  1. Duck defense reaching its ceiling as November looms It had been six decades since Oregon last held Utah without a touchdown. You'd have to look back to that memorable 14-6 win at Autzen Stadium in 1968 to find it. The Utes as a program had not concluded any game without a touchdown since a 10-3 loss to Washington in the 2018 Pac-12 Championship Game. As Dan Lanning said shortly after Saturday's 35-6 win, the Ducks put together their best overall performance since he took over last year, and that was especially true when the Utes possessed the football. "I think of all the games I've experienced since I've been here, our defense capitalized on putting out the fire," Lanning said. Utah reached the red zone just twice. Once following Oregon's first lost fumble of the season, and a second time with a short field. Both trips resulted in field goals. The Utes amassed just 241 total yards, had no drives span more than 53 yards and turned it over twice after giving it away just four times over the season's first seven games. How close is this to the best these Ducks can play? 4. 7 major takeaways from No. 8 Oregon's demolishing 35-6 win over No. 13 Utah If there were any doubts about how good this Oregon Ducks team can be going into Saturday, there shouldn’t be anymore. After a non-conference slate that featured very few major tests, and a loss in their biggest game so far this year up in Seattle, Dan Lanning and the Ducks faced a major test in Week 9, traveling to a hostile Salt Lace City environment to take on the No. 13 Utah Utes, a team that almost never loses at home. It’s hard to picture things going any better for the Ducks. They jumped out to an early lead, and leaned on a suffocating defense to keep the Utes out of the endzone for the entire game, going on to a dominant 35-6 win. It gave us a clear front-runner in the Pac-12 Conference, a clear-cut candidate for the Heisman Trophy, and a ton of answered questions about who this Oregon team really is. Here are some of our biggest takeaways from the game... 7 major takeaways from No. 8 Oregon’s demolishing 35-6 win over Utah DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM 7 major takeaways from No. 8 Oregon’s demolishing 35-6 win over No. 13 Utah
  5. Jon Gold: Oregon's Dan Lanning keeps a pitch-perfect perspective after definitive win at No. 13 Utah Judging by the guns a sleeveless Kyle Whittingham bared on Friday in a surprise visit to ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show, the No. 8 Oregon Ducks had to know they would be in for a fight on Saturday on the road at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Whittingham was the star of the show Friday, riding onto the set on a Harley, challenging the similarly sleeveless McAfee to an arm-wrestling contest. And winning. The No. 13 Utah Utes have been dealt blow after blow this year, most glaringly with the season-ending injuries to arguably their 3 best offensive players — quarterback Cam Rising, tight end Brant Kuithe and running back Micah Bernard — but Whittingham’s Utes don’t know the definition of the word quit. So Dan Lanning and the Ducks knew they’d have to be particularly feisty against the claw-your-eyes-out Utes. It wasn’t too much of a surprise, then, to see them choose to receive the opening kickoff. What happened next? A surprise... Bo Nix has his Heisman moment in blowout victory in Salt Lake City Oregon quarterback Bo Nix led Oregon's offense to a blowout win over the Utes in Salt Lake City and in the process further solidified his Heisman Trophy candidacy. 11. Instant Reactions: Oregon's hot start allows for a thrashing of Utah Oregon coming out of Utah with a win would have been nice, but no one expected them to win quite like this. The Ducks dominated the Utes for four quarters in Salt Lake City and Oregon goes back to Eugene with a 35-6 victory. They’re now 7-1 overall, 4-1 in conference, and have the bragging rights, for now, as the best team in the Pac-12. The win also broke Utah’s 18-game home winning streak. It was a given that Oregon would put points on the board, but the Duck defense completely stifled Utah’s offense and held them to single figures. 16. There has been a sign-stealing epidemic in college football. The biggest story in college football right now has been the sign-stealing saga that is swirling around the Michigan football program. Both the NCAA and FBI are now involved in investigating what has been revealed to be an intricate plan by an analyst to scout possible future opponents of the Wolverines. Something that has caused a stir since in-game sign-watching is a commonality, but doing so in person when your team isn't playing someone is against the rules. However, USC head coach Lincoln Riley recently brought attention to Utah after their loss to the Utes thanks to a last-second field goal, and it wasn't to talk about his team's struggles on defense against a pig farmer at quarterback. Instead, when asked about his unique sign-relaying system to Caleb Williams on offense that included having a screen shielding Riley, the Trojan head coach revealed it had nothing to do with Michigan, but more so to do with Utah. Riley explained that Utah "does a good job of trying to grab signals." To access more details to this story, click here.
  17. Dylan Williams and Long Beach Poly Capture Moore League Title Winning the Moore league was a goal for Williams heading into his senior year, but he's got bigger fish to fry. The Southern California standout is committed to Dan Lanning and the Ducks, but continues to be recruited by a number of big-time programs. "Yeah Miami, Utah, Penn State. Michigan State is in there heavy, UCLA and there's a few schools." As was the case earlier this fall, Williams reaffirmed his commitment and is looking forward to enrolling early. "But I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm 100% a Duck lock. I'll be enrolling early, so I'll be on campus January 6 getting ready to hopefully get bigger, faster, stronger so I can compete for a spot. "We're losing a few key pieces this year, so I just want an opportunity to be able to compete. The coaches felt like that would be a heavy stepping stone for me to get a chance is come early." 19. The Oregon Ducks aren’t the only team in the nation that breaks out fancy uniforms and helmets each week. In fact, the Utah Utes are one of the other teams in the Pac-12 who regularly take creative licensing over their logo and color scheme, regularly coming up with alternate uniforms or helmets. I think that Oregon fans have to respect it. This weekend, it appears that the Utes will be breaking out some special hand-painted helmets for their top-15 showdown against the Ducks in Salt Lake City. The helmets celebrate “The Muss,” which is a nod to Utah’s student fan club and athletic teams on campus. Here’s a closer look at the helmets, as well as some of the reactions to the special-edition lids on social media. What do you think? I think it is the most unusual design I've ever seen and not necessarily in a complimentary way...
