Georgia had eight defensive players in the combine, and for the most part they put on a show. That wouldn't be a surprise if they were all 5☆ recruits, and three were, but more were 3-4☆ out of high school:

Defensive linemen and linebackers took the field on Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine. Who starred on the big stage? Who...

    Jordan Davis   DL   3☆

    Travon Walker   DL  5☆

    DeVonte Wright  DL  4☆

    Nakobe Dean    LB   5☆

    Channing Tindall   ILB  4☆

    Quay Walker   LB   4☆

    Lewis Cine    S    4☆

    Derion Kendrick  DB   5☆

Dean and Kendrick, both 5☆, didn't do drills at the combine. Dean, Walker, Wyatt and Davis could all go in the first round with Tindall, Walker and Cine soon after. Lanning and crew took kids with varying levels of raw talent and developed them into NFL caliber players. I've got to believe that if they could do it there, they can do it here.

  2. I enjoyed his work though he could be polarizing. He sometimes blew smoke and distorted opinion out of his northbound south end. And. I. Wasn't. Always. A. Fan. Of. His. Staccato. Sentence. Structure. He did gore the occasional ox that needed it (Larry Scott), though he went after the Chipster with a bit too much enthusiasm at times. Some Duck fans will cheer this. I'll kinda miss him.

  3.  Charles, I applaud you running the site as you wish. I for one am tired of the confrontation that some people indulge in when they know they are anonymous and can spew their vitriol online without having the guts to face up with someone they disagree with. Like many others that follow and post here, I am of a certain advanced age. I grew up with "social media" that involved telling someone in person what you thought.

If you weren't willing to do that you kept things to yourself and shut the f*** up. Here, there is a standard of civility that makes me think I would be willing to have a beer with anyone I don't see eye to eye with. Thank you for the venue!

I read things like this about how Riley left OU and it makes me appreciate how Lanning did his exit from Georgia right. We all can understand the dicey nature of promising recruits continuity before the ink is dry on a coaching move, but there is a mild wafting odor of sleaze in the way Riley did it. This is not an isolated event. Too bad this kid followed the $$$ to TA&M, though.

  5. I'm in this camp. One can be critical of the how his departure came down, and of MC's limitations as a player developer and field general coach, but he stabilized the Oregon program when it was reeling from the Taggart departure and made us a national force again in recruiting and reputation. The job he took was at his alma mater where he won a national championship, in his home state, in a Cuban-American community that he was raised in and where his ailing mother lives along with his extended family. For heavens sake, wish the guy well. And be thankful that we appear to have found a new coach that can be everything Cristobal was and probably more.

It seems many folks are happy that Cristobal has not had a smooth start at Miami. Folks have a little grace. Mario was good to Oregon and we should want him to do well also (so long as he loses to Oregon head to head).

  6. This young man seems to be pretty athletic at his size (6-6, 300#+), his picture shows very little 'bad' weight on him and his weight room numbers are really good. Kapa'a is a pretty small place on Kauai and I bet he didn't get the kind of national attention he would have in SoCal. Stepping into Oregon's strong Poly culture is his home away from home. Under the radar, indeed.

  7. Still waiting to see Sedona Prince become the high impact player she can be,  though the midrange shot is starting to fall and she seems more active at the post and on the boards. The real exciting development is the play of Pinto and Kyei, and that Rogers is finding her groove. If Paopao and Sabally stay healthy this is going to be a fun team to watch and an Elite 8 level team.

  8. I couldn't agree more with Jon. The pro playoffs this weekend had several plays that would have been targeting in CFB, particularly with Pac12 refs (Stanfurd game, grrrr). Only rarely did you even get a call. Targeting should be reserved for when a player launches themselves with the crown of the helmet. Everything else should be either incidental contact, or a 15yd personal foul penalty and no ejection. Too many games have pivoted on this rule to not have a revision.
