  1. Oregon vs. Hawaii: 'Tale of the Tape' for No. 13 Ducks vs. Rainbow Warriors It may be hard for Oregon Duck fans to gauge the level of competition that they should expect going into Week 3 against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. While the matchup at home likely won’t be as tough as last week vs. Texas Tech down in Lubbock, it also shouldn’t be as easy as Week 1 against the Portland State Vikings. So how much of a test will Hawaii pose for the Ducks? That’s where we want the numbers to come in. While the Rainbow Warriors may not have a rushing attack that strikes fear in anyone, their passing game can put up numbers in a hurry. Does their defense do anything to give Oregon cause for concern? Will the Ducks secondary be able to hold up in this game and force a blowout? Those are all questions we are yet to find answers to. Let’s take a look at the tale of the tape and see what that tells us... Oregon vs. Hawaii: ‘Tale of the Tape’ for Ducks vs. Rainbow Warriors DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Hawaii has a prolific passing offense ranked No. 14 in the nation. Can Oregon’s secondary step up? Let’s see what the numbers say.
  2. Ranking Oregon's top 10 players in win vs. Texas Tech according to PFF grades As we start to transition through the week and look ahead to the Oregon Ducks’ week 3 game against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, we wanted to take one last look back at the Week 2 game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders and dive into the grades given by Pro Football Focus. While we spend a lot of time looking at the box score and various different stat sheets to try and piece together the story of the game, one of the best tools at our disposal is the grades given by Pro Football Focus, where they break down every snap of the contest and given numerical scores for overall performance for each player. So after the win over Texas Tech, which Oregon players graded out the best according to PFF? Here’s a look... 4. The A-Bomb: Nix’s protection against Red Raiders was downright “offensive” The young O-Line got a dose of reality against Texas Tech’s pressure. A well-known fact among Duck fans, or any college football fans in general, is that Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is fast. Maybe not quite Dennis Dixon or Marcus Mariota fast, but the boy’s got wheels. And thank Good Gosh for that! Oregon came from behind on another clutch performance by Bo to win 38-30 in a battle in Lubbock. Nix was 32-of-44 for 359 yards and two touchdowns, earning himself Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. Further impressive stats by the underrated and underappreciated (at least in the national media) signal caller. But what won’t necessarily show up on the stat sheet was the number of times Nix was flushed from the pocket, the number of times he had a man on his heels, the number of times he had to use that impressive speed of his for an escape act. Namely, Bo was running for his life Saturday night down in the Lone Star State. 6. Five-Star DL Aydin Breland cuts his list to three Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland cut his list of schools to a final three. Breland named Georgia, Miami and Oregon as his finalists. He said he still doesn’t have a time frame in mind for when he plans to make his decision but could have a better idea following his upcoming visit to Georgia this weekend. Breland officially visited all three schools back in June and has also unofficially visited each program over the last year. He’ll be in Athens this weekend when the Dawgs take on South Carolina. He has an athletic 6-foot-5, 295-pound frame and physically, looks like a college player right now. He can really run for a player his size, is a physical kid with a nice edge in his game and his upside is off the charts... 8. Evan Williams on facing Hawaii's passing attack: 'I love stepping up to the plate during these types of games' The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors seem to have a high-usage, gunslinging quarterback every few years. Whether it was Timmy Chang or the late Colt Brennan during the early 200s or Cole McDonald as a more recent name, throwing the ball up, down, and around the field has never been a problem for the team from the Island. In 2023, with Chang as the head coach, quarterback Brayden Schager is the name to watch. Schager has 10 touchdowns through three games and also five interceptions. He's thrown for nearly 1,000 yards this season but also leads the nation in sacks allowed with 14. The Rainbow Warriors' offense is exactly what you'd expect it to be: All or nothing. 12. Hawaii hoping to contain Bo Nix and No. 13 Oregon Hawaii (1-2) answered a pair of losses to open the season with a 31-20 victory over FCS foe Albany last Saturday. That said, Rainbow Warriors coach Timmy Chang knows his team has its work cut out against Oregon. “They’re a good opponent. They are gonna compete for a Pac-12 championship, and in their minds they are a CFP team — it’s gonna be tough. It’s a tough game,” Chang said. “So we have to get healed up, we have to get ready to go. We have to have a tough mindset. It’s a good, good experience and mindset and mentality to get ready for this (weekend).” Hawaii hoping to contain Bo Nix and No. 13 Oregon SPORTSNAUT.COM Bo Nix aims to continue his strong start to the season on Saturday when No. 13 Oregon hosts Hawaii in Eugene, Ore.
  13. Oregon Ducks must get run game going against Hawaii Oregon Football is 2-0 after a gritty win at Texas Tech and welcome a 1-2 Hawaii team averaging just under 30 points per game this season. The Ducks are putting up an average of 60 per contest after dropping 81 points in Portland State two weeks ago, The run game will look to get back on track against Hawaii after being handled by a stout defensive front at Texas Tech. They were able to manage just over 100 yards on the ground in that game. Oregon likes to move the ball by playing shifty on the ground, not just running north to south. The Ducks could not find any wiggle room. I expect a rebound of sorts against the Rainbow Warriors. Oregon has one of the deepest running back rosters in the country. They will find a way... 14. Hawaii's offensive attack will Oregon's secondary to the test in Week 3 Hawaii will enter Autzen Stadium Saturday night as five-touchdown underdogs against the No. 13 Oregon Ducks. If the Rainbow Warriors do lose by 35, it likely won’t be because they failed to put points on the scoreboard. Head coach Timmy Chang, once a Heisman candidate when he played for Hawaii, installed an offense where options 1 through 3 are to throw the ball; option 4 might be to throw the ball deep. Fortunately for Hawaii, they have a quarterback seemingly up to the task in Brayden Schager. The junior from Dallas, Texas is your prototypical pro-style quarterback at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds. He is averaging 325 yards through the air and has 10 touchdowns. But Schager has been known for throwing a few interceptions. He has five so far in just three games. Hawaii’s offensive attack will test Oregon’s secondary all day long DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Hawaii is going to pass the ball early and often. Oregon’s secondary is going to need to be up to the task on Saturday.

  16. Josh Conerly Jr. takes responsibility for false starts at Texas Tech Sophomore left tackle Josh Conerly Jr. didn't push the blame anywhere following a mistake-plagued starting road debut in Lubbock last weekend. Half of Oregon's 14 penalties over the weekend came prior to offensive snaps, and nearly half of those infractions came when left tackle Josh Conerly Jr. moved prematurely. Oregon coach Dan Lanning pointed to how Texas Tech shifted it's defensive line just before the snap — a tactic referred to as "stemming" — along with their cadence as an explanation for the issues. Conerly himself wasn't willing to take the out his coach created for him. Speaking with media for the first time on Tuesday following the game, the sophomore cited nerves as the primary cause for his three false start flags. "That was all me and just my anxiety being too high. I just really have to take a deep breath and calm down," he explained. "That's something I just have to clean up by myself. That's not on anybody else but me. I just really have to calm down and play my game and not think too much." All three of the penalties came over the first 32 minutes of play. Once he recognized the impact his mistakes were having on the offense, he settled in. 17. Oregon's defensive line focused on improving against quarterback keepers in matchup against Hawaii After Texas Tech QB Tyler Shough ran for over 100 yards, Oregon's defensive line is focused on improving that area of their game. A year after finishing 32nd in the country in team rush defense, the Ducks were expected to improve on that mark in the 2023 season. In game one, the Ducks allowed 148 yards on the ground to Portland State in an 81-7 win. Against Texas Tech on the road, the Red Raiders' rush attack essentially began and ended with one player: QB Tyler Shough. Shough attempted 23 of Tech's 32 total carries, accumulating 145 yards on the ground without sacks counting against his total yardage. With sacks counting towards his total yards accumulated, Shough finished with 101 yards. The Red Raiders, overall, finished with 174 yards on the ground, averaging over five yards per carry. Oregon's defense retooled on the defensive line this offseason, adding in multiple highly rated recruits and talents from the transfer portal while returning all but one starter. For the unit, through two games, it's clear attacking the ground game is a top priority. 18. Oregon football kicker Camden Lewis recognized by Lou Groza Award Oregon kicker Camden Lewis earned national recognition for his play in last week’s win at Texas Tech. Lewis was one of three kickers selected as the Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week for Week 2. UCF’s Colton Boomer and Ole Miss’ Caden Davis were the other two kickers recognized. Lewis went three for three with two go-ahead field goals in the fourth quarter of Oregon’s 38-30 comeback win. He made a 23-yarder to put Oregon ahead 28-27 and a 34-yard kick with 1:10 to go that made it 31-30. The fifth-year senior also had a 28-yarder earlier in the game, 3 PATs and handled kickoffs for the No. 13 Ducks. St. Frances Academy Panthers are playing the toughest schedule in the country. When discussing 2024 Oregon Ducks quarterback commit Michael Van Buren, there's one thing we can say with absolute 100% confidence. By the time he gets to Eugene in January to enroll with the Ducks, he's going to be battle-tested. Van Buren and the St. Frances Academy Panthers may still be searching for their first win this season entering week 5, but it's certainly not for a lack of talent. I’ve been nervous about that one ever since it was scheduled, and after comparing its feel to WSU 2022 all week, it’s wild how similar the two games ended up. 24. Dan Lanning, Oregon focusing on penalties after Texas Tech win Dan Lanning said the flight home from Lubbock, Texas, over the weekend was a mixed-emotion flight. Lanning was proud of the poise his Oregon Ducks showed to erase a nine-point second-half deficit in what proved to be a very challenging environment. But they also had mistakes in the game that needed to be acknowledged. “We always talk about Monday’s our day to go to the doctor,” he said when he met with reporters Monday evening. “We were able to go to the doctor and acknowledge a lot of things.” Chief among them: penalties...
