Freshman tight end Kenyon Sadiq thrust into bigger spring role due to injury True freshman Kenyon Sadiq will act as one of two scholarship tight ends for the remainder of spring workouts. On Saturday, head coach Dan Lanning informed media that top returning tight end Terrance Ferguson had been "shut down" for the final two weeks of spring due to injury, leaving only veteran Patrick Herbert and Sadiq to lead the group through drills and competition periods. Reinforcements won't be able to join the team before the conclusion of spring though, offering Herbert and Sadiq bigger than expected roles for the final seven sessions of spring practice. "Right now I just think he's drinking from a fire hose. There's so much information," Mehringer said on Saturday. "I asked him how much football he's learned in his first two or three months, and he was like 'Coach, I did not see that part coming'. "He's been awesome. He very rarely makes the same mistake twice. He's super conscientious and a very smart kid. I think he's got a lot to show, but I think it's a little early right now. I think these next two weeks for him are going to be really really important." Mase Funa striving to make most of fifth and final collegiate season Mase Funa announced his return for a fifth season shortly after being named defensive MVP of the 2022 Holiday Bowl. While Funa had his answer ready in the postgame press conference, it wasn't a decision he reached on the spot. Prior to the end-of-the-year classic in San Diego, the internal debate had reached its conclusion. "It's all of our dreams to go to the league. That was my fourth year in college and I was looking forward to try and do it with the film that I had," Funa said of his mindset in December. "That was the debate that I had with myself, God and family. My whole plan for getting into college was to graduate and get my diploma and make my parents proud. So it was my goal to make sure I graduated before I went to the league or tried to get to the league. Like I mentioned, the No. 1 goal was to graduate, so I decided to come back." In order to make his professional dreams come true, Funa will have to maximize year five in Eugene. Much of his preparation for that has taken place away from the practice turfs, as improved nutrition and flexibility are top among his priorities. I think Jalil Tucker staying in high school to run track hurt him in his development for last season. Jahlil Florence being with the team last spring really learned a lot of the basics of the position for the college game and elevated his status. I think we will see great improvement from him this fall. Somehow, I always felt Florence was the player they wanted. Remember that Lanning called him as he was walking off the field after winning the Natty!

Transfer Portal Interests for Ducks

It has been hard to find useful articles about Emmanuel Pregnon. The one below is the most informative I have seen. He is the only player in the portal that Oregon has offered so far. Why Wyoming lineman Emmanuel Pregnon has become early hot commodity in spring transfer portal window Similar to what happened during the winter transfer portal cycle with fellow offensive linemen such as Ajani Cornelius (who transferred from Rhode Island to Oregon) and Jeremiah Byers (who went from UTEP to Florida State), the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Pregnon has gone from an unknown to most people on a national level to quickly becoming one of the hottest commodities in the transfer portal. Since entering the transfer portal Saturday, Pregnon has already received several Power 5 offers, including from Oregon, Ole Miss, UCLA, Arizona, Purdue and Illinois. Based on feedback shared with On3, there are plenty of other upper-tier teams very interested as well. “He’s big, he’s powerful, he moves well and he has multiple years (of eligibility remaining),” an SEC offensive line coach told On3. “That’s what everybody’s looking for. I know he’s a weight room guy. He’s just yoked up. Not really any fat if I’m not mistaken. You can tell he’s got a high ceiling, a huge ceiling.” Why Wyoming lineman Emmanuel Pregnon has become early hot commodity in spring transfer portal window - On3 WWW.ON3.COM Just months removed from his first season as a starting right guard for Wyoming, Emmanuel Pregnon could become the latest... -

Oregon Ducks’ ‘eyes open’ as spring transfer window opens With the spring transfer window opening on Saturday, Oregon quickly had three players announce their departures. More roster churn is expected with the Ducks projected to have 88 scholarship players in the fall — three over the limit. But with two weeks of spring practice still remaining, including the April 29 spring game, Oregon also has an opportunity to host prospective transfers for official and unofficial visits. Wyoming offensive line transfer Emmanuel Pregnon was the only player to enter the portal on Saturday to claim an offer from UO. The Ducks are going to pursue a tight end transfer, a matter made all the more urgent with Terrance Ferguson suffering an unspecified injury that will keep him out for the remainder of spring. “Always, always, always going to look for opportunities to enhance our program,” Lanning said, “if the right people present themself.” Oregon Ducks’ ‘eyes open’ as spring transfer window opens WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM With two weeks of spring practice still remaining, including the April 29 spring game, Oregon also has an opportunity to host... -
Ducks Drop Finale, Settle For Series Win Over No. 7 Stanford Oregon settled for a weekend series win over No. 7 Stanford after dropping the finale on Sunday, 6-4, before 1,351 fans at PK Park. After two dominant starts in a pair of wins to open the series, the Ducks (24-10) were undone by a season-high 10 walks Sunday. Two came with the bases loaded, helping the Cardinal rally back from an early 4-0 deficit. "You don't win many games when you walk 10," UO head coach Mark Wasikowski said. The Cardinal entered the weekend tied for first place in the Pac-12, and Oregon was fifth. The series win moved the Ducks into a tie for fourth with USC at 9-6, 2.5 games behind first-place Arizona State. The Sun Devils open a three-game series at PK Park beginning April 28, with the second game of the series to be played following Oregon's spring football game in Autzen Stadium. Ducks Drop Finale, Settle For Series Win Over No. 7 Stanford - University of Oregon Athletics GODUCKS.COM Oregon was undone by 10 walks surrendered in a 6-4 loss on Sunday. Walks loom large as Oregon drops series finale to No. 7 Stanford A banner weekend for the Oregon baseball program nearly got even better on Sunday. But, after clinching a series win on Saturday, the Ducks squandered an early lead in the finale and missed out on a chance to sweep one of the top teams in the nation. Oregon fell, 6-4, to No. 7 Stanford Sunday at PK Park in Eugene. With the loss, UO fell to 24-10 on the year and 9-6 in Pac-12 play. The Cardinal, meanwhile, kept pace in the Pac-12 title race and improved to 23-10 on the year and 11-4 in conference play. Sabin Ceballos went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Ducks. Bryce Boettcher, who is also a walk-on defensive back for Oregon’s football team, got his fourth consecutive start in right field and went 1-for-3 with a home run. But Oregon’s pitching staff walked 10 batters on the day. Ultimately, the free passes proved costly. Former Georgia DL Bear Alexander could be transfer target for Ducks Whenever a defensive player for the Georgia Bulldogs enters the transfer portal, ears start to perk up in Eugene, Oregon. So on Saturday, when freshman DL Bear Alexander, a former high-end 4-star recruit announced that he was looking for a new team, some ideas started to formulate in Eugene. Of course, the Ducks don’t necessarily have a need on the defensive line, but head coach Dan Lanning has long said that if they see a player in the portal who they think can make them better, then they are going to do what they can to try and get him. Alexander fits that billing. Although he played in just 8 games as a true freshman, Bear broke out in the national championship game, notching two sacks against the TCU Horned Frogs in Georgia’s blowout victory. We will see over the coming days and weeks if the Ducks end up reaching out to Alexander and trying to get him to Eugene, but this is certainly a name to be aware of.
