I don't think this was a question of choosing between the two, but among all the other candidates out there...who would you want if Cristobal left to go back to Florida?

I guess I could handle getting Peterson if Mario were to leave. However, we must be ready for Jimmy Lake to come with him.

Of course, a 7 footer in high school, depending upon the size and quality of the other team, should be able to post those numbers.

I always thought skinny, big men were a thing of the past (Bol Bol?). However, there are some decent big men out there who can dominate a game.

  3. First of all, I’m glad you’re not the AD. Second, Utah was the better team on Saturday and still is. They are better than Oregon at every position but DE. Just because they had 3 losses doesn’t mean they stink. They only have one loss since Rising took over and that was in Corvallis which is where teams go to die (thank goodness we’re playing in Autzen this weekend). It would be a safe bet to put your money on Utah to represent the PAC in the Rose Bowl. Saban couldn’t have coached Oregon to a win on Saturday night. They only have like 7 Seniors and they’re down 11 starters overall. 9 wins is a good showing for this team.

  4. First things first. Every Duck coach who has left Oregon has failed miserably at their next job (Belotti included). I don’t know why, but these are the facts.

Second, if MC takes the Gator job he’s going to get 3 years to completely turn it around. This means beating Kirby and Saban. He will most likely be gone in 2 years if he posts .500 or below records. He better negotiate a massive buyout.

Third, Miami can’t pay him what he can earn at Oregon and they have terrible football facilities. He also has to deal with getting recruits who can qualify academically. Miami is a lot like Stanford and UCLA in that respect. It’s just not as easy to win there anymore.

I’m not saying he won’t leave but Oregon has a lot of upside if he decides to stay.

Too political-it has the word aggression

True. How about we switch “aggression” with “antagonism”. That might be a better name for the uw game.

  6. Does anybody know how long it took Dabo Swinney to get his team to a championship level? It took him 7 years to get to a championship game and 8 to win one. It took him a bit to get the right players and coaches together. If MC ever leaves it will be tough sledding in Eugene for a good while. For one thing, we are second fiddle to the SEC in pecking order for available coaches. We also have to find someone who won’t use Oregon as a stepping stone to a better job. That’s hard to do unless they’re from the West Coast.

Long story short. Give the man some time. His team is young, which is why I think he stuck with a Senior QB. He is also dealing with a ton of injuries. There are 5 starters missing on offense and 6 on defense. If anything, he needs to look at what is happening in the strength and conditioning program and assess how how and why he is losing players in practice.

  7. Yes, it is ridiculous. Especially the Kellen Moore prediction. He’s ripe for a HC job in the NFL. There’s no way he’s going to uw. Personally, I think the Cowboys should fire McCarthy after the season and hire Kellen, but Jerry doesn’t listen to me. He never has.

Furthermore, I think football is a dying game on the West Coast as a whole. I think you’re going to see it removed from a lot of school districts and become more of a club sport. Fewer and fewer kids out West are playing the game due to the stigma of injuries. West Coast parents have always been more progressive while folks from the Midwest and the South still have an old school, blue collar mindset. Football is a huge part of their culture and some communities live and die with their HS football teams. In fact, I’ve met quite a few kids from the South who played HS football strictly because their parents made them. It was done more to teach them discipline and hard work.

Mycah who, is all I have to say. Time to move onward and forward with math as I know it. You add through subtracting a negative, right?

I was listening to Rick Neuweasel the other morning on ESPN radio. He admitted something that we all know, but is seldom talked about overtly. He said “The run-off game is strong among coaches”. He then went on to say how coaches have conversations with some of their players about how their services will not be needed in the future, but they will help them find a spot at a different school. This is how they make room for bigger signing classes. What I thought was most interesting is since the onset of the transfer portal, these players no longer get help from their former coach with finding another team, so it has become more difficult for a lot of the kids. Those are the ones who find themselves in the FCS or D2.

This may not have anything to do with MP, but if he’s not getting the ball much and there is new talent coming in then the writing is on the wall.

Oregon (Mario?) is lucky to have Uncle Phil around in case the need arises to adjust to the new market for head coaches.

I have a sneaking suspicion that these kind of numbers will be the norm when the playoff is expanded. If Oregon wants to quit being a “stepping stone” program they’ll have to eventually cough up this kind of money.
