  1. ESPN 'College GameDay' crew picks winner between No. 9 Oregon and Washington State It’s been quite a few weeks for the ESPN ‘College GameDay’ crew. In Week 6, they were down at the Cotton Bowl for the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas. Last week, they were up in Seattle for the Cascade Clash between Oregon and Washington. Now, this week they will be in Columbus for the showdown between Penn State and Ohio State. Nothing wrong with that schedule. While the ‘GameDay’ crew welcomed former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud on as the guest picker, the group went through the biggest games of the week and made their official picks. Here’s who they picked to win the game between the Oregon Ducks and Washington State Cougars... 3. 5 THINGS TO WATCH: WSU The No. 9 Oregon football team will try to rebound from its first loss of the season when the Ducks return home to host Washington State in Autzen Stadium on Saturday. The Ducks (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) saw a five-game winning streak to open the season end last weekend in Seattle. The Cougars (4-2, 1-2) also are looking to get right after dropping their past two games, to UCLA and Arizona. Oregon leads the all-time series between the two, 51-42-7, including 22-18-4 in Eugene. The Ducks have won four straight in the series, on the heels of a four-game WSU winning streak from 2015-18. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 12:40 p.m. kickoff on ABC, with play by play from Bob Wischusen, analysis from Greg McElroy and sideline reporting by Molly McGrath. 4. Oregon Football Visitor List vs. Washington State More big-time talent is making its way out to Eugene this weekend. Dan Lanning and the Ducks are bringing in a smaller, but strong group of recruits this weekend for their game against the Washington State Cougars. This is a relatively small group that I've seen so far, but it's loaded with star powers. I'll work on updating this list as I can confirm more names, but this is what I have for this weekend... 5. How would the BCS rank Oregon heading into Week 8 of the 2023 season? What about old rankings, though? There is a popular account on Twitter/X that goes back to “an era when the Harris Interactive Poll was really important to college football,” and brings those rankings to the present day, though that may have been a time that is frustrating for some fans, particularly in Eugene. We’re talking about the BCS era, a time when there wasn’t a committee of voters who decided the final rankings each year, but rather a set of computers that calculated the final rankings based on numerous formulas that often led to convolution and controversy. Just for our entertainment, we wanted to look at how those BCS standings would look if there in practice today. Take a look... How would the BCS rank Oregon heading into Week 8 of the 2023 season? 6. Five-Star DL Aydin Breland Talks Oregon Commitment, What's Next Last week there was a commitment that sent shockwaves throughout the recruiting world. Five-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland committed to Dan Lanning and the Ducks, becoming the new headliner in Oregon's 2024 recruiting class. Ducks Digest was in Costa Mesa Thursday night for Mater Dei vs. Orange Lutheran and caught up with Breland to discuss his decision. "It was really tough coming down to the final three," Breland reflected. "My grandma had, on Sunday the week before the commitment, she was expressing to me how she wanted me to stay home so she could get to a game and the travel not be as hard on her. And I was like there's only one else to do now. It was at the point to where it could go either way, so that's just the way it went." But the newest Oregon commit made it clear that his grandmother wasn't the only reason he chose the Ducks... To access the details in the article, click here.
  7. Four-star LB Brayden Platt selected to play in 2024 Polynesian Bowl Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt has been selected to play in the 2024 Polynesian Bowl, it was announced on Friday. The Oregon commit was thrilled with the invitation. "It means a lot to me to be selected for the game," said Platt. "I have watched the Poly Bowl the past few years, I knew a few of the people last year from Washington who were invited and played." Platt is looking for one final opportunity to show his skills before beginning college football. "It means a lot to be invited as I feel like it will give me an opportunity to get better," said Platt... 8. A former Oregon State Beaver replaces a former Oregon Duck with the New York Giants A former Oregon Duck and former Oregon State Beaver were involved when the New York Giants made changes to their offensive line Thursday. The Giants’ offensive line has been decimated by injuries this season, with the latest being former Duck Shane Lemieux. Lemieux tore a bicep muscle during practice Wednesday and the Giants placed him on injured reserve the following day. The Giants added former Beaver Sean Harlow by signing him off the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad. Harlow was with the Giants during training camp, but was released before he signed with the Cowboys. 11. Ducks Wire Roundtable: Predictions, opinions for No. 9 Oregon vs. Washington State We knew entering the second half of the season for the Oregon Ducks, and though the last week saw the first loss of the 2023 season come, every goal that Dan Lanning and his team had coming into this year is still very attainable. A trip to the Pac-12 Championship Game? That can happen. A spot in the College Football Playoff? it could be in the cards if the Ducks can win out from here. With six games down, and six more regular season games to go, there is still plenty possible for this Oregon squad. That starts this coming week with a homecoming game against the Washington State Cougars. Though it’s a matchup that has lost a little bit of luster after the Cougars dropped their last two games, it’s still one that will present a challenge for Oregon, with QB Cameron Ward bringing his unique rushing ability to Autzen to try and upset the Ducks. To preview the action, Ducks Wire writers Zachary Neel and Miles Dwyer made predictions and offered opinions on what we might see. Here is your sixth regular-season Ducks Wire roundtable of the 2023 season. Enjoy... 12. 5 Washington State Cougars to watch out for this Saturday The Oregon Ducks are coming off of one of their toughest losses in recent memory, but they won’t continue to focus on Washington. Instead, they’re looking to the Huskies in-state rivals down in Pullman. Washington State has dropped their last two games — first to UCLA and then to Arizona. While they’ve been struggling, they are still a talented team and will be looking to regain some momentum for their season against Oregon. Furthermore, the Ducks mounted a monster comeback against the Cougars in 2022, so Washington State will be looking to exact revenge in Eugene on Saturday. While the Cougars are full of talented players, I’ve picked the five that I think can/will have the biggest impact on the outcome of Saturday’s game. T These are definitely names you’ll want to know for Week 8 in Eugene... 13. 3 Keys to victory for the Ducks against Washington State on Saturday Six days ago, the Oregon Ducks suffered their first loss of 2023, and it was a painful one. On Saturday, they’ll try to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive by beating the Washington State Cougars, who got off to a hot start this season, but have lost their last two games. A lot like last weekend, the story for this game could be a tale of two quarterbacks. Before the Cougars’ struggles began, their QB, Cameron Ward, had made his way into Heisman conversations across the country, despite being on virtually no one’s radar in the preseason. On the other sideline, Bo Nix will try to keep his run of quality play going to lead the Ducks to 6-1. Washington State is a fun, fast, and talented team, so despite their losing streak, this won’t be a team that rolls over for Oregon. In order for the Ducks to beat the Cougars, there are three things I think the Ducks need to do that I’ve listed below... 15. Four-star OT Fox Crader solid to Oregon Vancouver (Wash.) Evergreen offensive tackle Fox Crader remains solid in his commitment to Oregon. While he committed to the Ducks when Adrian Klemm was still the offensive line coach, schools started to really ramp things up when Klemm left for the NFL. But Crader wanted to give first-year offensive line coach A'Lique Terry a chance to build a relationship. Terry did that. And then some. "I think my relationship with coach Terry has really exceeded my expectations," said Crader. "And then the job he's doing this year, that exceeded my expectations too. I went to the spring game and they were still gelling but now they're really gelling." The 6-6, 290-pounder said that relationship has been key in Oregon staving off other suitors... 16. Oregon Set to Host Five-Star Safety Against Washington State, Report Oregon will have a five-star visitor this weekend. 2025 Tampa (Fla.) Zephryhills safety DJ Pickett will be in Eugene this weekend for a visit when the Ducks take on Washington State, according to a report from Chad Simmons of On3 Sports. Pickett is rated a five-star (0.9966) recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 9 player nationally, the No. 1 safety and the No. 2 recruit in Florida. He stands 6'2" and weighs 170 pounds and has garnered 40 reported scholarship offers during his high school career. Pickett last took a visit to Oregon back in June, so a return trip is a good sign for where the Ducks stand in his recruiting process. He hasn't narrowed his recruitment to a top group of schools, but getting him back on campus for a strong visit could go a long way in Dan Lanning solidifying the Ducks as one of his top suitors. Oregon's 2025 recruiting class currently sits at four verbal commitments and is ranked No. 8 in the country according to 247Sports, headlined by Tampa (Fla.) Bay Tech four-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson. The class will likely grow however, as five-star Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain defensive lineman and Oregon commit Tony Cumberland told Ducks Digest following his commitment that he plans to reclassify from 2026 to 2025. The Ducks have yet to land a commitment from a safety in the 2025 class but they're also heavily recruiting Pittsburg (Calif.) All-American selection Jadyn Hudson, who visited Eugene for the Colorado game. To acess the article and see highlights, click here. 22. Series History: Oregon vs. Washington State has featured some wild finishes As fans are still reeling from the loss up at Washington, the Oregon Ducks are preparing to host Washington State. While this annual matchup might not hold as much weight as the Cascade Clash, there is a lot of history between these two teams. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the history of this matchup is the classic game that occurred in Pullman last year. The Ducks were down big in the second half, and for a while, it looked like Dan Lanning and Co. would pick up an early second loss on the season. But, Bo Nix and the offense really started to rally, the Ducks took the lead in the final minutes and then sealed the game on a Mase Funa pick-six. Obviously, there is a lot more history to this matchup than just that game. The two teams have played 93 times since 1901 when they matched up for the first time. The Ducks have an all-time record of 53-40 against the Cougars and are currently on a four-game win streak. Oregon Football: Series history between Oregon and.
