What Taggart did was realize what any good recruiter would have. Oregon isn't hard to recruit too. Sadly we had feeble recruiting up to that point. I won't give him as much credit as blame to the previous few staffs, they were pathetic. Sorry I have to disagree on this one. We now a great recruiter, and arguably a guy who knows how to do the rest, finally!

OBD Lands 2022 5-Star Josh Conerly Jr.!
Haywarduck replied to Viking Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm just pissed we didn't have this elite recruiter last season, maybe we would have landed JTT! -
Correct, but my take is Bo will be gone if he has a great season. Who knows though, just one scenario. Noah, Bo and others may be gone after this season.

Don't forget the transfer from the sinking ship up north too. Well done DanLan and the team of recruiters! Welcome to the family Mr. Conerly! -
Riley Schedules USC Practices so he can Watch Tiger at The Masters

Tiger is one of the ultimate competitors. He could hold all the records, but seems to thrive on making things even more challenging. He changed his swing after winning the Masters by 12 strokes! Who does that? His competitiveness is must watch tv. -
So Bo goes for the Heisman, and then Ty or Butters takes over next year, it would seem? We are again, qb U, and our offense is back, love it!

Maybe the Interference Call was WRIGHT?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That game was one of many wake up calls about this team, and the coaching staff. I have nothing, but a view in my rear view mirror on that game. There are certainly other games I don't mind putting on the big screen. -
That Sucks: Pac-12 Play-Callers Rated...
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I completely agree Jonathan Smith is the sage on the sideline and doesn't get enough respect. The question is how much of a sage is DanLan going to be? I tend to think DanLan is going to elevate his coordinators, with will be in stark contrast to our recent past. I also love seeing us as the long shot, just where we thrive! -
I think it might be good to give them a template they just put their name on, much like they do for the papers due in many classes. I, name here, think I am different than the 75% stuck in the portal with no scholarship or NIL money. I am choosing to go to a school with more/less (choose one) competition because I think I will thrive in that environment better. My choice comes after consulting my coach/parents/homies/other schools/agent (choose all that apply). I realize this will be a huge decision and look forward to living with the consequences of this choice. My choice is mainly based on academics/athletics and I have a clear, opaque, completely clueless idea about how my future will play out. I want to thank myself, my coaches, a host of people I have no idea their motives, for helping me with this decision which will impact me greatly over my lifetime. A wise man can learns more from fools that fools from the wise, well done Mr. Smith. I would be careful around any nuggets I picked up from a dawg ;)!

He is the qb coach and said it was really close. Follow up question, who was yes and who was no. I would have to say Cristobal had the final say, but I am still left wondering who made, or didn't make the decision to play Ty? I do completely agree with his conclusion on the qb's. Ty is going to be lights out when the game slows down and he seems to be getting there. I also think Butterfield is going to be an amazing qb if he sticks around and plays back-up. We won't have a worry in the world with him as the back-up after Nix leaves. I also am impressed with Nix and think we are set up with an amazing qb group going forward. The question is what is going to happen going forward? I personally don't see Butters sitting for a couple more years. He is going to be ready to lead a program at least next year, not as the third option.

UO, UW Among the Schools to Reward Good Grades for Athletes

Don't forget the course on 'The Boys in the Boat' now open to the football team as the movie is coming out, reading no longer required. Also the study of purple characters on the big screen including Barnie, Boo in Monsters Inc., and of course Tinky Winky in Teletubbies. The final includes which character do you identify with and why. -
Special Connection to Lanning Kept Manning at Oregon
Haywarduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Interesting Dontae said Oregon was his school, but DanLan was his coach. Just shows elite student athletes do still dream of coming to Oregon. Dontae was a 5* recruit who picked Oregon, not because of the coach, wanted to be a Duck. A kid from half way across the country chose Oregon over Georgia because he wanted to be a Duck, nice! The coaches just have to keep knocking on the doors and seeing who wants to live the dream. Who wanted to be a Duck, but nobody every asked, gave them the opportunity. Back in the Helfric era, how many Dontaes never got the opportunity to say yes? -
What? Hottest Day of the Year Expected Tomorrow, Followed by Snow!
Haywarduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Reminds me of how someone once explained the average temperature to me. The average temperature is the way you walk down the trail when on a hike. The actual weather is the route your dog takes. Sometimes he comes back to visit, but most of the time the dog is off, way off average, trail running around. The next couple days he is taking the real scenic route! -
Does Oregon Need to Have An SEC Mindset?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It makes me wonder if there is a way of qualifying recruits who might be interested in coming to Oregon. I suppose the most important question is, interested and would be resilient enough to stay and excel? I know in sales there are hot leads and cold leads. Salesmen go after the hot leads and make sales. What makes a recruit a hot recruit for Oregon. There are probably plenty of recruits who just want to see the best facilities in all of college football. Oregon needs to bring onto campus guys who truly would be interested in coming to Oregon, not just looking around. It use to be hard just to get recruits onto campus. Now, it would seem, it is hard to figure out which guys are really interested in coming to Oregon and being a Duck or just want to check it all out. Tough job, and expectation for all these coaches and recruiters, that is for sure. -
Sure seems to be a lot of talk about Ty lately. Butterfield is also a fascinating prospect. He is an honor roll student and seems to have a lot of Justin's traits to him. Butters just seems a little less mature, I suppose. Justin, sometimes came across that way with his lower burn rate, but he, like Butters, are intelligent guys with the tools. I hope the game slows down for all these guys and they get a good shot at showing what they can do. Time will tell, but I am sure there will be lots of twists and turns along the way.

Does Oregon Need to Have An SEC Mindset?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Let me double down on what our strength is, our facilities and being a small school. While I agree Autzen isn't going to sell out a 100,000 seat stadium, but we aren't a big school. We would be above Vanderbilt in enrollment in the SEC, but at the bottom of those schools. We aren't trying to mask our smaller school vibe, that is a strength. We can't compete with Texas ATM, at 47 undergraduates, nor U of South Carolina at 25k students. We also don't have a major metropolitan areas around Eugene, but that is our strength. It is also why WSU sometimes does well. There are kids, and parents who want to get away from the major metro areas. If we hit those kids hard we will come away with enough 4 and 5 star talent. That is what brought DAT, and others. The other area is our innovative schemes and reputation. If DanLan brings that back we can win it all and preserve our reputation as the best small school environment, with The Best facilities. I will add if we try and compete with for a kid who is swayed by Texas ATM, we will undoubtedly lose 9-10 times. We aren't a big college and that should never be our sales pitch, and I am sure it isn't. You can do big things at the U of O, but you won't have to deal with the big problems of the metro areas. Pound for pound, it means more, here in Eugene Oregun! -
Does Oregon Need to Have An SEC Mindset?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think what Kenny is speaking to is the dedication to making Oregon a place where recruits want to come to. You are right we are at a disadvantage when it comes to location to talent. We are at an extreme advantage when it comes to a place where student athletes want to come to play, live and compete. Nobody west of Texas is even in the top 20 in facilities, except Oregon at #1. This is an advantage for the student athletes who want to, or are willing to leave home to play football, or really any sport. The Oregon Athletic Programs are evidence of this advantage. Look at our basketball program and how they rank in recruiting. Look at our facilities for Track and Field, and the whole University academic facilities. Oregon is the most impressive place to come learn, and compete in the country. Slick didn't invent this, Mario didn't make this, they just realized it and leveraged it. This is what Kenny is talking about. It is a competition for the kids who are willing to leave their hometown, home state, and we can dominate this group, with effort, and intention. When it is said, 'it just means more' it does mean more, we have put more money, and effort into it than any program in the nation. We have built it, and they will come, if we have the staff that both realizes the advantage we have, and puts a product on the field student athletes want to be part of. The Old Oregon was just that, we have to become that again, and DanLan is bringing it back! -

Travis Dye on Transfer to USC: "It was Tough"
Haywarduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I just hope his wife doesn't read too much into what he said. “It was tough. Oregon was my first love and it always will be,” Dye said. “But it was just I gave everything I could to that school for four years straight and it was time to move on.”
