Log, my friend, I get it. But nothing makes for a better fan experience than winning games.

To do that today you have to be a terrific recruiter and a terrific portal picker. Managing an NFL roster today pales in comparison to managing a big-time CFB roster. For the most part, 3* QBs who step up from G5 and lower-level P4 programs will make their bones in the lesser programs and get paid when they move up. Like moving up from baseball AAA to the Bigs.

Do I like this? No. But this is the big-time CFB world in which we live.

One things for sure,  college football isn't turning back. Hope the trade off is titles

Should he sign Oregon it will be interesting to see how he acclimates.  Stein's offense is always marketed as "quarterback friendly"...if Moore does better in Eugene that might reflect that either Moore/Kelly offense was a bad fit or Kelly's Bruin offense may not be as good as advertised.

Bruins O wasn't good. For sure. Moore was part of that. He is young so he gets a mulligan.

If Oregon lands Moore. Sure hope they can develop him. If Ducks have to go to the portal in 25', high school QB's are going to notice.

TT was really more a victim of circumstance

I agree 100%. He got stuck behind a Heisman finalist. Now Oregon has landed another probable Heisman finalist. Oregon jumped on it as they should have.

If I am honest about it, both Oregon and Ty play a role in this imo. Both parties should own their part. It's easy to put it all on Ty. But Ducks own some of this.

I can and have gotten out in weeds in defense of Ty. He has gotten kicked around a bit and that bothers me. But hey, if you can't kick a man when he is down, when can you kick him?

So I want to say thanks to Ty Thompson. He showed up for work and worked at work. I celebrate a man like that. He makes it super easy to cheer for. So that is what I will do.

Why does their existence matter to us?

It doesn't. I does matter to them though. And their response and actions reflect that. It can be simplified to fear and Beavs have chosen to fight because they have no other options.

I can't blame them. If Ducks were in their shoes we would probably see the same.

  5. Beavs are in fight or flight mode. Ducks were in the same, got a life line and chose to fly. Beavs were left no choices in the matter. Their existence depends on it.

I don't know if they are right or wrong. At this point it doesn't really matter how they got here. What matters to them is survival.

Hopefully, if they survive, they will look back, inventory the situation and fix whatever it is that put them in a jamb.

And Haulin ... I feel your pain on this as well. The professionalism of the college game is hard to watch, and its still too early in the TP era to know how all of this will eventually shake itself out. I guess I'm invested enough to sit and watch it unfold before making any major decisions. I do find myself watching more High School sports than ever before, so that may be part of the reason why.

In a few short years college football has compleatly changed imo. It no longer resembles amatuer sport. Ushered in is the pitfalls and realities only present in professional sports.

What I have been a fan of all these years is the college game. The game I have been a fan of doesn't look like the game we have today. Of course it it still football but...

To me, it's concerning where all this is headed. I haven't embraced the changes because it's all happening so fast. I haven't had time to process it all.

The Ducks will thrive in this new environment. They have the HC and coffers to win in this new landscape. There is a price to pay though, and that cost is what is causing me delay in embracing the new realities of college football. I am not a win at any cost type

Like I said, I am a fan of college football and the Oregon Ducks. Others can throw that into question if they choose. The truth is that my concerns are grounded in substance. I am not going to drink from the chalice just because the Ducks benifit.

I was a fan of my ex-wife at one point. But it changed into something unrecognizable to me. College football no longer appears to be the same as what I was in love with just a few years ago.

  7. I don't really know what to make of it all. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Oregon has an excellent lead salesman in Lanning and a huge cash drawer in Division Street.

Amateur football is dead at division 1 level. Not sure if I am interested. Time will tell. I will definitely try and look at more of the div2 games next year.

I do believe TT took too long to develop.  He looked better this year.  But the standard is high when it comes to reaching the playoffs and winning a title.

Can we honestly say TT can make plays consistently, be clutch damn near all the time, and bring OBD back from 11 and  17 point deficits against a top five team?

I just don't see that.  I'm not quite sure he can even "jump in the F1 and drive it like a seasoned Indy car vet".

Do you think MC and Oregon had something to do with that? Look at TVD and Herbert under MC.

TT also had a Heisman candidate brought in a take opportunity from him.

What bothers me is a lot of people are borderline dumping on Ty. I think Oregon more than Ty had something to do with his lacking development.

Oh well, everyone is moving on now.

TT and any players leaving thru the TP had their chance(s) to earn those coveted starting spots. They didn't!

TT had 26 games, including spring ball, fall camp and weeks of practice to suplant Bo. I petsonally cant support those who feel he didn't get a fair shake.

TT didnt feel he could beat out Dillion Gabriel, so he hit the TP.

Wow! TT is no longer a Duck so I guess he is fair game. I don't think TT got a fair shake, but it's cool.

  10. Gabriel can play, make no mistake about that. Can he be at the level Nix played at Oregon? I think so but he doesn't have that second year in the system Bo was afforded.

Gabriel is a top 5 in college football. He has played a ton of football. 50ish games. DG will have some big dudes protecting him and some elite talent to throw the ball to. He will also have a D capable of protecting a lead.

I think QB's in the future will naturally gravitate to the Fresno's and Boise st of CF. Get a couple years of development then TP out to a power 2.

I realized this morning an interesting difference in my respose to Oregon landing an absolute dude at QB.

With Nix I was jacked when he announced. Most QB's before him also. I don't have much of an emotional response to the "hire' of Gabriel.

Could be my disappointment with the Thompson development. Could be the "hired hand" development, IDK. Interesting though.

I'm going to argue that DL and his chosen OCs have and are developing QBs. Case in point is Bo Nix, who elevated his game in the two years he was here. It took the right system(s) for him to excell but I believe that Nix would be the first to say how much he benefited from the coaching.

Stein is a former player at the position at Louisville and brings a QB perspective as an OC. Although TT didn't work out and hopefully will find success elsewhere, I think we all saw the improvement in his game under Stein. If Moore elects to transfer in, all the mentoring and coaching is in place to develop his considerable talent. If not, Novosad, Moga and then AKS2 are in the wings.

Dan Lanning and his staff haven't had enough time to show they can develope a QB. They have shown they can put an established QB in position to be successful. Auburn was unable to do that with Nix.

Lanning gave Nix a top 5 O line, top 5 receiving corps, top 5 RB room. That took a ton of pressure off Nix he didn’t have with AU.

So far, Lanning hasn't taken a non-starting QB and turned him into a power 5 starting QB on an elite team. Partly because he has only been on the job for 23 months. So the jury is still out in my opinion.

I can't say definitively that Lanning and his staff have shown to excel at QB development. They have made QB's better for sure. All QB's in the room are better than they were last season.

To me, taking a player out of high-school and developing him into an elite power 5 starter will be required before I can credit this staff on QB development.

It's not a knock on the Oregon coaching staff. They just haven't had that tested at this point. Talent evaluation and acquisition? Lanning gets an A+.

  12. The opportunity to sign Dillon Gabriel is a no brainer in my opinion. It gives the Ducks perhaps the best chance to be competitive at the highest level going into the B1G.

Much like the Nix signing in 22', this is most likely a game changing "hire". Going from an unknown but hopeful in TT to a known commodity in Gabriel takes a lot of pressure off this team and staff.

Gabriel is an elite level QB that had the Sooners in the National conversation for a moment. He was in the Heisman conversation  until he Suffered a head injury v. BYU.

Okie dropped a couple games after the injury that took him out of the Heisman race and Sooner out of a playoff run. But this dude can play.

For Oregon to be able to reload at the QB position so quickly says something about Oregon and this Lanning team. The Nix "hire" in 22' and what Nix was able to do here will pay dividends for years.

Elite QB's will want to be a part of that. I think Oregon will become a school known to put QB's in 1st round draft status in the future.

The rumors on Donte Moore are interesting. Landing Gabriel and Moore in the TP and signing Smith Jr could set up Oregons QB room for the next 5 years. Hope Lanning can develope QB position (yet to be seen) and Akili Smith Jr becomes elite.

Lastly, I wish TT all the best. I am rooting hard for the guy and was hoping he would get his shot at Oregon. I hope he takes what He learned from Nix and Oregons staff and kills it next year.

  13. Ty needs to run as far away from Mario as possible. That said, I hope Ty finds a solid team and a starting roll. Dude got shafted in my opinion. I will root for the Ducks and Ty Thompson to dominate next year.

Good luck to you young man. Hope you put second thoughts in Lanning head next year

...but the game never seemed to slow down for him to read the defense, make changes at the LOS, rapidly go through his progressions and use the pocket to his advantage.

I know this is a popular opinion but again... I have to disagree. IMO, the only thing Ty  lacking is snap count. He has never gotten on the field this year for meaningful, prolonged drives. How could he with Bo Nix sitting in front of him. But Ty's numbers are solid this year

Last year Ty got in the game when Bo got injured and it wasn't pretty. It seems that sceen has been played on a loop in fans minds ever since.

Last year came in the wake of Mario's staff being the development of Ty as a QB. Everyone here knows what that is. Look at TVD and Herbert as an example. One goes to the league and balls out, the other goes from frosh of the year to... Meh!

Ty Thompson has gotten a raw deal. DL is paid $7m a year to win football games. Can't blame him for grabbing an experienced asset in Gabriel. But no matter how you slice it, it craps all over Thompson.

The education slant doesn't really play. TT is a former 5* who didn't get developed by MC and got stuck behind Nix. Massive bummer. But if education is the prize, Ty could have done the same thing at UW or Furd. Heck, He probably would have started at  Furd or OSU.

So the bottom line for me is Ty Thompson got short strawed. It's unfortunate for sure. But I am not going to sit here and say the guy can't play. That just adds insult to injury. The guy can play, I have no doubt about that. I bet his teammates have no doubt either.

I hope Ty goes and finds a starting role on a good team in 24'. Hope he catches lighting in a bottle and gets an invite to NY next December. Then secures himself a first round contract in the League. He has all the skill set and size to do exactly that.

Don't know what else Lanning and Oregon could have done, but man, what a raw deal for the man.

  15. I mentioned both Moore and Gabriel landing in Eugene the other day. It sounds ridiculous. But wow, It just might happen. Thats would be crazy.

What does Oregon do about Akili Smith Jr? Seems it would lay out nicely. Gabriel is 1 and done. That gives Moore a year to learn and develope befor getting 2 years starting. That puts Smith in line to start after 2 years development coming into his soph year.

If Lanning plays this right the QB room is set for the next 5 years. Fingers crossed.
