This is what I see down the road as it makes a lot of since in mind.

Pac 10 schools should just join the b12 now as its going to eventually happen anyway with there super conferences.
If something was more viable for the short and long term it would have happened by now, imo.

Atxwave here....I posted the almost exact same suggestion on one of our boards on Saturday morning except I included Memphis instead of UNLV:
PAC was earning about $33 million per school but obviously loses the LA market (USC and UCLA)
We'll keep it close to what it was and make the payment amount a 2 year commitment based on football and basketball ranking (a formula whereby each school will be re-evaluated every 2 years and can move up or down a tier). This gives the schools incentive to stay competitive. It's like a promotion/relegation system.
New 16 school conference - a cost of $405 million/year with an 8 year commitment (8 years is not a long commitment for the schools being looked at by BIG and Big12 so this buys those schools some time to see how those other conferences shake out as well as the overall landscape). If you can't find more than $250 million/year (which is the rumor) sell the naming rights of the conference to NIKE for $155 million/year and make all the schools NIKE schools. The Pac 16 presented by NIKE or The NIKE 16. This will be amazing branding for them and a completely new way to brand the product.
This keeps all the current schools, adds San Diego (27) market, Fresno (55) market...2 solid football schools in California. It also adds the Dallas market, Houston (8) or San Antonio (31) market, Memphis (51) market, and New Orleans (50) market. This also adds 4 schools in the central time zone to expand the Pac16 audience as well as makes it easier for non-football teams to have travel partners.
You've added 2 strong academic schools in SMU and Tulane...possibly 3 if you take Rice over San Antonio (personally I take San Antonio as UTSA has tremendous growth potential and it's a good tv market). All of the 6 additions have had respectable football and basketball programs off and on within the last 6 years.
Tier 1 - $35 million
Washington
Oregon
Utah
Tier 2 - $30 million
Washington State
Oregon State
Colorado
Stanford
Cal
Arizona
Arizona State
Tier 3 - $15 million
San Diego State
Fresno State
SMU
Memphis
Tulane
Rice or UTSAYou could lose Colorado, AZ, ASU to B12. May lose them anyway.

Its to bad that the B12 and Pac couldn't merge into a super conference as that's the way it will probably end up in 5 years or so anyway.

Tall order win or make championship game.
Going to be tough to even make the playoffs, imo.
Id settle for a Rose Bowl bid....

Why co-defensive coordinators? salaries?

Agree it will take a few years and as you say and year four should be evident.
Like with any improvement plan there needs to be annual objective performance ratings as well so I do hope to see incremental improvement starting next year and the years after.

Trying to be hopeful and optimistic about how our D must improve considerably next year. Its was a total embarrassment this year but I guess it has nothing to do with DC but the players he had to work with?
-
I thought the first order of business in the off season would be to hire another DC.
If Lanning doesn't and they are bad again next year that reflects on his ability to improve the D, the prominent reason reason he was hired here.

Ducks win
47-38
2 take aways
2 sacks
298 passing yards

Am I crazy to kind of want us to use that helmet at some point?
I think that's what they are wearing for Holiday Bowl.

Got to admit Mario is one hell of a recruiter. #5 for 2023

Did he sign a LOI? or is it still verbal.

I think the NIL & Portal for players is great! They now have some freedom that the NCAA prevented them to have for all too long. Capitalism strong!

It's the $$$. He has some pretty wealthy boosters behind him right now.
It's not just money, Mario in front of Mom & Dad is very compelling. He has been known as a top notch recruiter for years now.

When that visit pic with him came out and he had shades on, I viewed that as a bad sign. Also, his announcement pic has Hollywood and dry rolling hills in the back ground. When a kid from the mid west goes to Cali in the winter it's easy to get energized by the sunny surroundings. You really can't Blame him for wanting to go to an exciting big market.
We will be fine, there are so many excellent players available every year through the portal.
-
If Phil wants this kid, don't you think he stands a good chance in getting bringing him here?
-
Sure, the trust is there as he and staff put together a really nice season.
It will be this year however that we should se some improvement in the defense, after all it is his wheel house. Yep, it'll take a few years to see Lanning's defense evolve if it's going too. I worry about just how good. the DC is when recruiting parents in the home, seems a bit rough around the edges. If we are able to get high level recruits here for opportunities to sell Oregon's program and don't seem to be doing so after this year and such, then we have to figure out why we aren't closing on players.

Now we know how UW feels.

He and his fam will probably settle down in Oahu soon. He could get into coaching on the Island helping out young people.
