  1. Oregon opens four-game road swing with must-win at USC Oregon (14-9, 5-7) has dropped three straight and 8 of its last 12 games to slip below .500 in Pac-12 play. They now hit the road for two consecutive weekends with Friday's game at the Galen Center acting as the first of four straight away from Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks are now tied for eighth with Washington in the Pac-12 standings. USC (17-6, 7-5) is tied with crosstown rival UCLA in the Pac-12 standings at fifth. They've won six of eight games following a slow start in conference play, which included a 28-point loss to the Ducks in Eugene on Jan. 1. 2. Oregon hosts No. 7 UCLA with high stakes on the line The Oregon men's basketball program has worked itself back into the discussion for the NCAA Tournament and now is looking for that signature win to go from bubble team to inside the field, while also trying to keep their hopes of a Pac-12 regular season championship alive. "This is a big game for our program. We need it. We're on the verge of getting to the postseason," said Oregon senior guard Will Richardson. "They think they got a good chance at getting the Pac-12, we're still fighting for a good spot in the Pac-12 and seeding. It's a big game for us. Our whole team, our whole staff, we know it." 3. Pac-12 expansion: Process moves forward with SMU and San Diego State as top targets The university presidents discussed SMU and San Diego State as expansion candidates during a meeting last week and approved commissioner George Kliavkoff taking the next step in the complicated process of adding membership, according to sources with knowledge of the meeting. Sources emphasized that the approval was informal in nature — the presidents did not vote to add specific schools — but expansion is viewed as highly likely. It is not known if other schools were discussed last week during the Pac-12 presidents' quarterly meeting, held at Arizona State. 4. Can Oregon women’s basketball disrupt USC, snap three-game losing skid? If Oregon is going to snap its three-game losing skid and earn quality wins this weekend in Los Angeles it has to improve defensively, particularly in creating takeaways. Most alarming is conference opponents have a 1.46 assist-to-turnover ratio, with assists on 65.5% of plays and turnovers on just 14.9% of plays, according to HerHoopsStats. Those are both extremes for UO during Kelly Graves’ nine years leading the program and illustrate how Sunday’s 100-92 loss to Utah, which had 29 assists and just 11 turnovers, was not merely an aberration. 5. Ranking Oregon's ten biggest impact newcomers for 2023 Oregon's 2023 roster is not set in stone. Based upon last year, you can't count out this staff's desire to add more players following spring practice. Head coach Dan Lanning made that point clear during last week's Signing Day press conference, noting that they would continue to seek out players who can help make the program better. Today, I've narrowed the 40 new players down to the 10 I believe are set to help the Ducks the most in 2023. These are players who enter at positions of need and therefore have direct paths to immediate field time or players who I believe are simply too talented not to contribute in some capacity in their first years with the program. I'll also note that this exercise is much more challenging than a year ago. The Ducks have loaded up on possible day one contributors. My list of honorable mention picks include transfers who might start immediately along with top 50 prep recruits. 7. Greg Biggins sees Solomon Davis as a sleeper for Oregon's 2023 class In the class of 2023, Oregon features nine three-star recruits. Amongst those nine players is one that 247 Sports National Recruiting Analyst "I like your pick in Solomon Davis," said Biggins in an interview on the Autzen Audibles podcast. "Solomon Davis for me is really good. You know, he's a guy who can't what so much about what we do, is we need to have you know, actual height, weight, speed measurables and verified and we could not get anything on Soloman which was unfortunate. Just his tape, he had four star tape for sure. He's a talented football player, and I really liked him a lot. I love his makeup. Another guy who I think kind of has a chip because I've always been a little bit on the underrated side." 8. Kel'el Ware showing better play after benching two weeks ago Dana Altman has been consistent in his messaging all year about star freshman Kel'el Ware. He's commented the need to get Ware to play with more energy and consistency game to game and week to week. After not playing in a win against Utah two weeks ago because of head coach Altman's decision to sit him, freshman center Kel'el Ware has responded in a big way for the Ducks. "I think he's been good. He's been better in practice," said Dana Altman after the team's 18-point win against USC. 9. Oregon Football Signee Spotlight: TE Kenyon Sadiq Kenyon Sadiq is one of the lesser known players in Oregon's 2023 class but that could change in a hurry. When you turn on the tape you'll see him lining up all over the field, but a lot of his best plays actually come from the receiver spot. He has great speed for his size at 6'3", 220 pounds, which he routinely uses to get behind defenses and outrun defenders. Sadiq also has strong ball skills, climbing the ladder and mossing defensive backs throughout his senior year. One of his best games of the year came against Sandpoint in the Idaho 4A semifinals, when he turned six catches into 246 yards and five touchdowns. 10. Pac-12 "struggling to find partners" for media rights deal Playing the waiting game is appearing to come back and bite the Pac-12 On the expansion side, it appears that San Diego State and SMU are the top candidates to join the conference and may happen sooner rather than later. The piece that was always holding the conference back from expanding was the media rights deal, something that according to The Athletic, is not going well for the conference. The report explained that the Pac-12 is not finding success to find someone willing to pay what they were hoping. Despite the timetable being media rights first then expansion, the article also says there is a possibility expansion will have to happen first in order to know how much money can be made. As this saga continues on, it is safe to say two things. One, Larry Scott is still haunting the Pac-12 despite not being an employee anymore, and secondly, George Kliavkoff's lack of aggression may really hurt the conference in the long run. As The Athletic is a pay site, I wasn't able to read the posted article above but I believe this is what it is about. Doesn't sound good for the Pac-12... 14. Altman on Ducks defense against USC: 'That was one of our better efforts' Oregon’s win highlighted their impressive turnaround that, stop me if you’ve heard this before, they have become better as the season has grown longer.
