  1. Not much here I disagree with. Canes football has been a shell of its once greatnesses. But remember the Canes were once great ………at the top of the mountain. Absolutely Mario was hired to revive the program and he will be expected to at least win the ACC Coastal Division within 3 years, but because he’s a favorite son he will receive more time and patience than did Manny. I’m impressed that you referenced Randy Shannon, but don’t forget Larry Coker, and Al Golden ………all underperformers. .
  2. 1. OK granted Oregon may have better facilities but Miami has recently spent millions updating their facilities. They opened the new “indoor” facilities 2 years ago. The Canes facilities are only exceeded by a few programs and when UM was winning 57 straight home games ………facilities were not an issue. 2. Why would you think NIL opportunity is better in Eugene? The population (businesses) of Miami-Dade County and Broward (Ft Lauderdale) is greater than the entire state of Oregon. 3. Seriously? Miami has played in NINE National Championships and WON FIVE titles. UM still hold numerous winning streaks. In one year Miami had five players taken in the first round. Alabama just tied that record. 4. Heisman Winners - QB Vinny Testaverde & Gino Torreta. And 4-5 runner ups. 5. Outland Winners: Russel Maryland; Bryant McKinnie 6. Talent - South Florida has got more HS talent than any area in the USA. IMG, Central HS, Northwester HS, etc. Half a dozen high schools individually each one has more talent than the entire state of Oregon. ‘The “Muck”: never heard that term have you? Two poor small towns on the East side of Lake Okeechobee known for growing Sugar Cane has produced 60 NFL players. * Mario can leave his house after breakfast and visit 4-6 talent rich high schools and drive back home by dinner. At Oregon it would be a week recruiting trip to California. ** Dwane Johnson
  3. I’ve seen 62-60 quoted repeatedly in an effort to make MC look bad. Did Mario hide his record at FIU ………before he was hired? Shame on him! Mario’s Oregon record is 35-13. His FIU record was irrelevant when he was winning PAC Coach of the Year; his FIU record was irrelevant when he was winning the Rose Bowl. It’s only revenant now to smear him. I like reading your excellent forum because I learn. I know little about Football in the state of Oregon, but I respectful tell you …you know little about South FL football when you focus on MARIO ‘s FIU record. Butch Davis was arguably the best coach to wear the Orange-Green. He took over at Miami when they were penalized 33 scholarships. 33 scholies down and in 6 years he put together probably the most talented CFB team ever assembled. He left Miami for the NFL. 2000 Butch went 11-1; 2001 his talent won the National Championship; 2002 Butch’s talent went 12-1 losing the NC on a late questionable call. Butch Davis collected enough talent that Miami had SIX 1st round draft picks. What does my rambling about Butch have to do with Mario? Butch was fired this year but as FIU coach His record 24-32, in 2020 he was 0-5; in 2021 Butch’s record 1-11. So Ducks can continue to use Mario’s FIU record to demean him, but objectively it’s irrelevant, and seems mean spirited..
  4. you’ve make this assertion again - remember Manny’s defense gave up 760 yards in a critical loss to the Conference rival UNC losing 62-26. One UNC RB rushed for 308 yds, the other RB rushed for 236 yds. Diaz also lost to the perennial football power Florida International University. UM lost to FSU this year in the last minute on the worst time management I’ve seen at Miami. The team repeatedly did NOT play hard for Diaz. Diaz never played one down of HS or College Ball. His claim to fame was introducing the “Turn-over Chain” and his political connection of his father being the Mayor. UM was Manny’s 1st HC job and he was overwhelmed and confused making critical game and personnel mistakes. And if you think Manny was treated poorly treated during this coaching change ………remember that 3 years ago Manny signed a contract as the HC for Temple and after 17 days …………broke his contract and returned to UM. Would you have swapped Mario for Manny? That’s a deal we would have enthusiastically made!
  5. Your empathy for us Floridians is appreciated but we hear there’s a new contraption called “Air Condition” …………we are saving to buy one for our “double wide”.
  6. Smith - you’d be absolutely wrong about NO discussions of “Niccolo Machiavelli”on the Miami forums …………just last week we were discussing whether he was the best Italian-American Running back or was it Alan Ameche? BTW - joking about Southerners at this time of the year is especially cruel because Christmas is a tough time for our children because they only have one set of grandparents to receive gifts from.
  7. 73 in Miami with a light tropical breeze. Tomorrow 82 and sunny.
  8. Charles, Merry Christmas from sunny Florida (77 degrees). You run a very nice Forum and I appreciate you indulging an “Old Cane”.
  9. Axel, I love your continued nautical references because I’m a life long boater. After the last 4 coaches we’ve had “I already know where the life boats are located and they are well used”. You are one of many Duck posters prognosticating failure for MC at Miami - I suspect some even seeking a Little Havana Santeria Priest to ensure Mario’s doom. But if Mario performs as well at UM as he did for the Duck (10 win seasons) …….the Life Boats will stay “high and dry”. Here’s my prediction …y’all may be thinking 10 wins season look pretty good. Cheers!
  10. Charles Fischer, you were happy enough with MC that you didn’t explore getting another HC. You were happy enough when MC beat Ohio State in Columbus. Boy I wish you’d have fired Mario - it would have made it far cheaper for the Canes. ‘And w/r/t betting me about our QBs numbers dropping ………that’s not a meaningful team metric. Here’s the bet two smart men would make: I’ll bet that the Canes win more games in 2022 than they did in 2021. And that’s a sucker bet for me because next year the Canes play TAM and Clemson at their places. Sound good?
  11. Jon Joseph, I’ve repeatedly acknowledged I know little about Oregon football. Since I started reading this forum several weeks ago I’ve been greatly impressed and educated ………but You’ve made a statements that reflect you need more info about Cane football. Most glaring is your statement “the Miami kids played hard for Manny”. Not true. Just two examples there are more ……………‘Last year the Canes lost to UNC 62 - 26 ( 36 pts loss) and brother that ain’t the worst of it. Manny the defensive guru gave up 778 total yards. Say that with me …………778 total yards and a 36 point lost all with a good bowl on the line. In 2019 Manny’s team played hard giving up 30 points to Florida International University and giving FIU their biggest WIN in their school history. Do you know that Manny Diaz never played a down of high school or college football and he ain’t no MS Mike Leach. * for the life of me - I can not understand why ………one day posters were wringing their hand afraid of MC leaving and immediately after he announced he was going to Miami ……… he became a coaching bum.
  12. Axel, thanks for the well wishes. Why wasn’t MC fired from Oregon for poor performance? Oregon tried to keep MC ………until it became clear he was off to Miami. He only became a loser after he decided to leave. UM’s been mediocre for 20 years thru 4 coaches since playing for 9 National Championships and winning 5. Mario is a big upgrade for us, but ………Why would Mario return to Miami? A few thing you know, some you don’t and more you don’t understand or care about. CULTURE: MC is Cuban-American first generation ………his parents exiled from their home only 90 miles fm FL by a brutal communist dictator. His parents arriving in Miami with nothing. Thousands of Cubans lost their lives in the FL straights fleeing on rickety boats and rafts. Miami welcomed the Cubans ………it is now their home ……their refuge. The Cuban family and culture is unique. There is a bond between Cubans and Miami like no other location. At midnight you can find Cubans at the crowded Versailles Restaurant on SW 8th St (Calle Ocho) drinking Cuban coffee, eating a Medianchoe sandwich and still talking about Brigade 2506, Freedom Flights and pontificating about Cuba becoming free. Most presidential hopefuls make the obligatory appearance at the Versailles ………the political oasis for Cubans. Miami is the home of millions of Cuban-Americans …………even if they don’t live there ……the force is strong. And MC, although 1st generation is still Cuban. FOOTBALL. As you know MC as a player won 2 National Championships at Miami. He’s coached at …or In miami for 20 years. He knows every high school in South Florida intimately and still has relationships with most of the coaches. Within a 90 minutes drive he can reach arguably the most concentrated HS football talent in the nation ……leaving home after breakfast ………visiting 4-5 high school football powerhouses and be home for dinner. This compared to flights and days away from home recruiting CA. The $$ was similar in Oregon or the Canes and I believe the path to a NC is easier for the Canes because of the abundance of talent in SoFl. Nick Saban can’t live forever. MC Returned for the above reasons but none as strong as his sick mother, his brother, aunts-uncles, his friends, his former teammates, his college, and because as a Cuban-American ……………Miami will always be home!
  13. Charles Fischer - I’m not challenging your knowledge but I’m questing your interpretations. Facts and history just don’t support your conclusions. Can’t develop talent? Below NFL prediction draft and record at Alabama. 1. Detroit Lions: Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge, Oregon Penei Sewell, st round, #7 pick. I do not think that MC slept walked through 4 years with the GOAT @ Alabama and has forgotten what he learned. Or won two National Championships playing for Hall of Fame coaches Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson. Cristobal's Alabama offensive line was awarded as the nation's best in 2015, winning the inaugural Joe Moore Award given to the toughest, most physical line in the nation.[13] His offensive line ranked in the top 25 nationally in sacks allowed in each of his first two seasons. Alabama's offensive lines produced standout players and NFL draft picks under Cristobal, including first-team All-American and 2015 first-round draft pick Ryan Kelly and 2014 freshman All-American Cam Robinson, who went on to win the Outland Trophy in Cristobal's final year with Alabama.[14] perhaps we can continue our enjoyable exchanges later. It’s late on the east coast.
  14. Charles Fischer - great response I enjoyed the read and respect your experience-knowledge. I’m dirt old and I’ve been a loyal Cane fan for 55 years ………even when living in Anacortes WA. I’ve been there for UMs EIGHT national championship games and 5 title wins. You may be right with your opinion and interpretation of data …………and then maybe not. As you know COORDINATORS are critical to the performance of any team. I believe that Mario will hire better coordinators for Miami …………maybe not. Also as you may know …………UM has one of the best young QBs in CFB. QB VanDyke a freshman was ACC of the year. He threw for 6 consecutive games of about 350 yards. Behind him is Californian Garcia a high 4 or 5 star QB. To me here’s the bottom line: Oregon was 10-3; UM was 7-5. The Miami fans believe that MC can do better than 7-5, can MC win our 6th NC …………Unk but there are people betting $8M a year that he can improve the program.
