He has yet to demonstrate he can see the field at the college level.

Ty Thompson does have a 77% completion percentage. Limited snaps, I get it but that demonstrates an ability to see the field imo.

Even Bo has locked onto a reciever and threw a bad ball. On one play Bo locked in and missed a wide open Bryant that would have converted on 4th down. Oregon lost that game and had he found Bryant Ducks go victory formation.

We as fans see a fraction of what all of these players do. We only get Saturday's. 99.9% of Thompsons work has been done in closed practices, the locker room and the film room.

If the coaches think a more game time experienced QB is what they want or need, I support that. They would know much more than me about it.

It appears that what TT needs is snap count. If Ducks take Dillon, TT will run out of eligibility before he sees the field. Times up for Ty and it would be foolish for him to stick around. I hope Lanning has the integrity to tell him as much.

  2. Moore stated he wanted to go where he would be developed. A year behind Gabriel would do exactly that.

If both come to Oregon, Lanning needs to man up and let Ty know the moment he finds out. Ty deserves at least that. I have no doubt Lanning will go all in for making sure Ty is in a good situation

If I was a 5* QB in todays reality i would go to a mid major for 2 years and play. Hit TP and cash checks.

Ty Thompson is not a B+ QB. He has no field general presence.

Ty hasn't gotten the meaningful minutes with the ones to make such a definitive claim. IMO

With the 2's Ty is compleating 77% of his passes, has 4 TD and his one INT isn't on him. He is also avg 6 yrds per rush. Dude is 6'4" 225lbs.

Players on the team claim a different narrative and say he is a Dude. Ty is going to ball out somewhere, if not at Oregon I hope it's not in the B1G.

  4. Edit: I posted this elsewhere but it fits better here

The pressure to win is "Now". Year in and year out. HC's get paid millions to win. The leash is short. Ducks pay theirs $7m.

The portal give coaches an out from having to develop a QB. Why risk a losing season and millions of dollars when you can just poach another QB from the portal.

If one of the QB's Oregon has on their roster isn't ready, thats on the coaches. Some of them have all the skills to be elite and the coaches haven't performed in developing them to take over the starting roll?

So it the belief that Oregon has to go to the portal... again. What is this? The third time in a row? Why can't Oregon coaches, 2 different staffs and several OC's, develope a QB at a high level?

If Oregon has to go the road of the mercenary, QB's will eventually stop coming. These kids were recruited by these coaches and IMO, failed by these coaches.

They choose Oregon over XYZ on a belief they will be prepared to reach their highest level. That has not happened since MM, Herbert was underserved by Oregons coaching staff.

At some point I hope we can find a coach that can develope a QB. It's only Lannings second year and Steins first, so jury is still out. 🤞🤞🤞

These are just my thoughts and opinions. Most importantly, they are subject to change.

  6. Both coaches are good coaches imo. DeBoer has seen a ton more games as HC than Lanning has. That is a difference maker.

Lanning has a high ceiling that will take a few years to get close to. At least I hope he does. I also hope he stays at Oregon long enough to reach that cealing.

As for this game, and this is just my opinion. DeBoer played Lanning like a cat and mouse.

DeBoer knew exactly how Lanning was going to play this right from the start. KD made adjusments all week and smacked Oregon in the mouth coming out of the gate.

What leads me to believe Lanning has the chops is the way he adjusted and countered to overcome a 17 point deficit. Not an easy task against a top 2 team in the country.

DeBoer is a brilliant coach though. Adjusted in the end and got the last laugh. He had his team ready from the start and played this out brilliantly. Checkmate.

I tip my hat. Offer a congratulatuons and at the end of the day...

Bo mentioned post game that he was looking forward to the flight home from Vegas, just to have one more with this team. Dude loves college football and his team, and knows that there is no going back once it's over. He's living his way.

At least once in the cinematic recaps he can be heard telling teammates to take in the sights and sounds and cherish the experience. He seemed to really enjoy and appreciate the ride, and now he wants to experience one last collegiate game. I respect that.

This is a great insight on Bo. I respect Bo's decision from this view point. I still think the risk is too high but I am not the one at risk. If I was Lanning, I would bench Bo and let him call plays from the sideline.

  8. Liberty is going to come out with their hair on fire. This is the biggest game in Liberty history. They will be looking to hit anyone and everyone in their way. They will bring juice, violence and aggression. This game means everything to Liberty.

Flip the coin, this game has zero impact on the Ducks season. Win or lose Ducks gain nothing. I don't see how risking millions to a possible career ending injury in a game that means little is a smart decision.

I see I am standing alone on this. Thats ok. I hope Bo escapes this unscathed and goes into the NFL a high 1st round pick. I have seen enough of Bo and it has been a blast. I don't need to see "one more for the team" when the risk/reward doesn't balance out.

So I hope the 2023 Oregon Ducks will show up motivated to play in this game as it will be Liberty's Super Bowl and they are good enough to embarrass a Duck team with multiple important opt-outs.

Ducks didn’t show up motivated to play UW in a conference championship game. I doubt they are juiced for this one. Right now I am a lean for Liberty to beat Oregon.

If TT doesn't transfer out and Ducks get beat by Liberty due to lack of juice by the entire team? Wow.

  10. Lol... Ducks might not finish in the top 10. If Ducks beat liberty by 30 folks will roll their eyes. If it's close or Liberty wins. Folks will point and laugh. No team in the top 7 are dropping below Oregon, win or lose.

This will be the biggest game in Liberty history. They will come to play. Ducks on the other hand...

Pretty hilarious if I am an opposing fan base. Ducks got humiliated by Husky for a half. So Oregon made its own bed.

Stephen is one of the greatest Duck fans, ever, and one of the biggest proponents of this forum. He also has a dry wit, that I love like nobody else.

But when you have been an attorney for umpteen years as he has, professional training, and natural, negotiating skills, kick in. I understand his choices…

I don't see it. A Duck fan picks the Husky to win in a championship game over the Ducks? With nothing at risk? Yea, that one is over my head for sure.

But in the spirit of this forum I will just say congratulations and move on.

But this season has illustrated that there is no dominant team and that the any of the top seven or eight could have potentially won out.

IMO, this will become the norm. With TP and NIL you can add 4 to 6 more teams to the top of the CFB food chain. Great timing for a 12 team post season. College football should be congratulated on having the foresight to see it in advance.

  13. I just hope Ducks make a NY6 game. Only for the reason it gives Oregon another month of practice. Clearly the Ducks need as much as they can get imo. Especially the coaching staff imo.

I would love to see Kirby and Dan face off again. Due to most stars sitting out it would be 2's v. 2's for the most part. That would be interesting imo.

I would also like to see Nix sit out and see Thompson get the nod. UGA has very good depth and their two's would be good competion to see how TT stacks up. The game is meaningless unfortunately. Only pride is on the line.

Ty Thompson might not be available either though. If Oregon gets a portal QB, and this is only my opinion to be clear, Ty should absolutely jump into the portal immediately. No reason for him to stay at Oregon at that point imo.

Ducks could find themselves without a viable QB in this game. The freshman haven't really played but a few snaps and I don't think any have thrown the ball in live game reps.

I will watch the bowl game but this season is disapointing imo. Ducks won 11 games but lost. I can't categorize Ducks as a 'great' team as a result. They are very good and right on the cusp. But imo, 'great' means something. 'Great' is a tear above where the Ducks sit right now.

On to 24' where I will cheer for Oregon as enthusiastically as I did in 23'.

    GO DUCKS!

This is crazy to say… but losing on Friday is better in my opinion than winning and being left out of the CFP by the committee. We will never know what they would have done but that would have ripped our hearts out.

IMO... losing is not better than winning... ever... under any circumstances. And losing to the Husky? Sorry, but that is never ok.

I will agree with you on the point you made saying "This is crazy..."

    Guys,

I could see all 22 players all game.  The defense got beat because the formations they played Lent to mismatches.  You could actually see some of that in the highlights.

For instance, as I said last night, on third and goal at the two yard line, up 4, we lined up in a 5-2 I believe.  They had 8 on the line of scrimmage.  That is a natural mismatch.  Before the play began I pointed that out and said Washington would easily score.

Every time they ran outside, the side they ran to had a mismatch because we were stacking the other side of the formation ( the side with their TE).  I didn't have a problem lining up on their TE side, I had a problem with the formation.  Oregon State did the same thing but under center.  The formation we used against Oregon State was what I - Mike West would do.

I would have forced them to pass, go zone, and used the blitz packages that worked so well all year. I also believe the coaches were so worried about pass defense, they didn't respect their running game ( which the Fuskies actually focused more on after they played us- they correctly assessed they would need it against us- we miscalculated what they were going to do).

Furthermore, it was obvious we couldn't press the WRs at the line of scrimmage, nor keep up with them down the field.  That required immediate trashing of our game plan versus their scheme.  I thought the CBs would play better, but with McMillan back, it was a clear mismatch.  I (again this is just me, but I don't believe in a game plan that goes further than the first quarter, I believe you play " streetball- call what you are playing against".  That's what those 287 plays in your playbook is for).

When we trashed the game plan on offense, we scored.  We only did that once in the fourth quarter on defense, and they called a fade route inside the ten yard line( we had the perfect formation to defend the run and pass on that play, then went back to a pass oriented formation they exploited).

    It was frustrating to watch.

I believe the reason Lanning stuck to his guns is because everything worked all year- and worse, we lost by three both games.  So I'm not sure strategy will change.  I'm a firm believer you play to the tempo and flow of the game and adjust as you go.  That calls for calling the first quarter based on what you believe will happen in the game, and call the rest of the game according to how the game flows.

    Coaches rarely do that.

Ironically, Vince Lombardi's "Gentleman, this is a football" comes to mind for me.  He taught fundamentals.  Repeat the same play till you perfect it.  I agree with the fundamentals part.  Yet I believe you take what they give you, and you take away what they succeed at.  For me, that requires knowing football beyond your own strategy and philosophy of the game.

There's obviously more to it than that and that would require a ten thousand word essay no one would read.

Overall, I'm disappointed, but I'm proud of this team.  They didn't play well and they still only lost by three- and yes for me- the game was how it ended- it wasn't simply they dominated- we just didn't respect the conditions on the ground and still played well enough to lose by three.

So you are saying Lanning has a Deboer problem? I agree with you 💯. DeBoer is a top 5 coach and he coaches the huskys. Lanning is inexperienced and gets exposed by guys like Deboer. Lanning will get better in time.

  16. Bottom line in my opinion... line play. The Ducks got smoked on both sided of the ball in the trenches. They played soft and got beat. Thats been the narrative for years and thats what lost this game.

Penix did what he wanted most playes. Had all day in the pocket. Huskies possessed and controled the ball a whole Q longer than the Ducks.

Huskies came to play and thats what they did. Huskies are 13-0 and conference champs because they wnated it more. This game wasn't as close as the scoreboard shows.

  17. In my opinion, Husky came to play from the jump, Ducks didn’t.  Ducks got flat out whooped by a better team and better coaching.

Ducks aren't ready for the big boys yet. I thought they were but I was wrong. It was obvious Washington is the better team.

Physically, emotionally and mentally Oregon was out classed.
