  1. Northwestern had 42 yards of offense in the first half. 174 yards of their 313 yards (55%) of offense took place in the 4th quarter, which was when they scored their only points against our 2nd and 3rd team defenders.

Winning ugly still gets the W.

Although, I can’t say that I am overly confident that we have a top 10 defense. So, the question becomes, can we outscore our opponents?

  2. I have been to many college, and pro stadiums, and they all follow a predictable formula. By the way, refs can already stop play because of artificial noise.

The music, or noise from speakers well above field level are not the reason teams win, or lose.

I never have heard any coaches say that if they turned off all the speakers we would have won. But, many talk about a stadium being a tough environment, referring to the crowd noise.

  3. Have to give our DL credit for allowing us to have different personnel packages at DB. Take a great athlete, and use their intelligence, and abilities, to wreak havoc.

I will go back a few years and say a player like Troy Dye would probably have excelled in the position. A thorough knowledge of the opposing offense, good sideline to sideline speed, great tackler, and was a cruise missile coming up to stop the run.

  4. Some injuries are hard to come back from. Best of luck Jurrion.

Too bad he didn't pan out. Why was he suspended in August, I wonder?

Good thing we got plenty of other talents. Wish him the best, although I doubt we will ever hear about him again...

DL stated that players are expected to be on time for meetings, and practice when asked about Jurrion’s status. There were also rumors that he was fighting with teammates at practice.

  5. Stein has the luxury of having a QB that has gone to school studying his offense for over a year. I think he rolls out the “deception” plays because they work, are fun to run. Plus, you are probably correct that our future opponents have to watch that tape.

The hire of Ross Douglas as receivers coach, probably added some plays to the arsenal, as well as being a great addition for teaching players.

The Ducks are fun to watch, which also helps future recruiting efforts.

But, to answer the question of what is going on. I think our schedule overall is soft, and the coaches know that scoring a lot of points is needed to separate ourselves from the pack.

Moore was a 5 star based on his 7 on 7 abilities.

Dante was a 4 year starter in high school. He helped lead his team to the state championship three times, and the team won two titles in their division. As far as I can see from his high school highlights they play 11 man football.

Any last minute drive requires an extraordinary team effort. I feel comfortable giving him the ball. When he is done at Oregon he will probably be playing on Sundays.

  7. Definitely different.

First two games were fun to watch this year, and last year the first two were somewhat painful.

As far as I can tell, we have an NFL caliber QB, RBs, WR’s, TE, and OL. Then on defense…NFL caliber DE’s, DT’s, LB’s, CB’s, and S.

This team drips with talent, and they play hard for each other.

I think that I really like that we will be the underdog going to Penn State in a few weeks. All the pressure will be on them to prove that they can beat a CFP caliber team.

  8. Who knows what the financial future holds.

I do know the costs of competing in college sports are sky rocketing upward, along with inflation. At some point, the financials will be an issue, and Oregon will not be the only one struggling to balance an athletic budget each year.

I can’t worry about what might happen. We all face challenges, and I am sure Oregon will continue to be known as “the Fighting Ducks”, far into the future.

I wasn't crazy about the shotgun full house formation. It's like trying to clog 2 more players through the same pipe and compacts the defense over center even more, and it takes longer for the exchange to happen while the DEs and DBs crash down like a pistol run. I'm not a fan.

Luke Moga was the QB on that play. It was 52 - 6 at that point, and the Ducks are burning clock. It is another formation that future opponents will need to review.

That formation makes it difficult for defensive backs to see the hand off, and then react to the running back. More of an educated guess on their part.

  10. ESPN was the only game in town decades ago. ESPN is slowly sinking, competition has decreased viewership, and they rely heavily on college football to float their boat.

They will be all in on SEC football, and the CFP, because that pays their bills. They will always tout the SEC, before others, for as long as they hold the contract to show SEC sports content. It is all about who pays their bills.

  11. Standing in line to get an overpriced beer when the Duck lost his head.

The Duck losing his noggin is not very high on the “misery index” when you compare it to DeBoer’s buyout of $70 million. If they choose to shell out the $$$ for a buyout, the coaching carousel starts, and I think many coaches would be reluctant to jump on.

Every fan base in the nation is enjoying the current misery of Bama fans.

  12. The coaches did what they needed to do on offense. Dante Moore needed passing reps, and it was good to have him run a two minute offense in the game. Was it needed? Not really.

Stein mentioned that because the talent is different this year vs. last year, his play calling would change.

Having a QB, RBs, and receivers that can attack all levels of the field is important. We have the ability to play a smash mouth type running game, or switch to a personnel package that can spread the field, and attack the edges, or downfield.

I think Stein is trying to see what our players can do in these early games, and then use players that create match up problems against better defensive competition.
