  1. Posters are not being insulted as they are on some of the other sites. It really surprises me that the moderators on these other sites do absolutely nothing to discourage this type of behavior. The NIL issue is generating a lot of posts, and seemingly anyone (usually an older posters) who thinks this is a dangerous trend is immediately jumped and insulted primarily by posters that don't and haven't donated a darn dime to the DAF. The Ducks are very fortunate to have a few donors who are footing a significant amount of the NIL monies.
  2. Softball team has real pitching problems. No. 1 pitcher Brooke Yanez injured out for the year. Preseason No. 2 Jordan Dail is very spotty up one inning down the next very inconsistent. Klietherms started the season like a house on fire, seems to have peaked early and then headed south, Breedlove is a rookie who has a long way to go, which then leaves then with Hansen whose good , but doesn't seem to have insurance, after 4 innings or so she seems to fall apart. Yanez will be back next year, but hopefully they will bring in a top pitching recruit. It's going to be a tough rest of the season.
  3. I don't remember Doug Brenner. Did he ever play for the Ducks, where was he from?
  4. I think A & M will fall on their face, and I think the same will be true at Tennessee. I can see tremendous resentment at Tennessee to one person getting 8M and the rest basically nothing, I think that will end up with a lot of missed blocks ending with QB sacks. A & M, in my opinion will still get their ass kicked by Alabama and Georgia and most likely more which will cost the coach his job. Most so called experts that I've talked to think Oregon will do better than most intros NIL era, do to the fantastic success Knight has had with top drawer athletes around the world.
  5. He did not say that he felt it was over for the Ducks, on the contrary he feels that Oregon will do well in the probable in what he thinks the new field of play will shake out to be, but thinks that the number of programs involved in the future will shrink dramatically and not for the benefit of the sport.
  6. He is not a fan of the NIL program and thinks it will be the beginning of he end of college football as we know it. However thinks the Ducks will do better than most schools involved with the NIL, due to the fact that Knight has spent so much of his life involved with major athletes in many different sports, and has an excellent reputation. He thought the recent Tennessee involvement with the high school QB was not only ridiculous, but stupid. Thinks major college football will shrink down to around 30 teams +,or -. His opinion is that a significant number of players aren't going to have the opportunity they now have to play, and also that women's, sports will suffer as so many schools will not have the monies coming from football to support women's sports as well as mens minor sports.
  7. This is just the beginning of what I predicted. Soon, as more and more players are signed for big money, the rumors of a super conference will become prevalent. Most likely that will happen and that will be the beginning of the end of college football as we know it. Smaller conferences will cease playing football. Who will be the savior if there is one. It very easily could be the Pros. Why, because their source of players will start drying up. Just a hunch.
  8. Canzano is such an A--H---, glad The Oregonian dumped him, and I will be amazed if he hangs around for more than another year, as someone posted on another site "He'll be selling real estate soon". Altman is in my opinion the greatest coach The Ducks have ever had. As he pointed out they had multiple problems with a significant number of players this season. I did think that Young was one heck of a ballplayer and a real team leader, to bad he won't be back next year and even bigger tragedy, to bad he didn't become a Duck a few years ago, he would have been a great one. Can they keep their 2 rookie big men for next year. great question, I kind of doubt it. With Mr. All Everything coming on board, and I think Dante may come back, along with our other big man, I can't see them hanging around, however next years team should be a top 10 team and be in it for Pac 12 championship.
  9. Wong must have read my comments, she sure turned it around, I'd guess she did a lot of work with the hitting coach, for that matter the whole team must have, great to see Cid come out of her slump in todays game.
  10. Was checking his son Onterrio Jr (a RB at Folsom High in Sacramento area and wants to be a Duck) out. Was shocked to see that figure, no information as to how he supposedly accumulated that kind of wealth. Kid must be a pretty decent RB, about same size as his dad, no ranking yet, but must be pretty decent player, they beat De La Salle in state playoffs and he had a good game. Just curious in case someone knows the answer.
  11. Having had some dealings with Kelly over the years pertaining to Oregon and Duck events, I will tell you he is an egotistical A---H---. One of my close friends was past president of the UCLA alumni association, very involved with the UCLA AD, was thrilled when Kelly was hired, is now totally in the dumps that he will be back as coach next year.
  12. Charles, I never thought I'd have to agree to this, but you are right in the comment that we are in a rent a coach era. I know Mike Bellotti well, and for what it's worth the only reason that he did not accept either the Notre Dame, or USC jobs was because of his wife he was adamant about staying in Eugene, and a secondary reason was Oregon PERS which has been great for Mike and his family. I really liked Christobal as a human being, great guy to visit with, hell of a hard worker, but in my opinion (and many others) a lousy game coach, and I don't think he will be any different at Miami. Is Lanning an improvement, the more I learn about him the better I like him. He seems like he's a very intelligent individual, that being said, I think he will most likely be a much better head coach than some of us even think he will. His intelligence is showing in how he has picked what I think is an outstanding staff. If he is a rent a coach, that means down the line, we will be looking for another Lanning and then have a mediocre year, or two, will that happen, maybe, and maybe not. He does not have the tie to a school that is a football powerhouse, or potential like Christobal did. Oregon has the ability to match salaries with most schools, so it's highly possible that he could be a long timer, time will tell. So far everything he's doing I like, but I said the same thing at this stage of the game about Christobal.
  13. As I posted above thanks to Jim Bartko I have become a strong Duck ladies softball fan.
  14. I've become a ladies softball devotee. I got a call a few years ago from Jim Bartko (ex-assistant AD for the Ducks) asking me to attend the ladies softball tournament in Cathedral City, Ca., and cheer for the ladies Ducks. I thought he was nuts and told him so, but I did what he asked, and I have to say I was immediately hooked. A couple of years ago the tournament drew over 50,000. This year the tournament (called the Mary Nutter) will start on February 24, Ducks play there 1st game at 10:00AM against Northwestern on Friday 25th, then Missouri at 12:30PM on the 25th, Seattle U at 5:00PM on the 26th, Cal.St. Fullerton 7:30PM on the 26th, and on Sunday 27th Long Beach St. 11:30PM. I hope to attend at least 3 of the games. Would not be surprised to see the tournament draw over 50K. They have 5 fields, one stadium is a replica of Fenway Park, another one Yankee Stadium and another Wrigley field. The other 2 are nothing special. If you don't get there early you may not fine a seat.
  15. This is just the start,. After this gets litigated and assuming they win, what do we think the non revenue sports athletes are going to do? Are universities going to just drop non revenue sports that they have invested millions of dollars in facilities, equipment et al. It would seem to me that if they invalidated the definition used today of STUDENT ATHLETE it would also have they same effect on non revenue sports. I hate to say this, but it seems to me like the only possible answer to this disaster is some new national legislation from congress. If not the whole system as we know it will go down the drain and we will be left with the so called super conference with football and basketball only and involve somewhere between 24 and 36 universities.
  16. Oregon donors have been extremely generous over the years, more so than Husky donors, that along with Knight donation and a few others have been significant. Also a couple of Washington billionaires wives are Oregon Ducks.
  17. The NCAA is now a toothless dragon. They can do very little regarding the portal as far as regulating. Just saw where a player had entered the portal from Clemson a year or, two ago, and entered the portal again to go back to Clemson. The Feds, through courts as well as the states have taken most regulatory ability away from the NCAA. College football is rapidly becoming a minor league NFL. A significant number of players are really professionals already. Look at Texas, all scholarship OL's will receive $50,000 a year. Texas A & M spent $30M+ on this years recruiting class. Thiboudeaux made close to 1/2 a million this year. Some so called experts are prediction college football as we know it today will shrink down to a super league of 24 to maybe 36 teams. Teams like Oregon State, Washington State, Cal, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa State, West Virginia, Missouri, Mississippi, Illinois, Purdue, Wake Forest, Duke as examples will not be able to compete. This is not good for the players when you consider that if the above happens there will be over 3,000 scholarships that will disappear. When you have head coaches from Alabama and Georgia saying something has to be done about NIL and the Portal, then that should get peoples attention. Obviously Oregon is and will be able to compete, but this is not healthy for the game and in my opinion the players.
  18. I have to say that at first I was disappointed that Mario left. But sitting back, watching, listening etc. I've come to the realization that what occurred with the football program may be the best thing that could possibly have happened. Yes, Mario was an excellent recruiter, and a hell of a hard worker, but as said above none of this years team seems to have followed him to Miami. I always felt he was a poor game coach. Thought this last season that our OC would be calling the plays without any interference, obviously that was not the case. Mario's strongest suit is as a recruiter, but with the staff that Lanning has put together I'd say that the Ducks will recruit even better with he and his new staff. Never felt that the D performed like it should have, and it looks to me like the new staff is better put together to solve that issue than the old staff. The enthusiasm as a group of the new staff as a whole is hard to beat. Some of the coaches that had been at UCLA in the past didn't do the greatest job as teachers, but if you look at where they have been since the Mora days, I'd say that they have learned to be good teachers (coaches). I love Lanning enthusiasm, it's contagious. I don't see the program missing a beat going into next season and I can honestly see Oregon having an 11-1 season + Pac 12 championship win, and an invite to National Championship series. A lot of you will probably think I'm nuts, however my enthusiasm for the new group and the future of the program is hard for me not to feel the way I do. I think Rob Mullens made a great hire, hope I'm right about that and the above.
  19. In. my opinion Oregon could not have played much worse than they played in the first 3 quarters. Made mistake after mistake, shot less than 30% in the first half, lost the ball 3 times trying to in bound the ball after a Zone basket, lost all kinds of rebounds. I have to say that Sedona Prince finally played up to her reputation in the 4th quarter, not only did she score and rebound well, but she became a team leader and was totally inspired in the 4th and in my opinion was the reason the Ducks won.
  20. I do not see us losing to BYU, they lose a lot from this years team.
  21. Have a lot of Stanford buddies and they feel that Shaw, who is the highest paid Pac 12 coach, is kind of sitting back and taking it easy and not out there recruiting llke he should. There are easily 25 outstanding players every year that have the academic ability as well as athletic ability to attend Stanford. Over the years Stanford has had some outstanding teams. The attendance is not what it should be, but they do very well when playing UCLA, SC, Notre Dame and surprisingly Oregon. I've attended 3 Stanford-Duck games at Palo Alto in the last 8 years and attendance was quite good, however I always felt there were more Duck fans than Stanford fans.
  22. Meant to add much more. The combination of NIL and the transfer rules now in place is dooming collegiate sports as we now know them. Great example is what is happening at Texas and Texas A & M. Spending millions of dollars to land the #1 recruiting class in the country is the beginning of total destruction of collegiate football as we have known it over the years. Can Oregon survive? Obviously yes, as Phil Knight as already put in place a group to support the new NIL program. However, can schools like Oregon State, Washington State, Colorado, Iowa State, Missouri, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, just to name a few, compete, answer no. So what is the answer? As a few sports writers have written, the creation of a super conference. One writer wrote it would be composed of 24 teams, another one 30, how many who knows, but this will be the end of the bowl game season, and will mean that a lot of members of the so called power 5 conferences will no longer play football. Some say why doesn't the NCAA step in and do something? They can't, today the only reason the NCAA still exist is the national championship basketball tournament which they control, if it wasn't for that they would go away. The courts have stepped in and, in reality, taken over. What's happening with A&M and Texas is just the beginning.
  23. Collegiate sports as we have loved and enjoyed over the years is in the process of going away.
  24. I see the Ducks in an upset 31-28, OU has a lot of folks not playing also.
