  1. Cali DB Nikko Klemm has BYU, West Virginia and several Pac-12 schools pushing hard Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Nikko Klemm made the move to SoCal this off-season and should be an immediate impact player for the Cavs. Klemm played his junior season at Eugene (Ore.) Sheldon. His father Adrian Klemm was the OL coach for the Oregon Ducks last season and is now coaching with the New England Patriots. The younger Klemm is from the Southern California area so he’s essentially moving back home. He’s a talented cover corner with the positional versatility to play anywhere in the secondary. We had a chance to see him at the SUP7R tournament two weeks ago to get an update on where his recruitment was at. 2. A bill proposed in the Oregon state House is targeting fan behavior at college sporting events and would hold coaches and athletic directors accountable if fans act out. Under the proposed bill, coaches such as Dan Lanning, Jonathan Smith, Dana Altman and Scott Rueck and athletic directors such as Rob Mullens and Scott Barnes could face one-week suspensions if fans at Oregon or Oregon State games “engage in the use of derogatory or inappropriate names, insults, verbal assaults, profanity or ridicule in violation of equity focused policies.” Public universities in Oregon could also lose state grants, state scholarship money and support from the Oregon State Police if they fail to enact and enforce policies that address such language that occurs at school events, including sporting events, under House bill 2472. 3. Bennett Williams highlights what Evan Williams will bring to Oregon's defense in 2023 When asked which of the players on Oregon’s current roster he’s most excited to watch next season, former Ducks’ defensive back Bennett Williams gave a slight smile before responding. “There’s a kid with the last name Williams,” he quipped. That, of course, would be Evan Williams, the younger brother of Bennett, who spent the past four seasons starring at Fresno State before opting to transfer to Oregon during the offseason. During his time with the Bulldogs, Evan flashed an exciting mix of physicality and football IQ while lining up all over the field. According to PFF, he played 251 snaps at free safety, 196 at box safety, and 91 at nickel corner last fall. His utilization within Fresno State’s defense and statistical production is similar to what Bennett Williams accomplished with the Ducks in 2022. 6. Assessing Jordon Riley's performance at Oregon Pro Day Oregon Ducks defensive lineman Jordon Riley was most likely not on NFL scouts’ immediate radar, but after the Oregon Pro Day event held inside the Moshofsky Center, Riley might now be a blip on that radar screen. The big 6-foot-5, 338-pounder showed his speed and agility with good times in the 40-yard dash and in the 10-yard split. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to show his strength as he skipped the bench presses. Assessing Jordon Riley's performance at Oregon Pro Day DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon defensive lineman Jordon Riley had a nice Pro Day and now scouts have the big 338-pounder on their radar. Assessing Ryan Walk's performance at Oregon Pro Day There are many reasons to have these so-called “Pro Days” at various campuses nationwide. NFL scouts get to see up close what the potential draft picks can do and write down whatever measurements they need to in order to make a decision come draft time. But sometimes an athlete catches their eye that the scouts weren’t necessarily expecting to shine. Oregon offensive lineman Ryan Walk may have been one of those athletes. Assessing Ryan Walk's performance at Oregon Pro Day DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Ryan Walk’s impressive pro day may have improved his standing among the NFL scouts who attended the event in the Mo Center.
  7. Can short-handed Oregon men’s basketball avenge loss to UC Irvine, advance in NIT? If Oregon is going to get revenge against UC Irvine for its Nov. 11 home loss to the Anteaters, the Ducks are going to need to shoot much better from three-point range, which has been a season-long issue, and manage to do that without guards Jermaine Couisnard and Will Richardson and possibly center N’Faly Dante. The latest round of injuries for the Ducks typifies a season that has been defined in large part by who wasn’t available at any given time. 8. Kennedy Basham to miss WNIT opener, everyone else cleared to play Freshman reserve center Kennedy Basham is not expected to play in Oregon's WNIT debut against North Dakota State on Friday. Head coach Kelly Graves chose not to get into details, but did suggest she could return for future games should the team advance. "I don't think Kennedy will be available for Friday," said Graves, who clarified it would be an injury absence and not anything else. "We're hoping [she can play]." The 6-foot-7 true freshman has appeared in 16 games this season and has averaged 1.8 points per game and 1.4 rebounds per game, while also blocking 1.3 shots per game. She blocked three shots in seven minutes in the team's loss to Stanford. 9. Oregon baseball hosts Niagara in midweek matchup Oregon hasn't announced its starter yet for Wednesday's matchup but with midweek games comes an opportunity for younger players to showcase their talents. Oregon has not had a midweek game this season, so it's unclear what the pitching rotation will look like for Wednesday specifically but in years past, head coach Mark Wasikowski has shown a tendency to work multiple pitchers into games who don't often see normal playing time. Pitchers like Turner Spoljaric, Jacob Hughes, and Logan Olsen, amongst others will likely get a look on Wednesday.
