  1. It is a pay site, but here are some nuggets: When did you first start to suspect the conference was headed down a troubling path? Which other athletic directors shared your concerns? ...initially, it was Utah’s Chris Hill, Oregon State’s Bob De Carolis, a couple of others and me. One of the first surprises was when we found out that the ADs and presidents/chancellors would no longer meet together. We finally pushed for time together at least once a year, but the narrative in the room was often controlled by only a few voices. ... spending on the conference office and the move to downtown San Francisco...When asked to review the expenses for the new conference offices, we were not given any pertinent information. The other red flag was when we were given high, medium and low financial projections for the Pac-12 Networks — and none of them were ultimately met. ...were never given a clear answer on revenues vs. expenses, no matter how much we pushed. What was your reaction to USC and UCLA announcing they were leaving for the Big Ten? ...disappointed but only slightly surprised. ... at Arizona, we were contacted twice by another conference, but we felt it was important to stay in the Pac-12 from an academic, recruiting and student-athlete experience standpoint. However, I assumed that if we had been contacted, there were most likely others who were contacted, too. The Bay Area Newsgroup/Pac12 hotline offers something like a $1 per month 6 month trial subscription. If you get one, you have to cancel before the regular rate takes effect. However, when you call to cancel, they will let you renew for the same rate. Rinse and repeat.
  2. Interesting article. If the SEC stays with their division format, a team staying home with one loss could benefit from a contestant in the CShip game getting their second loss which they wouldn't have gotten if they had stayed home. College football's powerbrokers are divided.
  3. Then bet $10 that there won't be any undefeated teams after this weekend. It still bodes well for the Ducks. One-loss chaos scenario: What happens if there are no more undefeated college football teams? SPORTS.YAHOO.COM There are eight contenders still vying for the College Football Playoff. What happens if each of them has one loss?
  4. Looks like UCLA has hit an iceberg on the way to the BIG. So far, I think this makes four defections. Although, you don't have to be a grad student to see this is probably a smart move. Dante Moore enters transfer portal: Touted UCLA QB to explore options after rocky freshman season - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM The former five-star prospect showed his potential early but struggled against Pac-12 opposition
  5. Unfortunately, the Heisman jury seldom considers West Coast evidence and that may happen again. The good news is that when I am the Chief Justice of college football, I will be able to: 1) Direct the verdict to the proper winner. 2) Take away voting rights of anyone who didn't list Christian McCaffery No. 1 on their ballot. 3) Take away voting rights of anyone whose ballot is postmarked prior to the Monday they are due. 4) Take away voting rights of anyone whose ballot is postmarked at all, since no one should still be using snail mail. The bad news is that when I am Chief Justice of college football, I will eventually have to wake up.
  6. Hopefully he won't be re-united with his brother. Man it is hard to figure out when a student-athlete's decade of eligibility is over. MSN WWW.MSN.COM
  7. Wish him well, as well as all the others who choose the same route. I hope all the players do what they think is best for themselves. I'll always root for the leftovers.
  8. The only way to watch the game and save the dog!
  9. If we would have had this sort of potential chaos in prior years, an expanded playoff would have come about sooner. For instance, this year, if 'Bama were to beat Georgia, but FSU, Michigan and ewe dub (I know, ain't gonna happen, but bear with me) all win, they have to put 'Bama and all those 13 - 0 teams in and the two-time with one loss in three years defending Champ is left out. If that had happened in previous years, the next year the playoffs would have been expanded, or the SEC would have succeeded from the NCAA and held their own tournament. Of course, if the above happens, ESPN still has enough time and money to expand the playoffs this year!
  10. I'm confident, not overly so, just confident. Of course, that will disappear around kickoff and hopefully reappear at the end of the first quarter.
  11. Where can we put the toilet paper roll?
  12. Go Ducks. Keep the committee focused on the eye test.
  13. It doesn't diminish the regular season for me. I live and die by every game. If the Ducks are 2 - 2 (Good Gosh forbid) I'm still invested in game No. 5. I want my team in the hunt as long as possible, past a single loss. And when that dream dies, watch them ruin someone else's season. Plus, it's only a matter of time before a 3 L team makes the 12-team playoff. This year LSU is lurking at No. 13. Another perk of going to the BIG is that it is one of the only two conferences that would get a 3 L team in.
  14. We won't get a chance, they go to 3rd world countries. . . of course, Seattle may qualify!
  15. Does he have a vote? If so, it needs to be forfeited.
  16. Doesn't matter if you get caught at anything, just ask Michigan.
  17. Reports surfaced suggesting that 10 schools are dangling name, image and likeness deals worth at least $1 million in front of the WSU quarterback, said to be considering a graduate transfer. Among them supposedly are Auburn, Oregon, Notre Dame, Texas A&M — and Washington. Although no way to verify. MSN WWW.MSN.COM
  18. Congrats to him, and good $C can't poach him. MSN WWW.MSN.COM
  19. I think Boo's remarks about FSU being a "different" team without Jordan Travis means they are the weakest link in the top 5. Therefore, if the games go "chalk", Ducks will jump them and they become Bulldog bait. AND, a traditional Rose Bowl swan song with a Pac 12 champ vs the champion of "one of the two conferences without a math major".
  20. Agreed, made me look at my tax bill to make sure I wasn't being overtaxed for being transitive.
  21. Sarcasm alert. . . Sorry David, you lost all credibility when you included the sentence "It’s a credit to Washington for being the only team to make it through the regular season undefeated this year." And shame on your editor for letting it fall through the cracks. Other than that, fine article. In addition to the demise of the Conference of Champions as we knew and loved it, just like when Tricky Dick resigned, the press won't have the Pac 12 to kick around anymore. So, I guess it is only fitting that the iceberg struck Pac12anic conference can best be described by the verb associated with one of the remaining teams, they "couged it".
