  1. Oregon softball’s leading hitter Hanna Delgado expected to return to lineup at Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Oregon’s leading hitter is expected to return to the lineup in time for the toughest nonconference weekend of the season. Outfielder Hanna Delgado, who led the Ducks with a .364 average and team-high 16 stolen bases last season, went 3 for 7 (.429) during the first two games of the season but missed the final three at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge and last weekend’s Cartier/Campbell Classic in San Diego with an unspecified injury. 2. Pac-12 Is Getting Roasted For Tuesday's Apple TV+ News Reports emerged Tuesday that the league may have found a potential partner in Apple TV+. If true, that doesn't seem like it'll be very popular with fans. Looks like OBDF readers are not the only ones not favoring this news... Click here to read reactions in article from Athlon Sports.
  3. Young pitchers shine in Oregon’s season-opening sweep of Xavier There’s still a long way to go, of course. But after the Ducks secured a four-game sweep of the Xavier Musketeers, initial indications are positive — particularly in the pitching department. There’s no sugarcoating that the Ducks were going to need their freshman pitchers to step up. An already uncertain pitching staff has been beleaguered by injuries to Isaac Ayon and RJ Gordon, leaving a boatload of freshmen to slide in and prove their worth. This weekend, they did just that. Eight freshmen combined to throw 23 of Oregon’s 34 innings, giving up only two earned runs, total. Three more innings were pitched by transfers, leaving just eight innings thrown by members of last year’s team. And four of those eight innings were pitched by Logan Mercado, a reliever who isn’t used to being in the rotation yet. This staff has an almost entirely new look — and so far, it’s worked. 5. UO RETURNS TO MKA TO HOST NO. 14 ARIZONA After a four-game road trip, Oregon returns to Matthew Knight Arena for its final two home games of the season. The Ducks host No. 14 Arizona Thursday before the home finale Saturday against Arizona State. UO hopes to end its season-long seven-game losing streak after dropping both games to the Washington schools last week. The Wildcats mark the Ducks' ninth game against a ranked team this season. Arizona claimed the season's first matchup in Tucson, 79-71, when both squads were ranked in the nation's top 20. Oregon leads the all-time series 45-32 and has won 11 of the last 15 meetings. 6. Oregon still listed among teams on the NCAA Tournament Bubble Oregon is 15-13 on the season and are 9-8 in league play going into their one and only game this weekend, a road slate at rival Oregon State. Having lost four of their last six games the outside perception is that the Ducks should be out of the NCAA Tournament discussion, yet they still are hanging around and giving themselves a chance. How likely is that chance at making it in? It's slim, but the Ducks still have a shot and thus still have life. Even if it is on the brink of falling off. In ESPN.com's latest NCAA Tournament Bracket projections, the Ducks sit as the fifth team out of the NCAA Tournament. So what is ahead of the Ducks and what's a realistic path to the tournament? 7. Oregon WBB drops to First Four Out in latest bracketology projection The new year has not been kind to Oregon, as the women's team is 3-14 since 2023 started. The Ducks are currently riding a seven-game losing streak, seemingly finding every which way to lose a basketball game and zero ways to win one. The Ducks, like the men's program, are coming off a weekend sweep against the Washington schools, losing to the Huskies by eight and the Cougars by seven. With those losses, ESPN's latest bracketology has Oregon falling out of the tournament for the first time since 2016. Oregon has fallen to the "Final Four Out" group, joined by Arkansas, St. John's, and Missouri. 10. What is the Pac-12 actually selling? Ratings without USC, UCLA explain league's struggle to land rights deal Last year, ESPN executive Burke Magnus created a ripple in the industry when he suggested conferences should be focused on cultivating rivalries in college sports rather than worrying about market size. "The amount of time we spend thinking about market size, it pales in comparison to the amount of time we think about rivalries," Magnus said on the Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast. "In college sports, it's the rivalries. It's the traditions. It's the brands that really aggregate audience." To get an idea of the value of such Pac-12 rivalries, CBS Sports found the top 20-rated Pac-12 conference games (not involving USC and/or UCLA) combined over the last two seasons. While a small sample size -- team strength varies from year to year -- it provides a closer look at what the Pac-12 is trying to sell to media rights partners in comparison to other conferences. 12. Oregon Football Signee Spotlight: OL Iapani Laloulu Today's Signee Spotlight will take us to the trenches. We're focusing on 2023 Oregon Ducks offensive line signee Iapani Laloulu. He's the younger brother of Faaope Laloulu and is looking to make a name for himself in Eugene after becoming one of the top interior offensive linemen in the country. The first thing that pops on the film for Laloulu is the raw power he possesses. He has strong hands and is good at hand fighting with defenders, beating their arms down to knock them off balance. Furthermore, when he gets his hands on a defender, he's a difficult blocker to shed. Click here to read about Iapani Laloulu in Ducks Digest.

  17. No. 20 Oregon aims to continue winning ways against UCSB regardless of location Off to its best start since 2016, Oregon has won its first four games of the year before heading south to take on UC Santa Barbara. Oregon and UCSB have traded series for years and never fail to make each one entertaining. The Ducks last traveled to UCSB in 2021, where they swept the No. 15 Gauchos, including a 17-2 drubbing where Kenyon Yovan hit two home runs and drove in five RBIs. This year's matchup will differ in personnel and, potentially, the field itself.
