Wasikowski provides injury updates ahead of three-game series against Cal With the 2023 season more than halfway over, the No. 23 Ducks head into a three-game series against Cal with a 24-11 record, 9-6 in the conference. The conference wins include a series victory over No. 9 Stanford, but Oregon is coming off a stunning upset loss to Portland on Tuesday, losing 10-9. As the Cal series approaches, Oregon will be without 1B/DH Dominic Hellman for the foreseeable future. Hellman, a top-70 recruit in the 2022 class, has played sparingly this year, primarily due to injury. Hellman was limited in the early stretch of the season due to a lower leg injury and has not played since the Oregon State series on April 9th. On the pitching side of the ball, Oregon has been without its Friday night start from a season ago, Isaac Ayon, for the entire year. Ayon suffered an arm injury during the fall, has continued rehab, and is progressing steadily, according to Wasikowski. "He's progressing well, and I look to see him, hopefully, sooner rather than later," said Wasikowski. "But we're definitely planning on having him back by the end of the season for sure." As for other injury notes, shortstop Carter Garate, another freshman from the Ducks' No. 5 ranked class, continues to be day-to-day but is "trending in the right direction." Oregon and Cal begin a three-game series starting Friday at 7 PM. Ducks Who Are NFL Bound (No.2)

'When he’s playing football, he doesn’t look like a reserved, quiet kid': The two sides of Christian Gonzalez It can seem puzzling, standing in the semi-circle media scrum when former Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez has the floor. The outward aggression he showcases to overwhelm opponents on the football field just doesn’t match the persona he puts forth to the public. It’s not that he detests public speaking, he’s just as laid back as they come. In fact, the whole Gonzalez crew is. Maybe not to the extent of Christian. His older sister Samantha is the most “passionate” of the group, as their mom Temple described it. The youngest, Lily, is more outwardly spoken, as well. And the oldest, Melissa, is a lot like Christian. As a man of few words, one might describe Christian as quiet. Samantha sees it as his maturity is beyond his years. But they’ve surely seen the other side come out. “I think when he’s playing football, he doesn’t look like a reserved, quiet kid,” Melissa said. “He’s aggressive. He’s leading his team. I think that’s when I see him really step into his personality. He knows when he needs to speak up, and it’s on the football field.” This is a good article about Christian Gonzalez, a human interest type article I think you will like from The Daily Emerald. -
Jhop Predicts: Running List of 2024 Predictions The last few days have been filled with some pretty big news in Oregon football. Spring ball is in full bloom and the Ducks are set to host one of its biggest group of visitors next weekend the program has ever seen. With things building up, it’s an exciting time for Duck fans. I figured this was a good time to take a look at some of the 2024 predictions I’ve made on uncommitted players regarding the Ducks. See the updates from recruiting insider Justin Hopkins in the article below... Oregon Baseball Loses To Portland 9-10 Ducks pitching fails on all levels in the loss. On the surface, it would appear that Oregon Ducks baseball lost on the road in Portland in the bottom of the ninth on Tuesday because of an error in the outfield. This defeat, however, squarely rests in the lap of the pitching staff because the game should have never gotten to the point of turning on a botched play in the bottom of the ninth inning. Freshman Jackson Pace pulled the start for the Ducks. In spite of a run by the Pilots in the second inning, Pace pitched well enough into the mid-innings to have the luxury of sitting on a comfortable lead. Meanwhile, the Oregon bats immediately jumped on Portland’s pitching with a Tanner Smith 2-RBI double that gave him the all-time RBI record at Oregon. Ducks drop heartbreaker at Portland Portland scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally to a 10-9 win over Oregon at Joe Etzel Field on Tuesday night. Tanner Smith added the career RBI record to his resume in his first bat driving in a pair on a double for his 138th and 139th RBI. The Ducks' left fielder broke the record of 137 set by Gabe Matthews (2017-2021). The Ducks tacked on a run in the top of the ninth to give them a three-run lead. Bennet Thompson doubled and came around to score on a Portland throwing error. The Pilots rallied with one out in the ninth. A hit, walk and hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before a fielder's choice plated a run for the Pilots. Then with runners at the corners, pinch hitter Justin Tsukada delivered a two-run double to tie the game. It went from bad to worse for the Ducks when Grant dropped what would have been an inning-ending pop out allowing Tsukada to score the winning run. Ducks drop heartbreaker at Portland - University of Oregon Athletics GODUCKS.COM Oregon returns to conference play on Friday at Cal Gavin Grant's two homer night not enough as No. 23 Oregon loses midweek matchup to Portland Fresh off a series victory against No. 9 Stanford, Oregon took on Portland for the second time this season in a midweek matchup. A ninth-inning blown save from Josh Mollerus, the first of the year, gave Portland a 10-9 stunning win over the Ducks. Oregon turned the ball over to Mollerus in the eighth inning, looking for the six-out save. Mollerus struck out the first four batters he faced before a one-out single in the ninth inning began the Pilots' second comeback of the night. Mollerus would walk and hit another batter, loading the bases. A fielder's choice allowed a run to cross, as Oregon led 9-7. Justin Tsukuda, a true freshman, ripped a two-RBI double to right off Mollerus, just his third hit of his career. After the double, the game was knotted, 9-9. Mollerus induced a weak pop-up to Gavin Grant, who dropped the ball amidst the rain, as the winning run crossed home plate. Tuesday marked Oregon's second-midweek loss of the season and dropped them to 24-11 on the season. FOOTBALL PRACTICE REPORT: APRIL 18 During his first season as UO head coach, Dan Lanning described the process of breaking down film and addressing issues from games as "going to the doctor." Identifying and fixing breakdowns isn't always fun. But you've got to take your medicine, even if it doesn't taste great. What's the process like after a spring scrimmage, such as one the Ducks held this past Saturday? No different. "We go to the doctor," Lanning said Tuesday, following the Ducks' first practice since the scrimmage. "We do a write-up just like we would in a normal game. We review the film, we have corrections. All those things are the same." That process largely took place Monday, Lanning said. Come Tuesday, the Ducks were back to work in practice. OL Devin Brooks finalizes third official visit, focused on top three Clackamas (Ore.) offensive lineman Devin Brooks has finalized his third official visit as he focuses on his final three. Brooks has had a solid top three for a couple of months of home-state Oregon, USC and Washington. He had previously lined up official visits to USC on June 16th and to Washington on June 24th. And now with offensive line coach A'Lique Terry firmly in place at Oregon, he's scheduled his visit to see the Ducks. "I'll be going to Oregon on June 10th for my official," said Brooks. Brooks said that Stanford made a push to crack the top three and expand it to a top four, but he's focused on the trio. "I had some time talking to coach Viane (Talamaivao) at Stanford when they offered me but I'm not as interested in Stanford and I'm focused on the three schools," said Brooks. Jamal Hill on transition to LB: '(It) feels like what I was doing when I played nickel' The linebacker play at Oregon was a season-long story over 2022-2023. With spring football fast approaching, Oregon added names to the room, like transfer portal additions Jestin Jacobs and Connor Soelle. Still, one of the most intriguing moves revolved around a player already on the roster: Jamal Hill. The transition to linebacker began soon after the Ducks returned from San Diego with the Holiday Bowl trophy in hand, said Hill after practice on Tuesday. "Me, Coach (Dan) Lanning, Coach (Tosh) Lupoi, my family, we just sat down and talked about it," said Hill. "What would be the best for me moving forward? And that's just the decision we all came up with... I was open to it (the position change) because he (Lanning) told me all I had to do was gain weight. I'm like, 'I know I can do that." "I told them, a lot of the stuff I'm doing now feels like what I was doing when I played nickel," said Hill on Tuesday. "But, I just called coach Lanning and asked what do you think is the best for my future? How can I help the team and still chase my goals too? He said the game is changing, and with people with your body type and your athleticism, you can help a lot of teams in the box. He (Lanning) told me himself he was going to coach me, and Coach Tosh was going to coach me to be the player I can be in the box. And I was all for it." Jamal Hill on transition to LB: '(It) feels like what I was doing when I played nickel' 247SPORTS.COM Jamal Hill continues to embrace the transition from safety to linebacker.
