  1. Coach Lanning was on a recruiting trip to see Isaiah Gibson play in a basketball game, he is an edge defender in Georgia. He is there with Kirby Smart, UGA's head coach, Glen Schumann, UGA's DC and ILB coach, and Chidera Uzo-Diribe, UGA's OLB/Edge coach. I do not know the gentleman next to Dan in the Oregon jacket. As far as the weather I am not sure what it is like in Oregon, but here in Georgia it got to 8 degrees last night and is 12 right now. VERY low for us.
  2. Before you ask, although most of you probably know...Isaiah Gibson
  3. …could find a basketball game to attend in Oregon instead of flying all the way to Georgia!
  4. NevadaDawg shared one of the stories being floated but other sources are leaning towards the Ducks as well. Of course with recruiting, especially in the NIL era, until he signs nothing is completely over. Regarding the sources you named usually those guys don't flip their prediction until they KNOW, but I would expect them to start flipping soon. He is a good player so I hope I am wrong and he picks UGA, but it looks and feels like the Ducks. My poor Dawgs just can't catch a break.
  5. Unless something changes it looks like Oregon will get Aydin's commitment Saturday, congrats! Oh and good luck against those other "dawgs" this week.
  6. I said it before and I am now telling you Nevada Dawg, Dan has UGA nation's attention. You put a guy that understands to win at recruiting you have to be relentless and frankly, ruthless. Pair that win the infrastructure and support Oregon has and you start seeing results. We still have to see if Dan can keep his staff as motivated as he needs to but he certainly looks the part now that's for sure.
  7. This is a summary of what an Oregon On3 writer said about the UGA/Oregon recruiting battles for some big Mater Dei targets and Justin Williams out of TX: - UGA likely leads now for Justin Williams - Says UGA is main completion for Baker but he still believes Oregon will win that one. - says basically same for Aydin Breland - Oregon leads but UGA is main comp. - says if both Mater Dei kids (Baker/Breland) commit to Oregon then that would likely help land Frazier - but said if he had to predict now, he would predict Frazier to Dawgs Look I like you guys and wish you well but now Dan Is starting to meddle!
  8. I would also add per Ross Dellenger at SI it looks like it may be 8 for 2024 and then revisit it later. That way they can make sure to keep the bigger rivalries in 2024 and then maybe go to 9 in 2025. SEC is looking for $5 million more per team to go to nine. Again, per unsubstantiated reports but it does jive with earlier rumors.
  9. Yeah this is true, here is the math: 1. In a 3-6 you play six teams every two years = 12 teams. Add in the three permanent = 15 teams, plus your own team = 16 2. In a 1-7 you play seven teams every two years = 14 teams. Add in the one permanent = 15 teams, plus your own team = 16. UGA as an example below: 3+6 2024. 2025 Florida Florida Auburn Auburn Kentucky Kentucky Bama Tennessee South Car Vandy Mizzou. Arkansas Ole Miss Miss State Tex A&M LSU Texas Oklahoma *permanent in bold 1+7 2024. 2025 Florida Florida Auburn Kentucky Bama Tennessee South Car Vandy Mizzou Arkansas Ole Miss Miss State Tex A&M LSU Texas Oklahoma *permanent in bold
  10. Good points but just to clarify for fairness, the 8 game model ensures each team will play all the other teams, home and away, in a four year period as well.
  11. Yeah I know right?! If I had to bet I would still think it is 9 conference games and this is smoke for negotiating purposes. Thank you for the well wishes, good luck to the Ducks in the Pac 12 as well. I would hate for USC to win it on their way out.
  12. I think UGA's president let something important slip this week in a press conference, he even said Commissioner Sankey probably won't like me saying this. Paraphrasing what was said by him and the AD Josh Brooks, they will not come right out and say if they prefer 8 or 9 conference games (most thought UGA was in the 9 game camp) but then he added "if we increase the number of conference games we need to be compensated for that". The nine game model had a lot of momentum and seemed to be preferred but I think that was when everyone assumed ESPN would increase the amount of money, and money is kinda tight right now for ESPN. I think the teams that wanted to keep it at eight may have found allies with those schools that want nine but don't want to do it for free. They may stay at eight and use nine as a bargaining chip in the future. The reason I think Saban's comments and UGA's president matter so much is the whole reason the SEC has the messed up scheduling they have now (only playing certain teams every 5-7 years), is because they wanted to preserve two rivalry games, UGA in the east versus Auburn in the west, and Tennessee in the east versus Bama in the west. If Bama and UGA are willing to lose those annual games then eight games is a real possibility.
  13. Hello FishDuck, it's been a while. I haven't posted since before the season, I am glad to hear you guys are doing well in recruiting and seem to be happy with Coach Lanning. I actually thought of you guys because a picture of Aydin Breland was posted on a UGA board at your scavenger hunt, our scavenger hunt was today as well. I figure Dan was thinking it works in Athens, it'll work in Eugene! Heck for all I know Dan might have come up with the idea when he was here. The recruits seem to enjoy it as well as their families. I hope it bears fruit for you guys, well, not against UGA if we want the same player. I said a prayer for Pennsylvania Duck, I really wish we were done with Covid. Take care guys and I will pop in from time to time, I kept up with and rooted for you guys last year after our game. - amcdawg
  14. Ducks, Eight months have flown by since I first learned about this site. You guys have been nothing but gracious and kind to us UGA fans, thank you. @Charles Fischeryou should be proud of these sites, you hard work has created a great forum! After tomorrow there will not be a real need for me to come back here as often so I wanted to say it was great to meet you all. I wanted to tell you this tonight because depending on what happens tomorrow I may not be as gracious, lol. I do wish you guys luck from 9/4/22 on, and I hope Dan is a good coach for you. Your dawg friend (the real dawgs), amcdawg
  15. If not those are some big spread changes no doubt
  16. @Mic Isn't that what it opened at? I saw this at VegasInsider but I could be wrong. I had to screen shot the top and then the game odds separately. I am just wondering if I am looking at this wrong.
  17. Where are you seeing these, I see the latest 16.5 and 15.5 on Fanduel
  18. Hello Ducks, As discussed on these boards one of the interesting points to the first game is the familiarity between Dan Lanning and UGA. We know teams have a plethora of analysts who break down tape to find any patterns or tendencies. So I found it interesting when Kirby said UGA has analysts breaking down UGA film, looking for tendencies on Dan Lanning. Does he like to blitz in third and long, second and long, when they do blitz what % of the time is it the Mike? or the Mac? or the Jack? Man or zone? I also find it interesting that Dan has to be doing the same type of self-reflection vs team reflection when watching tape on UGA's defense. As Kirby as said many times, ultimately it will come down to the players once the ball is kicked off. I just find this intertwined relationship fascinating especially being game one. If this were a year from now each side would have tape on each other without each other (is that phrase correct?, well you get it)
  19. As you guys may or may not know Kirby Smart played safety at UGA and he was the DB position coach for Nick Saban before he was his DC and even when he was the DC. Of course Saban played and coached DB's as well. I say that to say this, the way UGA's DB's played was because that is the way Kirby (and Nick before him) wanted them to play. Dan had enormous input on the UGA defense, schemes, blitzes, game plans, so this is not a knock on him at all, but the DB's play the way Kirby wanted them to play. There is a reason our DB coach left for Miami and our current DB coach is handling mostly just CB's while Will Muschamp handles safeties. Being Kirby Smart's DB coach is probably the second hardest position job in the country, only behind being Nick Saban's DB coach. Dan may want them to play a different style, who knows? But if he keeps it the same, and my hunch is he will or he will want to, he will want big and physical corners. He will want to play a LOT of man coverage and it will not be play off the receiver five yards, it will be tight and on them from the snap. Refs in the SEC tend to allow more hand checking, grabbing, and physicality and UGA takes advantage of that. (as does bama, florida, lsu, etc) I do not know if Oregon has the corners to play that way, that is not a knock on them, I just do not know your roster. In regards to calling them all DB's the trend at UGA and all of football is to go away from the bulking safety that kills the receiver over the middle, you will probably get flagged for that. Instead coverage skills are extremely important, UGA's starting strong safety Chris Smith was a CB recruit, as was our star (nickel back) William Poole. They still have to defend the run and you will not (hopefully) see them covering the X receiver, but there is a lot of "crossover" skills. It may be that your staff is figuring out who can do what, so until they do, just call them DB's.
  20. Well this isn't a good excuse but it is the one I will use, this isn't a UGA thing, or even an SEC thing (okay it is an SEC thing ) but mainly a Pac-12 perception issue. One that I, and any reasonably knowledgeable fan knows is BS. But it is there and it is perpetuated by the media directly or indirectly. The only way to break it is by Pac 12 teams winning some big non-conference games (but not you guys against UGA I hope ) and get to and win playoff games. It ain't fair but it is reality. Non-Clemson ACC teams and non-Texas/Oklahoma Big 12 team face this too. Even Clemson has to feel like they have to go undefeated to get the benefit of the doubt. And as delusional as UGA fans may be I would say florida fans are even more convinced they will beat Utah, which I don't get that arrogance at all! Lastly, of course there are some UGA fans who think this way but I guarantee you many are respectful and are worried about the Ducks, myself included.
  21. You need to come out of your shell and show a little enthusiasm. /s
