In a press release, the conference detailed some important numbers that are sure to make eyeballs turn to dollar signs. “The amount distributed from the conference office, excluding bowl expenses retained by participants, averaged $49.9 million per school.” If you think that’s a lot, Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated believes that number will balloon to $60-70 million following the start of the conferences new television deal with ESPN in 2024. Quite simply, the teams who bring back the highest number of players from the previous season will typically be better suited to find success going forward. It’s not hard to see why — continuity often breeds comfortability; if you have players and coaches that are used to playing with each other, and are familiar with the system, then more time can be spent on perfecting intricacies, rather than working to nail down the basics. ESPN recently broke down how many returners each FBS team in the nation has for this season, ranking them based on the overall percentage of holdovers, both on offense and defense. Greg Biggins breaks down what could make 2025 QB prospect Akili Smith Jr. special "Akili Jr. was raised in an Oregon home. Mom actually went to UCLA but from a football standpoint, the kid loves Oregon as well." Smith has prototypical size for the position, he's list at 6-foot-5 (a few inches taller than his father) and 200 pounds, and has arm talent reminiscent of his father. What isn't clear to Biggins is if Smith has a committable offer at this time. The Ducks have sprayed scholarships to other top 2025 quarterback targets.Would they accept a commitment from this legacy recruit today?
