Jon Gold: Oregon gambles away Battle in Seattle as Huskies take control of Pac-12 It was billed as the Game of the Year, but in the historic and heated rivalry between the two Pacific Northwest powers, Saturday’s Battle in Seattle between No. 7 Washington and No. 8 was more like the Fight of the Century. And like any of the great title bouts of our time, this one had a bevy of body blows, plenty of gambling and one fitting knockout blow by the Man Who Would Be Heisman, Michael Penix Jr. It’s not fair to say Washington outlasted Oregon, as the Ducks had their chance to put the Huskies away at the end. No, this one was slugged out in last-punch-wins fashion. Kalen DeBoer and the Huskies are left standing. Dan Lanning and the Ducks are left second-guessing. And Pac-12 fans are left wanting — wanting to see these two heavyweights slug it out in Las Vegas for the final conference title game. Two snippets of coverage from Saturday’s slugfest tell the tale... 3 takeaways from a heavyweight collision that sees Washington outlast Oregon Regardless of your allegiances, that game lived up to the billing. Washington against Oregon. Kalen DeBoer against Dan Lanning. Michael Penix Jr. against Bo Nix. Huskies against Ducks. The latest chapter in the border war was one of the best, and it went right down to the bitter end. Oregon created a chance for itself to tie the game as time expired and force overtime. Duck kicker Camden Lewis had enough length on his 43-yard kick to make it, but he just pushed it outside the uprights. And that sent Husky fans into a frenzy, storming the field to celebrate a second consecutive victory over their rivals. The seventh-ranked Huskies (6-0, 3-0 Pac-12) survived the eighth-ranked Ducks (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) for a 36-33 win. Here are three takeaways from the game... 3 takeaways from a heavyweight collision that sees Washington outlast Oregon SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Washington outlasts Oregon in a game that had massive expectations and still managed to live up to the billing.

Social media reacts to No. 8 Oregon's heartbreaking 36-33 loss to No. 7 Washington Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks ended up falling to the Washington Huskies, 36-33, up in Seattle. The Ducks had a chance to send it into overtime with a 43-yard field goal, but it sailed wide right, giving the Huskies the victory. DUCKS DROP HEARTBREAKER AT UW Oregon's first Pac-12 loss came in dramatic fashion to rival Washington for the second year in a row, as the Huskies scored the go-ahead touchdown with 98 seconds left to beat the Ducks on Saturday at Husky Stadium, 36-33. Down 29-18 early in the third quarter, the Ducks rallied into the lead with two touchdowns and some stout defense, including a goal-line stand while up 33-29 with 6:18 to play. But Oregon was stopped on fourth down for the third time in the game at midfield with 2:11 left, Washington quickly drove to the winning score and the Ducks missed a potential game-tying field goal as time expired. Instant Reactions: Missed opportunities lead to Oregon's downfall This game between two bitter rivals and Top 10 teams for the first time in the series’ history promised to be one of the great ones. It didn’t disappoint. But ultimately, it’s the Duck fans who will go home disappointed as No. 6 Washington escapes and defeats No. 8 Oregon 36-33 in what be one of the games of the year in college football. In the end, Camden Lewis’ 43-yard field goal attempt to tie the game sailed right, but it shouldn’t have come to that. Not by a long shot. The Ducks decided to go for it on fourth down from inside the Washington 20-yard line on two separate occasions and came away empty. They also had the chance to punt the ball away with two minutes to go and pin Washington back with no timeouts left and decided to go for it. They didn’t get it. Those three decisions, which Dan Lanning was 0-for-3 on, cost the Ducks a huge victory. Now at 5-1, Oregon is still in a good position for a trip to the Pac-12 championship, but it left zero room for error. The Ducks can only hope they get another shot at the Dawgs... Instant Reactions: Missed opportunities lead to Oregon’s downfall DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Three huge decisions, none of which went Oregon’s way, ultimately cost the Ducks a victory in Seattle.

Ducks fall short in Seattle in thriller, as Camden Lewis' game-tying kick is wide Eighth-ranked Oregon's undefeated season came to an end on Saturday afternoon with the visitors unable to rally in the closing moments. In a game that lived up to the pre-game hype, Washington (6-0, 3-0) took a three-point lead with 1:38 to play in regulation on a Rome Odunze 18-yard touchdown. Bo Nix maneuvered the Oregon offense (5-1, 2-1) down the field in the waning minutes, but Camden Lewis' 43-yard field goal attempt was wound up wide, Washington faithful stormed the field and the Ducks left Seattle with their first blemish of the season. Dan Lanning Taking Heat For Decision In Final Seconds Of First Half Oregon head coach Dan Lanning is hearing it from the college football community on social media right now. It stems from a decision he made at the end of the first half of Saturday's game against Washington. Facing fourth and goal from the three-yard line, Lanning chose to go for it instead of attempting a short field goal. He wanted the lead heading into the half but Washington's defense got the stop, preserving its 22-18 lead. Had Lanning gone for the field goal, Washington would've only been up by one heading into the break. College football fans aren't happy with the decision. To access the details, click here.

New Big Ten scheduling program will increase travel times After Oregon football announced its conference matchups for 2024 through 2028, one thing that stood out was the road trip distance. This season, the team will travel 4,509 miles to play games on the road. Next season, all of that changes. Oregon’s 2024 conference road trip distance is 12,618 miles with just one one-way flight to UCLA being less than 1,000 miles. And that’s the same for all Pac-12 schools joining the Ducks in the new conference. Washington will travel 16,573 miles over the course of the 2024 conference season. Both Los Angeles schools will each travel over 15,000 miles for their inaugural seasons. Part of the reason for the long travels is because the Big Ten eliminated the East and West divisions starting in 2024. Instead of the best teams from each division facing each other in the conference championship game, the top two schools with the best conference records at the end of the season will play each other.
