of those attributes won't be just sitting on the sideline this year. Donte Thornton 6' 5" and runs a 4.43 40 yd dash. Defenses better have a safety ready to help or you won't have to look much further than number 2 for the next explosion play. A qb who can throw downfield and a speed wideout is all we need to blow up a defense and open up the field. Last season he had 9 receptions and 2 touchdowns, along with 175 yds. I look for those stats to blow up this season. He will begin to get the attention on and off the field he deserves!
  17. To all the women who participate, and make this board a much better place, Happy Mother's Day.
  18. Water may annoy many, as it comes down, but if the region you live is running a deficit that might not end well. I have no idea how Phoenix and the southwest keeps building in places where there just isn't water to support those who are there. Seems to be the mantra of many, the next guy can worry about it. I can't get enough of the rain where I live. The best rain is in Hawaii. You can always tell the difference between the Californian and Oregonian visiting. The Californian runs for cover when it rains, the Oregonian just shrugs, and keeps on doing what they were doing. I suppose the same in the southwest, those from Phoenix are just used to the extreme heat and deal with it, good for them. Playing football in that kind of heat and practicing in that heat would be too much. To each his own, I suppose.
  19. You're welcome here and thanks for sharing, but I am just not buying it.
  20. I mentioned Helfrich's house sold a while ago, have no idea about it's availability.
  21. Wait a minute Butch Davis also coached Miami and went 51-20 with sanctions hanging over the program after Erickson left. At FIU he had a better record than Mario with, of course, a better winning percentage. Butch is a good comparison, and Mario would do well to go 51-20 and go 4-0 in bowl games. My prediction is Mario won't do as well as Butch Davis, much like he did at FIU. Butch Davis also took over a dumpster fire at FIU, both took over decent programs at Miami. Davis definitely brought in some talent to Miami at the time. Time will tell who does better.
  22. It is interesting I come away amazed and unconfused when reading dazeNconfused posts. I tend to agree Mario is a good coach, and could be very good with the right personnel. That would include a Derrick Henry type running back, and those don't grow on trees. My main skepticism is his statement about investment in facilities which will make Miami a program which can measure up to any University. I don't know if he is creating a scapegoat for underperformance or most likely, just telling the fanbase what they want to hear. I tend to think he is just telling the masses what they want to hear because they aren't getting a stadium anytime soon. I will say most Duck fans weren't too surprised at the, seemingly, difficult time he had filling assistant position. Mario actually pulled that one off. So who knows maybe Mario will actually amaze both the Cane faithful and the Duck skeptics. I know where I sit, and am very comfortable right where I am, ain't going to happen!
  23. Interesting take on the RB position. We have a load of RB's and if we get a superstar who takes over early we may see quite a few transfers next season. For now, we have 8 guys, counting walk-ons, competing for one rock. Whoever wins the opportunity to carry the rock will probably stay around, but if we get someone who steps in front of the other 7, say goodbye to quite a few.
  24. Great point, these men brought in like minded young minds and those minds were nurtured into forces of nature. I think the whole background of Oregon Athletics and what make the Athletic Department and Oregon Sports special is a fascinating topic. Agree they were and still are inspiring, as long as the Athletic Department stays true to what made it great. I think we have gotten back to those basic foundational principles with Coach Lanning, finally!
  25. I do mean what I wrote, if you watched Pre run live, and also saw the Kamikaze Kids at the time, you were forever changed!
