Column: Ducks display patience in win over Cougars, sending message to fans in the process Phil Knight seemed to be in a much better mood as this game wound down to a close. Just a week after he watched his Oregon Ducks lose in frustrating fashion from the visiting sideline of Husky Stadium as a light drizzle started to come down, the Nike Co-Founder was in a lighter mood as he enjoyed the winning side once again. I shared an elevator with Oregon’s biggest donor on Saturday afternoon as he traveled from his suite inside Autzen Stadium down to the field in the fourth quarter of the Ducks game against the Washington State Cougars. He smiled and joked with the several members of his entourage, and struck up a short conversation with the elevator clerk as we descended to the concourse. After exchanging a few words, Knight stood quietly, patiently waiting for the doors to open... Wondering How Our Pro Ducks are Doing?

Watch: Former Oregon Ducks’ star Kayvon Thibodeaux drops easy pick-six for the New York Giants Kayvon Thibodeaux will be working on his pass catching skills during the week. The New York Giants’ edge rusher and former Oregon Ducks’ star had a golden chance for not only the first interception of his career, but also a pick-six during the Giants 14-7 win against Washington Commanders on Sunday. The Giants pressured Commanders’ quarterback Sam Howell deep in his own territory, who recklessly threw an up-for-grabs pass from inside the end zone. All the wide open Thibodeaux had to do is catch the football and there was nothing but green grass in front of him... It’s been nearly a month of marquee time slots for the Oregon Ducks as they go up against stop of the top teams in the Pac-12, and it’s made sense with Dan Lanning and his team drawing some of the most eyeballs in the nation each and every Saturday. That will change slightly going forward, though, with it being announced that the Ducks’ Week 10 game vs. the California Golden Bears will kick off at 2:30 p.m. The game will be played in Autzen Stadium and be broadcast by Pac-12 Network. While this matchup doesn’t hold the hype and flash that we’ve seen for the Ducks over the past few weeks, it could offer a great get-right scenario for Oregon, who will be coming off of high-intensity games vs. Washington, Washington State, and Utah. After the Cal game, Oregon gets set to host the USC Trojans and Oregon State Beavers in a three-week span, with a trip down to the desert sandwiched in between... What Was Scott Frost Doing There?
Pennsylvania Duck replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Scott Frost is probably my least favorite. If you want someone to guide you into the B1G, get someone in a more successful program instead of a losing one! Oregon doesn't owe Frost anything, certainly not a position on the staff. -
Stock Report: Jestin Jacobs makes debut, while Bucky Irving bursts onto national stage Saturday’s game against the Washington State Cougars was nowhere near the biggest game that the Oregon Ducks have played, or will play during the 2023 college football season, but it seemingly had one of the biggest impacts thus far when it comes to putting one of its player on the national stage. Running back Bucky Irving took the opportunity and ran with it. In front of a national ABC broadcast, Irving racked up 180 total yards and three touchdowns, with 42- and 43-yard scores on back-to-back drives captivating the television audience and turning the heads of some NFL scouts. Elsewhere, there were a number of highlight performances on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. As we always do, let’s go through our weekly stock report to highlight some of the top players in the contest... BREAKING: Utah's star LB Lander Barton is out for the remainder of the season After a thrilling win, Kyle Whittingham confirmed the worst after the game... Utah has lost linebacker Lander Barton for the season after suffering a season-ending injury tonight. The reigning Pac-12 defensive freshman of the year is lost and that's a tough blow for the Utes. Barton left the game in the 4th quarter and was seen on the sideline with a shoe off, while limping heavily. After the game, he also exited the locker room with a boot on his right foot and on crutches. Barton has been a big leader for Utah this season. He does and means so much to this defense. Barton is a fantastic football player but he brings so much from a mental standpoint that often goes unnoticed. He's been a leader and an emerging quarterback of the defense this season. Barton was really rounding into form and even had one of his better games of the season tonight. Now, it's going to be tough to replace all that Barton brought to the field but Utah does have depth at linebacker. That depth is headlined by a previous Pac-12 All-Conference selection in Levani Damuni. The Utes also have Sione Fotu and Justin Medlock, both of whom will need to step up the rest of the season. They provide different skills and traits but Colton Swan will need to get the most out of his group the rest of the season. This is yet another brutal loss this season, Utah is now approaching double-digit figures for season-ending injuries. Barton is the second starting member of the defensive unit to be lost for the year after Logan Fano was lost a few weeks ago. Bounceback win over Washington State keeps Ducks in thick of Pac-12 title race The ninth-ranked Ducks played far from a perfect game their first time on the field after last weekend's loss in Seattle.Penalties, miscues and a missed field goal allowed the visiting Cougars to take a first half lead. Then the home team's dominance resurfaced. The Ducks ran the ball down the Cougars throats, stifled Cameron Ward's heroics and dominated the middle two quarters to soar to a two-score win over Washington State. "I think they came out and they took a team's best punch. Washington State played really hard today too, and they had some big moments within that game," Oregon coach Dan Lanning said after the 38-24 home win. "I don't think our guys ever got rattled. They stayed focused in the moment and that's really what playing great football is about being one-play focus." On a Saturday where the league's other Pac-12 title favorites wavered, the Ducks took care of business. They ran for a season-high against FBS competition, didn't turn the ball over and made the Cougars work for their points... 3 takeaways from Utah's walk-off win over USC at the Coliseum Utah has won four straight games against USC. The Utes beat the Trojans twice last season — once in Salt Lake City and then again in the Pac-12 title game to capture the program’s second consecutive conference title. Saturday night in Los Angeles, Utah played the role of spoiler again for Lincoln Riley and the 18th-ranked Trojans. Utah roared to a 28-14 second-half lead and then survived a rally from USC in the fourth quarter. A pick-six and a huge punt return gave the Trojans all the momentum and eventually a 32-31 lead. But Utah, led by Bryson Barnes, had one last push at the end of the game and drove to set up a walk-off 38-yard field goal from Cole Becker to win 34-32. The win keeps No. 14 Utah (6-1, 3-1 Pac-12) very much alive in the Pac-12 title discussion this season. And while USC (6-2, 4-1 Pac-12) isn’t yet out of the conference title race, the Trojans’ College Football Playoff hopes are all but dashed with a second loss in as many weeks. Here are three takeaways from the game...I wonder, where are the pundits who wrote USC was a CFB Playoff team? 3 takeaways from Utah’s walk-off win over USC at the Coliseum SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Utah kicked a field goal as time expired to knock of USC on the road and keep its dream of a Pac-12 three-peat alive.

Gold: USC lets College Football Playoff hopes -- and Caleb Williams' Heisman hopes -- slip away in last-second loss to Utah Caleb Williams sat on the USC bench in silence biting his cheek, frowning a familiar frown. Then he tossed his head back and put his head in his hands. The realization washed over him in real time. And now the Trojans’ time has run out. Utah’s 34-32 last-second win at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Saturday night in front of a stunned crowd all but ends USC’s College Football Playoff dreams, just about certainly ends Williams’ repeat Heisman Trophy hopes and most certainly casts a pall over a season that began with immense promise. For weeks, the Trojans felt things slipping from their grasp. An uninspiring win at Arizona State. A worrisome win at Colorado. Needing three overtimes to beat Arizona at home. A definitive loss at Notre Dame. And now this Gold: USC lets College Football Playoff hopes — and Caleb Williams’ Heisman hopes — slip away in last-second loss to Utah SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM USC played with fire for far too long, and now for the second straight week -- and for the third time in two years against Utah --...

Bucky Irving shines as Oregon topples Washington State, 38-24 Oregon will be under pressure every single game until the end of the season. That was shown in today’s 38-24 victory over Washington State. Pressure because the Ducks’ are just one loss away from being effectively eliminated from the college football playoff. Pressure to keep Bo Nix’s name alive as a Heisman candidate. Pressure to maintain head coach Dan Lanning’s self proclaimed “Oregon standard.” But as Bucky Irving burst through the Washington State defense on his way to his third touchdown of the game, the pressure was lifted from the Ducks’ back Saturday afternoon... Recap: Oregon's running game dominates in win over Washington State After accumulating his fourth loss so far as Oregon’s head coach, the question about how this team would bounce back after a loss showed up again for Dan Lanning. None of the three Ducks losses last season were consecutive, so how would this year’s team respond? Saturday, we found out in what ended up as a 38-24 victory for the Ducks (6-1, 3-1 Pac-12) at Autzen Stadium. Washington State came to town hoping for its own bounce-back performance after an abysmal beatdown against Arizona last week. The once-ranked Cougs were given the challenging task of figuring out Oregon’s high-powered offense. The Huskies struggled to do so last week but figured it out on crucial fourth-down tries. The failed attempts from last week may cause some sort of change in play calling. The 3-point loss very well could have been avoided had just one of those three attempts been converted. Recap: Oregon's running game dominates in win over Washington State OREGON.RIVALS.COM The Ducks had two 100-yard rushers in their 14-point victory over Washington State on Saturday at Autzen Stadium.

9 Major Takeaways: Oregon rolls to a 38-24 win behind Bucky Irving's big game The Oregon Ducks needed a win like this. After their brutal loss to the Washington Huskies a week ago, Dan Lanning and his team were in need of a bounce-back opportunity, one in which they got tested, for certain, but never really had the outcome placed in doubt. That’s what they got on Saturday afternoon in front of a sold-out Autzen Stadium as the Ducks rolled to a 38-24 win over the Washington State Cougars. The number on the scoreboard looks closer than the game really was, with Cameron Ward and the Cougars adding a late touchdown with 52 seconds left in the game to make it a respectable score, and ultimately cover the betting spread. There were some ups and downs in this game and a lot of things that it’s clear Oregon needs to clean up over the next week before going to Salt Lake City to face a dangerous Utah team.
