Oregon football's Teitum Tuioti is carving his own path as a freshman Coaching in the shadow of Autzen stadium, Sheldon’s Josh Line has mentored his fair share of soon-to-be Oregon football players. From Mark Helfrich and Willie Taggart to Mario Cristobal and now, Dan Lanning, he’s seen the different ways in which Oregon’s head coaches conduct a recruitment process of local kids with predisposed aspirations of playing for the Ducks. “I had some experiences with Oregon, where the previous staff didn't really recruit kids they thought were for sure coming there,” Line said. He was referring in particular to former players that were Oregon’s coach’s kids, such as Michael Johnson Jr. and Willie Taggart Jr. — who went on to play at Florida Atlantic and Western Kentucky, respectively. That, however, wasn’t his assessment of how the Ducks courted Teitum Tuioti. Despite being the son of current defensive line coach Tony Tuioti, Lanning treated him like a coveted asset. So, when it came time for Teitum Tuioti to choose where he’d play — he had Oregon State and Nebraska as options as well — Oregon’s sell-job had done enough. Five weeks into Tuioti’s freshman season, the 3-star recruit has usurped significant contributors from last year’s team displaying why Lanning prioritized his recruitment, rather than just assuming he’d attend the school his dad worked at... In a recent report by Pac-12 insider John Canzano, it was revealed just who signed what was the conference's death wish. For the past year up until about a month ago, the conference was searching for a media rights deal with the hopes of expanding to make up for the losses of USC and UCLA. However, when ESPN offered the conference $ 30 million per school there was a feeling around the conference that they could do better, a lot better. The conference led by George Kliavkoff countered with $50 million, which ESPN instantly rejected and also ended negotiations over. The number came from a university president, whom Canzano reported as Utah president Taylor Randall. An offer that was supposed to possibly be a negotiating point but ended up being a ‘take your ball and go home’ scenario," according to one Pac-12 president. Now, the conference is on a fast track to extinction with just Oregon State and Washington State remaining as the lone programs, as everyone else has fled to the Big Ten, Big 12, or ACC. Canzano broke down the main mistakes made, which were the consulting firm the Pac-12 used that had little experience negotiating media rights at the college level, Kliavkoff lack of leadership, not taking the USC and UCLA departures seriously enough, and while it wasn't mentioned it is also worth noting their cold shoulder treatment to the Big 12 didn't help. The conference will now either cease to exist or be some sort of hybrid with the Mountain West... To view article, click here.

How Washington's Injuries Will Impact the Game
Pennsylvania Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Multiple Washington Starters Are On Track To Return Against Oregon The Huskies have multiple players trying to get back for the highly-anticipated matchup. The Washington Huskies suffered some tough injury luck early on. Before the team could even take their first snap against Boise State, coach Kalen DeBoer announced that running back Cameron Davis and offensive lineman Gaard Memmelaar would miss the season because of injuries suffered in camp. Next cornerback Davon Banks sustained a season-ending injury while safety Asa Turner, left guard Julius Buelow, wide receiver Jalen McMillan and defensive tackle Tuli Letuligasenoa have all been forced to miss time this year. But Washington's bye week came at the perfect time for its injured players and should help the seventh-ranked Huskies be at their best before their matchup with the No. 8 Ducks. DeBoer said McMillan was "maybe another day or two" away from being able to play against Arizona, but the coach's comments after the game indicated he wasn't 100 percent ready to come back. Oregon fans react to news that ESPN's College GameDay will go to Seattle for Duck game It was the expected destination, but on Saturday morning, it was officially announced that ESPN’s College GameDay would head to Seattle next week to catch the top-10 matchup between the No. 8 Oregon Ducks and No. 7 Washington Huskies. When you consider the ramifications that this game holds, and the two teams who will be on display, it was an easy decision for ESPN to make. The winner of this game will undoubtedly have the inside track to a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game, and likely be in pole position to grab a spot in the College Football Playoff as well. With a pair of Heisman-contending quarterbacks in Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix, there will be no shortage of things to talk about for the GameDay crew up in Seattle. Unsurprisingly, the news on Saturday sparked some reaction from both Oregon and Washington fans on social media. Here are some of the best from the morning... Oregon Football 2023 Midseason Statistical Review This article examines Oregon’s statistical performance from charting through its first five weeks of the season, using data only prior to garbage time in the four games against FBS opponents per customary practice. The Ducks have played 197 of such snaps on offense and 160 on defense, due to some early blowouts. In a typical competitive game against an FBS opponent I get around 65 snaps on each side of that ball, meaning that this sample is about 60 offensive and 100 defensive snaps smaller than would be expected against a full slate of competitive opponents. The sample is large enough for good confidence intervals on some high level conclusions, unit-level grades, and run-pass splits, but not enough for a more granular examination of questions like down & distance situational performance, formational tendencies, or individual player grades... Sports Desk: Our thoughts and takes on the Oregon Ducks The No. 8 Oregon Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Pac-12) are off to one of their better starts in recent memory. So far, it looks like head coach Dan Lanning has put Eugene back on the map and turned Oregon into a program built for success. Lanning’s Ducks have put a couple of impressive wins under their belt: Oregon snuck out a win in Week 2 against Texas Tech and dominated No. 19 Colorado in Week 4. The Ducks’ resume also boasts three other blowout wins over Portland State, Hawaii and Stanford. There’s not a lot that’s gone wrong for Oregon through its first five games. The offense looks great, the defense appears to improve each week and the special teams have been nails as the Ducks enter their bye week. As a sports desk, we are privileged with the opportunity to cover this team. We all have different takes and opinions on Lanning’s squad, and it’s important to take time to reflect every so often. Here’s what our team has liked about Oregon as the gauntlet of its season looms. To access the article in the Dailey Emerald, click here. -
NCAA 'Targets' Deion Sanders With Its Proposed Rule Change Earlier this week the NCAA announced a notable change to recruiting visits. The oversight committee issued a memo on Wednesday looking to ban photoshoots for recruits on unofficial visits. In the wake of the decision some think Deion Sanders and Colorado finally forced the NCAA's hand. Josh Tolle of "Buffs Beat" thinks the NCAA is making a "direct jab" at Deion: This is a direct jab at Deion Sanders, who used photoshoot opportunities with recruits at Colorado to promote Louis Vuitton and Lamborghini sports cars. The snapshots were widely popular and became a viral sensation among recruits. Everyone wanted to come to Boulder to meet Coach Prime and be part of the phenomenon. It can still happen, but only on official visits. To access the article, click here.

NCAA makes a ridiculous change to unofficial visits The NCAA has a host of major issues that it really could be tackling right now. But instead, on Wednesday it decided that photoshoots can’t be held during unofficial visits for football players. That’s right…photoshoots. In legislation that hasn’t yet been passed, the NCAA is looking to eliminate all photo shoots for prospective football players that don’t take place on an official visit. Official visit photo shoots will remain under the proposed legislation. But kiss the unofficial visit photoshoot bye-bye. Why does this matter? One of the West Coast's top juniors, top-40 ranked Jovani Ruff talks visits and is eyeing a spring decision When it comes to the class of 2025, Jovani Ruff isn't just one of the best players on the West Coast. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard at Long Beach (Calif.) Poly is one of the top two guards in the country. Ruff has size, can create off the dribble and gets hot from deep. One of the hallmarks of his game, though, is the confidence with which he plays. A confidence that a family member helped to instill in him by watching film of some of the NBA's best scorers. “It comes from grandfather really. When I was young, I didn’t really have a lot of confidence but we watched a lot of film of Devin Booker and Bradley Beal and seeing how they get to, I decided I want to be there one day too so I had to turn it up.” Oregon: “I like their playing style.
