Oregon's Dan Lanning has a coaching staff that can win the Big 10 | Oregon Ducks Podcast Oregon Football has been a nationally relevant and winning program for quite a while now, and that has often led to staff turnover as assistants are hired away to bigger jobs. Oregon returning its most important coaches on staff next year help make them a Big 10 contender. On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin talks about the Oregon coaching staff going into next season. He also discusses Oregon's latest commitment from WR Gatlin Bair and answers a listener question about NIL collectives.

Ducks among top-30 teams with most returning production for 2024 college football season Despite losing multiple starters on offense, the Ducks are still among the best teams in the nation for returning production. As the first transfer portal window has essentially come to a close, as players can now only commit to programs, it's now much easier to figure out what the rosters will look like going into the 2024 season. Still, the transfer portal window in the spring will have something to say in a few months, but teams are currently rooted with a majority of their roster. Because of that, Bill Connelly of ESPN released the top returning production in college football from all 134 FBS schools. On the list, teams returned as high as 86-percent (Virginia Tech) and as low as 25-percent (Air Force) of their production. Oregon found itself towards the upper half of its returning production, sitting at No. 28 overall by returning 69 percent of its output from a season ago. According to Connelly's explanation, the Ducks return 68 percent of their offensive production while returning 70 percent of their defensive production. The offensive return rate puts them at No. 45 overall, and the defensive return rate puts them at No. 27 overall. All about the Indiana Hoosiers: Long, candy-striped pants. A chair spinning wildly across hardwood. An ever-growing network of American soccer influence. The resurrection of a forgotten football program. Located in the heart of the midwest, Indiana University is among the three oldest institutions in the Big Ten Conference. Its sports tradition and history runs deep, from legendary men’s basketball coach Bob Knight to — oddly enough — two key figures in the recent history of the Portland Timbers. As the Oregon Ducks prepare for a move to the Big Ten in 2024, The Oregonian/OregonLive is taking a look at all of their newest conference rivals. While Ducks fans might be deeply familiar with fellow Pac-12 departees Washington, USC and UCLA, they have 14 new teams to get to know this year. Next up is the Indiana Hoosiers. The University of Illinois is one of the original seven members of the Big Ten Conference, with an athletic history dating back to the 19th century. While many of its competitors in the conference steadily stacked up trophies over a century-plus, Illinois hasn’t won a team national championship in a major sport since 1951. Ryan Day's recent hire of Bill O'Brien as Ohio State's offensive coordinator might be short-lived, as O'Brien is a leading candidate to become the next Boston College head coach, per FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman. O'Brien, a Boston native, made his name as an assistant in New England, helping Bill Belichick, Tom Brady & Co. to the Super Bowl as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2011 before departing for Penn State. He also had a successful stint in the same role under Nick Saban at Alabama in 2021 and 2022, helping quarterback Bryce Young become a Heisman Trophy winner and the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Five-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair explains his commitment to Oregon “I’m super excited about Oregon and what coach (Dan) Lanning is building,” said Bair. “He is one of the most ambitious coach’s I’ve ever been around and they’re on track to compete in the Big Ten and win some titles. Junior (Adams) does a great job with developing receivers and they’re running an offense that any receiver would want to be a part of.” "With Oregon, their offensive play style is something I like to play in," said Bair. "They use speed very well. They had two receivers go over 1,000 yards and they’ll continue to use their receivers. Coach Adams does a phenomenal job with receivers. He coached Cooper Kapp and he recruited all those receivers to Washington and he has a great relationship with Puka Nacua (who he recruited to Washington)." Michael Penix Jr. opts out of Senior Bowl game, per report Michael Penix Jr., Washington’s star quarterback and the 2023 Heisman runner-up, will not participate in Saturday’s Senior Bowl game. After a week of practice in Mobile, Alabama, the former UW passer has decided not to play in the game, according to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. Penix is one of a number of players on the National team who have decided to skip the game, leaving the roster “gutted,” according to Florio. The Senior Bowl’s executive director shared on Saturday morning that a defensive lineman is switching from the American team to the National team for the game because of “roster attrition.” Nagy added it’s the first time in the 75-year history of the all-star showcase that a player has switched teams on game day. According to Florio, Oregon’s Bo Nix will also only play a couple of series. That will leave Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman to handle the bulk of the snaps for the team.
